My amazing grandma helped me add shiny rainbow fabric to an old sports bra to compete my “skeleton-in-a-running-costume” costume for the Coco 5K. I’m so happy with how it turned out!!

Hi, I am jumping in the costume wagon for Spring time Surprise. Two runners x three races = six costumes in about six months!

Next steps:
- Measure fabric maximum press temperature.
- Test non stretch vinyl on it.
- Learn how to use a serger.
- Attempt flat lock stitching.
- Find inkjet transfer paper for dark stretch fabric.

The good news is that the library a km away from home has vinyl, cutter, heat transfer press and serger!

Updates
WD 5k-(mama Imelda inspired) need base layer tank for top… May start skirt tomorrow
WD 10k (Moana inspired ).. need materials to decorate shirt (this is my easy one rewearing skirt from previous race(s) ordered headband online just need to decorate solid orange tank
Spring 5k (joy inspired) have dress will just need to hand paint and possibly get wig/blue extensions to braid into hair
Spring 10k .. tbd May look now for reasonably priced Medusa headpiece though as I’m heavily leaning toward Celia or a PNK sorority girl
Spring 10M tbd May just do an incredibles shirt with black leggings

I just ordered our coordinating Ralph family costumes for the 4 of us from Etsy this morning. I'll pimp them up with LEDs afterwards, cause my kids will never forgive me if they see G with her gorgeous Ms Marvel costume and they don't have any lights on theirs.

Lots of easy options at Adafruit. The EL wire is pretty easy to work with, and the battery pack is relatively light weight with a clip.

I'm looking at Etsy for some themed skater dresses. Does anyone have good experience with a particular shop specifically for dresses? Do any shops make dresses from wicking materials?

I usually just do sparkle skirts with shorts underneath and a themed shirt, but looking at last year's pics I hate how short that type of combo makes my legs look. So I'm thinking a dress might give me a longer look.

I've ordered shirts from Kawaii Pizza Apparel before, and it's all the same sublimation printing process as on the dresses. They work great for races. That printing process requires a fabric high in polyester, so they tend to be pretty breathable.

Agreed for KawaiianPizzaApparel. I also use SundayMorningActive, RunTheImpossible and DreamItByYLW, and I've had all positive experiences.

If this can help: I ordered a Merida dress from the DreamIt shop. I'm 5'4'' and usually wear between sizes 8 and 10, or size L for my running tights. I reached out to the owner for her recommendation on sizing. I ordered a M based on her suggestion: "They run a little big so don’t order up", but I regretted it a bit. I should have gone for L.

I didn't need to see this! They are the perfect figment color. I've never worn adidas before though, so maybe that will keep me from making the plunge.

I do have a pair of Ultraboost and don't hate them. They aren't great (for me) for longer distances but I'm tempted to buy these and use them at the parks and/or for a shorter distance Figment costume at some point.

I've been super happy running in skater dresses from HappinessIsAddictive and KawaiianPizzaApparel. I've been happy with tanks/shirts from DreamItbyYLW. I was super disappointed in a dress from
DreamWardrobeShop - the print was incredibly pixelated. It looked so cheap.

The theme for Springtime Surprise 5k is Cars. Since the beginning DD wants to be Lightning McQueen because he is fast (like her ). I kept searching for purple Cars to use one of my old tops but it was not clicking. I decided to go in my drawer to see if I had something else I could sacrifice and found the perfect brown top… So I’ll be her Mater. After all, I keep towing her to all these races and am her biggest fan!
