The Unstoppable Force Meets the Immovable Object: A Trip Report - UPDATED 7/25/11

Gosh, all this place needs is an alcove...
Trust me, there's an alcove.

It was another one of "those" moments.
I'll assume the moment was opening the door and not gazing at your friend LM. If it's the former, then yes, that is a great Disney moment. I don't gamble, but I imagine it's what it's like to play a slot machine.

Lola (my car) wears it on her bum proudly. She has a pink ribbon one on the other side that says, "Save the Tatas".
Nothing. No part of this is surprising. Not that you named your car. Not that you put stickers on the bumper. And not that you have a "save the tatas" sticker. Indeed, I could have written those sentences for you.

I used to be anti-AKL but then we stayed there for a night last year and the joint grew on us. It really is a pretty cool place.

:moped:

I got a little behind on your TR, but I'm all caught up! Ugh, I can't believe that DVC CM, don't these people know they're supposed to be magical at all times? :rotfl: Assuming someone is trying to get themselves a free upgrade to a savannah room=not magical! (Ok, I know, the CM's are people too and are entitled to a bad day, or they're just doing their jobs, but I have unrealistic expectations of them, I guess!) :)

AKL is SO gorgeous! :lovestruc I was supposed to stay there on my October trip this year, but I switched to WL instead. I hope to stay there someday, the rooms are so beautiful!

I've seen some of the Princess 1/2 merchandise on a few other TR's and it is SO cute. It seriously makes me want to do the 1/2 just so I can buy some of it!

That Pina Colava looks amazing, I can't believe I haven't tried one yet!

Okay, seriously?

I'm going a little out of order here, because you know how much I love you, but I just have to :rotfl2:

You are low maintenance but I see pratically NOTHING on LM's side of the vanity.

And the six pairs of shoes? Oh, honey. We need to have a talk about what "low" maintenance really is.

I keed, I keed. Having traveled with you, I would say you're fairly low maintenance, with a slice of, yes, I'm girly with the shoes, what? ;)

Oh Tink.......Tink, Tink, Tink. How could I not comment on this TR? I wasn't going to, y'know. I was simply going to lurk. Peek in from Lurkdom. Remain invisible. Cheshire Cat and all that. Cuz, officially, I'm on a DIS-hiatus.

Impossible. Especially since you've nearly pushed me to happy tears with your lovely descriptions of me and our meet! Never mind that I'm in need of a Happy Place in my general life right now. In a BIG way.....

But this isn't about me. Well, yes it is, some of it, but I digress.;)

This is me:
stitch.jpg

I had something on my mind.

I "heart" this picture!!! Adorable.
This is me at work:
work.jpg

A little inside joke for some of you. ;)

::snortlaugh:: ......

Only...

We weren't spending 8 nights together. Though our trip did run 2/25/11-3/5/11, due to his work schedule, BF was only to join me for 2/27/11-3/5/11. But I wasn't alone those first two nights, oh no. I was joined by my very good DIS friend LegoMom (LM).

(I don't know how she feels about putting her pic on the boards, so I will refrain, though that is a pity. She is one hot mama!)
Ok, we need to stop RIGHT. HERE. This line is CLEARLY referring to another LM. And not this one. Here. Me. But I don't mind my picture being plastered across the DIS. I've done it plenty in the past on my own TR's, but I do thank you for asking.:flower3:

LM is the kind of friend EVERYONE should have in their life. She's the most amazing balance of love and fun and peace and mischief wrapped up in a sweet candy coating.
How much do I love this?!

akl4.jpg

And how much do I love THIS!! ::sigh:: I still maintain that this was my once-in-a-lifetime chance to stay Deluxe. And I loved every minute of it.:cloud9:

I settled into my seat at Gate 21 and traded some texts with LM. We'd both made it to the airport safely and were waiting to board. Our flights would put us in around roughly the same time, LM getting in a little bit earlier, and the plan was for to meet in the main atrium. We confirmed that all flights were scheduled on time and then traded texts like little school girls about how excited we were.

Dude I was SO stinkin' excited. Do you ever wonder what other people are thinking when they see you smiling like that while texting?!

So there I was walking, nay STRIDING, with purpose towards LM. We'd immediately spotted each other as I stepped into the atrium. Big, BIG hugs were had.

I think, on every trip, there is a moment for me where everything falls into place. That's not to say that I somehow know everything will work out exactly as I have planned or that there won't be any sore moments or disappointments. Just that there exists a moment of perfection. When I realize that I am on vacation. I am on my way to Disney! And no matter WHAT happens, magical or otherwise, it is HERE. It is happening.

