The Updated and All-Inclusive Costume Thread

On a scale 1 to 10, how bad can a velvet tank top be? Asking for Hook.
5? On the one hand, ugh velvet in FL in April. But, on the other hand, it’s only for a 5K, and you can survive pretty much anything for the length of a 5K.
I don't know, sweaty velvet does not sound fun in any season...🤣

It is still very early to think about Springtime Surprise 2024 costumes but since this is my next runDisney event, I started.

Last year, it was much easier to know what we wanted:
Car’s 5k: Lighting McQueen and Tow Matter
Monster’s 10k: Buzz Light Year and MU Cheerleaders
Toy Story 10M: Jessie and Woody
We had no reference to Nemo Challenge, nor did we see much of it during the race.

By mid-September, the 4-way stretch fabric had been ordered.

This time, I will be running solo.

Neverland 5k: The obvious or simplest choice is Tinkerbell. I have fabric leftover from Buzz and can do a simple dress from it. I just don’t feel much like a Tinkerbell. Also, I would have to discard the wings at the end of the run because I usually go to the park without the detour to my resort (I change and wash-up). Last year, I kept wearing my Tow Matter Minnie Ears and that was cool, the rest of the day stayed on theme.

Adventure is out there (Up) 10k: I really want to be Kevin, that one is clearer in my mind. A sky with balloons tempts me too. I might just buy Minnie Ears to wear later.
The tutu could go in my bag.

Hakuna Matata (Lion King) 10M: I am not planning to be one of the character. I am thinking more of a Festival of the Lion King type of vibe. I have a giraffe pattern dress but it is too long and I don’t want to cut it. With the heat and thus the no sleeves, I might look more like a Rio de Janeiro festival than what I am trying to achieve. Still thinking.

Stitch’s Ohana Challenge: I could reuse part of my Lilo and Stitch 2020 costume. Maybe the red top for the 10M, not sure.

Anyone struggling with ideas these days? Any suggestions on what I presented?
I did a Lion King outfit for the half this January using this fabric: https://scarlettcrusadedesigns.com/characters/p/circle-of-life-border?rq=circle of life

I'm re-using a costume from 2 years ago, so I'm trying to "plus" it up a bit with more embellishments/accessories. I know someone has run with one of those magnetic shoulder plushies, but I can't remember who. @Naomeri maybe? I feel like the magnet isn't going to be strong enough, and if there are some already-known ways to keep it firmly in place I'd rather not try to reinvent the wheel. It's "just" for the 10k, which we will be taking easy.

I ran with tsum tsum plush stuffies on my shoulder in 2022. I used a name badge magnet attached to the tsum tsum and through my shirt on the other side. I plan to do the same with our horns for Mike and Marty Wazowski. I can get you the brand when I get back home if you’d like. Steph got them at a vendor trade show I believe. They held really tight with zero concern of falling off up through a sub 8 sprint finish.

I'm contemplating switching my DL and Princess 10K costumes. Initially the DL 10K was going to be the only Disney race I was going to do next year, and then two of my cousins talked me into signing up for Princess. All three of us are dressing as the three good fairies for the 5k. I was planning on dressing as Maleficent at DL since DL has Sleeping Beauty's Castle, and now I'm thinking I could do Maleficent for the Princess 10K to keep that theme going. I'd switch my Queen of Hearts costume to DL, and if any Alice characters are by the dark ride there, it's a perfect photo stop.

I used safety pins on the rats for my Ratatouille/Bruno mashup—pins through their feet and one through their tails (or maybe through their behind) They bounced a bit, but never fell or got annoying during the 10K. I did have to adjust and re-pin them through the poncho and into the tank below early in the race because it was dragging the poncho backward. I didn’t bother trying to use Remy’s magnet (Emile wasn’t a shoulder plush)

I sowed mine to the T-shirt. For DD, it was moving too much, so I sowed her sport bra to the T-shirt and the plush to both.

Anyone have recommendations for someone on Etsy (or whatever site of choice) could make a custom run shirt? Mainly just looking for someone to put text on a shirt. I'll take vendor options as well if someone's had good experience with them. Thanks so much!

Unless you’re looking for screenprint or sublimation, if any of your local friends have a cricut (or similar) they could do it. (This is what I did last year.)

Also many libraries now have makerspaces with cricuts etc
