The Updated and All-Inclusive Costume Thread

I wondered if he angered some of the RD management this past year when he impromptu went on stage and "commandeered" the DJ's spot.

I forgot about that! And rumor has it he's a former CM who may have actually been a "friend" of the "real" Jack. Sure, it was fun when he showed up for a race and ran in character, and it was hilarious when he did it for three races in a row, but then he showed up for EVERY race and EVERY race weekend and the act got old for Disney real fast.

I did not know about this! Does anyone have a pic?
I wish that I had the presence of mind to take a picture. It was a really impressive costume eclipsed only by the fact that she "ran" 10 miles schlepping the damn thing the entire time.

Confused at the guidelines when they say layered costumes aren’t allowed yet a couple lines later it states capes “are” allowed as long as they aren’t longer than the waist

The part that confuses me is when it says layered costumes aren't allowed. So what happens when its 40 degrees in the morning and people are layered up in the starting corrals? Are they not going to allow people to wear hoodies and sweats over their running attire?

Or me who planned to layer shorts and a wicking top under a dress than again like I’ve mentioned im second guessing even wearing the queen of hearts costume I have based on some of the wording basically being verbatim from the park guidelines saying adults can only dress inspired by their favorite characters and NOT in actual costumes

I've been slowly piecing together my costumes for January but now am wondering if I should just stop and wait for reports on how this plays out at Wine & Dine. I didn't want to be scrambling at the last minute on costumes but I also don't want to put a ton of work into stuff I might not be allowed to wear.

I'm thinking that "layers" isn't referring to layering a dress or skirt over shorts, or a sweat shirt over your running clothes to state. IMHO their somewhat ambiguous wording was talking about the very loose "fashion" styles (and I use the term loosely, no pun intended) of burlap bags and rags of the Star Wars universe where objects can be more readily concealed within all the folds and layers.
As for a Queen of Hearts outfit, they will probably frown on a full-skirted version that closely emulates the movie version. OTOH, the storebought versions tend to be a single layer of material with all the detail and layers simply printed on. Wearing one of those over running gear will probably pass scrutiny, especially if it is hemmed up closer to knee length for running.
My 2-cents worth.
And my guess is that my somewhat boring costumes will not cause a blip on their radar. Mixed blessing there.

The skirt is a tutu which explicitly was stated as good so no length issues

It is still very early to think about Springtime Surprise 2024 costumes but since this is my next runDisney event, I started.

Last year, it was much easier to know what we wanted:
Car’s 5k: Lighting McQueen and Tow Matter
Monster’s 10k: Buzz Light Year and MU Cheerleaders
Toy Story 10M: Jessie and Woody
We had no reference to Nemo Challenge, nor did we see much of it during the race.

By mid-September, the 4-way stretch fabric had been ordered.

This time, I will be running solo.

Neverland 5k: The obvious or simplest choice is Tinkerbell. I have fabric leftover from Buzz and can do a simple dress from it. I just don’t feel much like a Tinkerbell. Also, I would have to discard the wings at the end of the run because I usually go to the park without the detour to my resort (I change and wash-up). Last year, I kept wearing my Tow Matter Minnie Ears and that was cool, the rest of the day stayed on theme.

Adventure is out there (Up) 10k: I really want to be Kevin, that one is clearer in my mind. A sky with balloons tempts me too. I might just buy Minnie Ears to wear later.
The tutu could go in my bag.

Hakuna Matata (Lion King) 10M: I am not planning to be one of the character. I am thinking more of a Festival of the Lion King type of vibe. I have a giraffe pattern dress but it is too long and I don’t want to cut it. With the heat and thus the no sleeves, I might look more like a Rio de Janeiro festival than what I am trying to achieve. Still thinking.

Stitch’s Ohana Challenge: I could reuse part of my Lilo and Stitch 2020 costume. Maybe the red top for the 10M, not sure.

Anyone struggling with ideas these days? Any suggestions on what I presented?

I love the festival of the lion king idea! No tips on pulling it off but I’ve always enjoyed those costumes.

UP: i'm like 90% sure they won't let you run with physical balloon, so something to consider there

Lion King: RunSewSweet on etsy did a broadway lion king costume (with a headband/mask, but not over your face, if that makes sense) that you could probably get some inspo from.

I’m probably just going with Tinkerbell for the 5K and reusing my W&D ’22 Lilo costume, but updating Stitch’s look to Elvis, just for fun, for the 10K (not a huge Up fan). For the 10 Miler, I’ve got a couple dresses I’m looking at from the same company I got my Lilo, Soul, and Inside Out dresses from, but I haven’t made a choice yet. It seems like there’s new patterns every time I look, and I have lots of time to decide.

For Springtime I’m leaning into hook or Smee for 5k for Gaspirilla rewear ability
10k idk if I’ll go with the up theme and reuse my brown skort and do a wilderness explorer look or do something different

At this point I've thought more about my SS costumes than MW and DL weekends -- d'oh! I dressed as Tink for the 2017 Tink Half, and will resurrect that. I've had my eye on a Kevin costume on etsy for a while now for the 10K. And for the 10 Miler I'm definitely doing Elvis Stitch! I can recycle about half my costume from HM Bride last year and add a fun collar/short cape, sparkly overskirt and stitch ears.

Sounds like I'll have lots of twins for the 5K and 10 Miler!

I like the Lion King festival idea.

And showing up in the corral and on the course with balloons? I think you might cause a bit of a panic....

Sometimes writing it down accelerates the process. Since I wrote yesterday, I
- talked with DD about my ideas,
- booked my flights,
- confirmed that I am more of a Captain Hook than a Tinkerbell at heart,
- ordered rolls of tulle to make a Kevin tutu.

I never had the intention of running with balloons.

I am now looking forward to creating these costumes! Thanks 😊