Hugging LM was that moment. :goodvibes

Aaaaaannnnd, crying again. Yep.

We traded flight reactions - both relatively smooth but with a rather bumpy arrival - and she VERY happily informed me that she'd been recaffeinated almost immediately upon arrival. Poor LM needs her coffee in the mornings. Especially the mornings when her alarm is ringing around 3a.m.
You have NO idea. And the lack of coffee that morning had EVERY thing to do with being the not-so-proud owner of The World's Smallest Bladder and not being willing to use the broom closet/lav on a plane. Starbucks never tasted so good.

The whole exchange probably only took about 10 minutes, but I felt like I'd left LM guarding the luggage for days. On our way to our room I explained what happened and how Mr. DVC Nastypants was harrassing our CM, but that I'd be moving rooms on our departure day. We agreed we didn't care much right now where the room was located because we were saying DeeeLUXE, baybee!
If it was a long wait, I didn't notice. I was too busy wiping the drool off my chin from gazing all over the AKL lobby in total, unadulterated AWE. And, I was looking for Hidden Mickeys. I also enjoyed being "Mr. Tinkerbellarella" for a couple of days.:rotfl2:

Well how does this help me?

I don't know what LM looks like, wouldn't know her if she walked into my office and threw a box of Swiss Cake Rolls at my head. Plus, I have no clue whether she'll be in Disney when the ZZUBs return. So how on earth can I have "that" moment now?!!

Well then I guess we're even, since I don't know what you look like either, save for a hairy leg or two (is that you on the bridge in "Pirates"?), and if someone came to your office and threw a box of Swiss Cake Rolls at your head, it would most certainly NOT be me, as that would be a sinful waste of chocolate cake goodness. I would probably toss a box of Lemon Zingers at you. No loss.

But you KNOW who Mr. DVC Nastypants is related to, don't you?

:moped:

Y'know, I have been on the lookout for Susie Helpershoes since about, oh, I dunno, '96 or thereabouts. She gets around, I'll tell ya.

I have to say now that I have only one complaint about the Race transportation, which I will share when it comes up on Day 2.

I don't know if the appropriate smilie is :headache: or :scared1:. Mebbe both.....

When we'd had our fill, which was pretty quickly, we decided to head back to the resort. It was a quick trip and we both agreed that we wanted to check out the savannahs, the Mara, the pool area and, let's be honest, the pool bar before our dinner ADR.

It was absolutely beautiful out and the resort was buzzing with activity. As we walked around the pool, which is surrounded on the outer half by savannah, I immediately fell in love. While, overall, after the trip I felt satisfied with the resort but wouldn't call it my favorite, I did love this area. Everything works into and with the landscape. The pool is pretty big and looked rather fun. The jacuzzis are set into areas with tall, mature bamboo, making them feel very private.

DSCN4759.jpg

Looking back towards Jambo House

After making our rounds of the area, we sidled up to the bar with our order - two Pina Colava's please! With drinks in hand, we settled in at a poolside umbrella table.

For those of you who have yet to experience this adult beverage nominess, it is a Pina Colada with a raspberry swirl mixed in. It's $8.25 and worth every penny, in my opinion. It's not a very strong drink, which is to my liking.

DSCN4757.jpg

Ahhh...there you are, my pretty! Long time, no see. May 2009 was it?

I wish I could share with you the pic I have of LM enjoying her drink. She looks SO happy, SO relaxed. Gorgeous. I, however, consistantly took sips that were too big, resulting in a rather constant "ice cream headache" and I'm sure a wildly unattractive look on my face. :sad2:

We enjoyed our time poolside and discussed our plans for the evening. I was still a little worried about the pace requirement for the 5K and whether I'd be able to keep it (a 16 minute mile) for a full 3.1 miles, so my plan was an early night in. LM was pretty sure she was going to stick to her plan to head over to the Magic Kingdom for some touring. I can't recall how long we sat there but I do remember it was glorious - atmosphere, company, and conversation.

You may. I'm actually a little anxious to see what I look like!! This pool-side imbibement (is that a word?....well it is now)
in your company was, and remains, one of THE Disney-est (is that a word either?!) parts of this trip. I could have done that for all 3 days. Never mind I'd have been 3 sheets.....:lmao:

I believe on the way back up to the room we stopped to check out Zawadi Marketplace. We both saw about 764 things we wanted to purchase but left empty handed for the time being. ....
I think it may have been more like 802, but yes, this is how it happened.

Boma here we come!

Boma, my Boma.....How do I love thee?.....let me count the meats (and desserts):rolleyes1

Having traveled with you, I would say you're fairly low maintenance, with a slice of, yes, I'm girly with the shoes, what? ;)

Hmm.....am I low-maintenance, or painfully plain?.....:confused3

:rotfl:

FLIPPIN' FANTASTIC TR TINK!!!!!! Love ya!!

.

LegoMom, you are blissfully low maintenance.

I am masquerade as low maintenance, but I think I'm a bit leaning towards the mid to high side. :lmao:

That pina colava look delicious!

I love the Hidden Mickey in the carpet at AKL! I don't know if I'd ever notice it/have been able to find it if you hadn't pointed it out. :rotfl: The room(s) look really nice; hopefully, they allowed you to have a good night's rest before race day!:thumbsup2

Trust me, there's an alcove.

Well, as the current Gold Medalist in the Alcove Napping Event, I will trust you.

I don't gamble, but I imagine it's what it's like to play a slot machine.

I have played the slots. It doesn't feel like this...unless you win...and only then, the jackpot. Otherwise it feels more like an ultimate wedgie, not that I'd know what THAT feels like.

Nothing. No part of this is surprising. Not that you named your car. Not that you put stickers on the bumper. And not that you have a "save the tatas" sticker. Indeed, I could have written those sentences for you.

In my defense they aren't stickers, they're magnets. I'm WAY too anal retentive/obsessive compulsive to have something on my car I can't remove on a whim...well, except BF's Firefighter Association sticker. That one's stuck on there.

I used to be anti-AKL but then we stayed there for a night last year and the joint grew on us. It really is a pretty cool place.

Agreed. I was pleasantly surprised. With all of it. Except Mr. DVC Nastypants. But as he wasn't representing the resort per se, I'm giving it a pass.

AKL is SO gorgeous! :lovestruc I was supposed to stay there on my October trip this year, but I switched to WL instead. I hope to stay there someday, the rooms are so beautiful!

I admit I was hesitant at first. I'd chosen it because it was the best value in terms of renting points. However, overall, I was very happy with the whole experience.

I've seen some of the Princess 1/2 merchandise on a few other TR's and it is SO cute. It seriously makes me want to do the 1/2 just so I can buy some of it!

I'm working my way up to the 1/2. I didn't feel quite right buying the 1/2 things when I was only doing the 5K.

That Pina Colava looks amazing, I can't believe I haven't tried one yet!

Oh my DEAR. It's fantastic. My favorite Disney drink second only to the Italian Margarita from the Tutto kiosk in Italy (my #1) and a Lapu Lapu (sans Bacardi 151 floater) from Tambu Lounge at the Poly (my #2).

You are low maintenance but I see pratically NOTHING on LM's side of the vanity.

Um.
Her stuff was still packed? Would you buy that?

Also.

You should've seen BF's side of the vanity. Made mine look as sparse as the Gobi.

And the six pairs of shoes? Oh, honey. We need to have a talk about what "low" maintenance really is.

Six IS low maintenance for me! One of those pairs of flip flops was to "go" with an outfit. I needed the sneakers for the race. I needed the dressy sandals for our Cali Grill night. And the other three sets of flippies were my "basics".

Believe me. This was after eliminating 3 other pairs.

Been there. Done that.

Never mind that I'm in need of a Happy Place in my general life right now. In a BIG way.....

It's been SO long but...

SKITTLE HUG!!!

Ok, we need to stop RIGHT. HERE. This line is CLEARLY referring to another LM. And not this one. Here. Me.

Don't make me come down there, woman.

Dude I was SO stinkin' excited. Do you ever wonder what other people are thinking when they see you smiling like that while texting?!

I just hope they don't think it's anything dirty.

You know who REALLY texts like a 14 year-old girl? My brother. He's 26. He had over 4,000 texts last month. For shame.

You have NO idea. And the lack of coffee that morning had EVERY thing to do with being the not-so-proud owner of The World's Smallest Bladder and not being willing to use the broom closet/lav on a plane.

I'd have done the same thing. I'm always afraid that I'm going to come out of the airplane bathrooms with something stuck to me that doesn't belong to me...like toilet paper...or an abandoned child...

I was too busy wiping the drool off my chin from gazing all over the AKL lobby in total, unadulterated AWE.

Oh, so THAT'S what the Caution: Wet Floor sign were for. ;)

I also enjoyed being "Mr. Tinkerbellarella" for a couple of days.:rotfl2:

I have no words. I'm laughing too hard.

I would probably toss a box of Lemon Zingers at you. No loss.

Or Snow Balls.

You may. I'm actually a little anxious to see what I look like!!

You look lovely. I'll find it in the next day or two and upload it to the TR.

This pool-side imbibement (is that a word?....well it is now) in your company was, and remains, one of THE Disney-est (is that a word either?!) parts of this trip. I could have done that for all 3 days. Never mind I'd have been 3 sheets.....:lmao:

Imagine what our Casey's photo shoot would've been like THEN?! :lmao:

Hmm.....am I low-maintenance, or painfully plain?.....:confused3

Actually, you're low-maintenance and incredibly neat and organized.

The room(s) look really nice; hopefully, they allowed you to have a good night's rest before race day!:thumbsup2

They were nice, and very roomy. My only complaint was the lack of closet space. Beds were comfy and, thankfully, the noise was minimal. As you'll see in a couple of chapters we moved anyway but I get ahead of myself.

Lunch time. Seems appropriate for posting a food-related chapter.

Let me start this post by saying that I love me some Disney food. Most of it - from the simplest meal from Casey's (I love you fake cheese sauce) to the California Grill and everywhere in between.

Well, mostly everywhere. I've yet to bring myself to try anything with "wurst" in its name.

I love Disney food even more when I'm "not paying for it" a la Free Dining. Which we did not have for this trip. I'm not complaining (maybe I am a little). The food tasted just as good (though it did taste a tad expensive ;)). And we did still have the regular (non-free) dining plan (DP). However, until BF arrived on Sunday, I'd be paying out of pocket (OOP) for my meals. Based on what we were noshing on, with whom, and when, this made the most sense financially.

Based on that logic, our dinner at Boma should have been good (but not great because it was not free).

Dinner at Boma was not good.

It was flippin' NOMTACULAR!
But first, I digress...

(who's surprised, really?)

I have no beef (pun intended) for the most part with the Disney Dining Reservation system. They've never lost my reservation, they've never hassled me and, with the exception of O'hana last September, I've always gotten what I've wanted, nearish the time I've wanted it for.

(NOTE: If you want to eat dinner at O'hana any time before 1 a.m., be ready to part with your first born. If it's REALLY tight, you may need to throw in your second born to sweeten the pot.)

However, Disney Dining had some sort of vendetta with my ADR's on this trip for Boma (both dinner this night and breakfast later in the week) and with Afternoon Tea at the Grand Flo.

For, quite literally, months I'd had our dinner at Boma confirmed for 6:50 p.m. Two weeks before we left, I logged on to confirm all of my reservations and that ADR no longer existed. I don't mean it had been canceled, I mean the confirmation # which had heretofore worked no longer even existed. I was peeved. Thankfully, a quick call to 407-WDWDINE and they were able to get me in at 5:50 p.m., but they were not able to tell me where my previous ADR dallied off to.

I considered calling Disney Lost & Found, then again, it's not like these were lost ponchos or something. ;)

As far as my Boma breakfast ADR later in the week, it simply would not let me book it. Period. Didn't matter what day or what time, it would let me get so far and then err out on me. The helpful CMs at WDWDINE were having the same problem. They said the "solution" was to call back. Every day. Until Boma had worked out its snit.

I didn't do that. Instead I just waited until some random morning, called, and got my ADR. Apparently the CM on the phone was well aware of Boma's identity crisis because when it spit out a confirmation number she exclaimed, "Good gracious! It made the reservation!"

Finally, Afternoon Tea. UGH. I love me some tea. Many women love them some tea. Many women would be in the World because of the Princess 1/2. I might not have been able to beat them in 13.1 miles, but I was certainly beating them to tea!

So at 180 days out I had called and made a 2:00 p.m. ADR and recorded my confirmation #.
Then I made some other reservations on the same call.
Then the CM recapped my ADRs and discovered the Tea ressie was cancelled.
She rebooked.
I re-recorded.
She recapped.
It was gone. Again.
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
On the 5th time, I think, it stuck.

I know they've been trying to "enhance" the dining system but, based on these experiences, my opinion is along the lines of, "If it ain't broke..."

Disney, apparently, feels more in the vein of, "Let's reinvent the wheel."

::sigh::

So, all of that to say:
1. Boma would be OOP, which I feel is a value given it's an all-you-can-eat buffet.
2. There would be some non-appetite related satisfaction to FINALLY check in and sit down to eat this meal.
and
3. I was a little afraid of this stuff they called pap.

Ok, maybe not so much that last one.

We checked in for our ADR and were seated right away. If you've been to Boma, we were seated towards the back, against the windows, in that round "bump out" type section. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I can't help you. I didn't take a picture. Sorry. Just imagine lots of thatch, columns made out of big jugs, pretty lighting and a curved, windowed, bumped out section. ::yes::

What can I say about Boma?

Well I can say:

Yum.
NOM.
Pork.
No Mulligatwny.
Burp ('Scuse me.)
More pork.
There's still dessert?
::sigh::
and
Really, that was a zebra dome?

My first plate:

DSCN4762.jpg

What I can remember/identify: Watermelon rind salad, pork, mac & cheese, some pita-type thingies and olive hummus, a corn muffin type thing.

That pork? With some sort of mustard on top? Ohhhhhh. NOM. So good! Tender and juicy and it made me sad for people who don't/can't eat pork.

That watermelon rind salad? I was SO sure I was going to love this. Upon hitting my mouth, however, I wanted to immediately spit it back out. And I don't DO that kind of thing (in public). I was NOT a fan of whatever they flavored it with. I was disappointed. It did not have me at hello.

Everything else on the plate was pretty good, including the mac & cheese. Then again if you know me you know my blood content is 23% mac & cheese so I'm kind of hard to disappoint in that regard.

My second plate:

DSCN4761.jpg

More pork, some roast chicken, beef, a sweet potato concoction, bobotie, cous cous somethingorother that may have had almonds?, another corn thingamajig and I think there was something hiding under the beef, but I can't recall what it was.

The meat here really was divine. The beef you could cut with your fork. The chicken was juicy and nicely flavored. And do I need to write you a sonnet about that pork? Because I probably could.

Everything else on the plate was...pretty good. In general I was hesitant about certain things. BF is even more conservative when it comes to trying new things which is why I did this ADR without him. In general I would describe everything I tried as savory. In some cases spicy (but not horribly so). Some things were sweet when I anticipated they would be salty. Nothing, except the watermelon rind salad, was disappointing.

Oh, and the Zebra Domes, but we'll get to that.

I think there may have been a small third plate which I didn't get a picture of. But then again, maybe not.

By dessert I was stuffed. I had not paced myself well. But I couldn't pass up the dessert buffet and I simply HAD to have myself one of those DIS-revered Zebra Domes.

Dessert plate:

DSCN4763.jpg

A Zebra Dome, mango tart, apple crisp, brownie, mini caramel cheesecake, and a cinnamon-dusted chocolate mousse.

I tried the Zebra Dome first. Honestly, my first thought was, "Meh."

I decided to try the other things on my plate and then go back to it. Comparatively speaking perhaps it was stupendous.

Mango tart - lovely! Creamy and the right combo of sweet and tart.
Apple crisp and brownie - eh, your run-of-the-mill apple crisp and brownie.
Mini caramel cheesecake - really sweet cheesecake.
Cinnamon-dusted chocolate mousse - AHHHHH...THIS is what I expected my Zebra Dome experience to be like. This was SO GOOD that I wanted to flagrantly ignore the fact that my belly was vigorously waving the white flag and have another.

I tried the Zebra Dome again. "Meh."

Now, in my defense I don't think it was bad. It's not that I didn't like it. I just...I dunno, I just didn't see the hype.

I get where people are coming from when they're all like, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DIDN'T LIKE SUCHANDSUCH? DO YOU EVEN HAVE FUNCTIONAL TASTE BUDS?!" That's how I feel when people tell me they don't really care for the Dole Whip. But really, that's my most honest review of the Zebra Dome.

Meh.

Bring on more of those tarts and the cinnamon dusted mousse however. I'm happy to take them off your hands and leave all the Zebra Domes to you!

After dinner we rolled ourselves back to the room. I laid down on the bed to encourage my belly to digest (I realize that's exactly what you DON'T do, but I was being lazy) while LM was getting her stuff together to head out for an evening in the Magic Kingdom.

I won't lie. I was sorely tempted to join her. I could here the MK calling me:

"Tinkerbellarella! There's Wishes! And the parade! And a Dole Whip float!

My body, however, was saying:

"Woman, if you'd like any chance of even seeing that finish line tomorrow without the aid of something with wheels and a motor, you'll stay in, shower, and rest as planned."

My body won out. LM headed out for her night in the World and I got myself ready for bed. I'd like to say I talked to BF about my day. Because that is what a good GF would do.

So let's say that. :flower3:

I watched a little TV and was drifting off around 9 p.m. or so. LM told me she was back in the room around 10 p.m. but I was out. O.U.T. The Main Street Electrical Parade could've made it's way through the room and I likely would've just rolled onto my other side.

Funny, why can't I do the same thing when BF snores???

I slept through the night and woke feeling rested.

And wondering what time it was.

I looked at the clock.

4:45 a.m.

Time to get our run on.

UP NEXT: On your mark, get set...is that guy dressed as Snow White?

I'll have to join in on the non Dome-Loving crowd here. Gotta be honest, I was completely underwhelmed, and like you, would have MUCH rather have had the other dainties up there. Boma was nomtastic in almost every other way. I was fully diggin' me some meat, and adored the fufu, bobotie, and other more exotic fare they offerred. YUMMO! And, I guess I have to say, just about any restaurant over at AKL (or Kidani for that matter) has got my immediate attention and passion.

good call on, "now I lay me down to sleep". I shudder to think what might have happened the next day had you been out sipping some Dole Whips.

Good to know I'm not the only one.

BF was ALL about adding Jiko on once he arrived. I guess his Captain at the firehouse talked it up before he left. Apparently he and his wife are big Disney nuts. (I think I need to make sure BF is on HIS shift. ALL the time.)

When we went down to check out the menu, there wasn't much on there that made him think, "YUM!" so we didn't end up doing it. I think maybe it was a little too much this time. Maybe next time though. And I personally would probably try Jiko before Sanaa. I like a lot of the appetizer type items on the Sanaa menue but I could eat a full 3-course meal from Jiko's menu.

good call on, "now I lay me down to sleep". I shudder to think what might have happened the next day had you been out sipping some Dole Whips.

It's not much of a spoiler so I'll say I actually probably would've been fine. But more on that in the race chapter. :thumbsup2

I'm a little behind here, but a couple things:

I'm disappointed you only brought 6 pairs of shoes.

My car doesn't have a name, but my iPhone's name is Lola as well.

Okay, back to reading.

I dunno if following this TR is good for me right now or not..... On the one hand, it's bringing me some much-needed Happy Place. On the other, I am craving a meal at Boma -- now!!!!! It was flippin' NOMTACULAR!

I think my favorite dessert was the mini-caramel cheesecake..... :lovestruc

I wonder, for the future, how long you can get away with sitting there while you digest and make room for more?:rolleyes1

.

I'm disappointed you only brought 6 pairs of shoes.

LMAO! I've been known to bring 8, but that's only because of my suitcase's limited capacity. I'd bring all 50+ I own if I could.

I wonder, for the future, how long you can get away with sitting there while you digest and make room for more?:rolleyes1

We'll have to ask BF about that. He's a buffet/all-you-can-eat MASTER. :yoda:

I've never ate at Boma before; I chickened out and cancelled my ADR for it on my last trip, because my DF doesn't enjoy trying new restaurants out.

After reading your experience there, though, this is now a must-do on my next trip. Your food looked sooo good.
And those desserts....

Glad to see you were able to get a good night of sleep before your race. can't wait to hear how the 5K went.

BF has been really into branching out as of late and I can usually tell by looking at the menu if it's too far out there for him. When we looked at Boma, I knew he'd be MUCH more comfortable with breakfast than dinner and so that's what I booked for his part of the trip.

I don't mind a little spoiler now and again so let me tell you -- HE LOVED IT! As in, could've sat there until they stopped serving breakfast.

Insofaras dinner is concerned, having eaten there I can honestly say there was less there that would've excited him but he probably would've done ok. The food is definitely not mainstream, but it's not all that far off. The meats are spiced well and aren't strange to the palate and there was enough there for even the pickiest eater, IMHO.

I say go for it! And if you're really THAT concerned, do breakfast instead. And try the Jungle Juice (formerly Frunch, though I don't know why they changed the name - it's the same thing). It's like Lilikoi juice from Kona. VERY good.

BF has been really into branching out as of late and I can usually tell by looking at the menu if it's too far out there for him. When we looked at Boma, I knew he'd be MUCH more comfortable with breakfast than dinner and so that's what I booked for his part of the trip.

Thanks for such a detailed review, I really appreciate it.
Mmmm... I love Lilikoi juice...I will have to try a Boma breakfast just to try some Jungle juice.
