The Unofficial STROLLER Thread

I said I would report back with how we did with the Valco Buggster as a park stroller so here goes...

I actually really liked this as a park stroller! It was the perfect combination of a "full size-ish" stroller for DSs comfort and compact fold for convenience. DS loved it too. He would climb in it it with his sippy cup just to sit in it and watch tv in our room. My stroller rider is 19 months old. He weighs 33 lbs and I'm not quite sure how tall he is, but I know he's taller than your average 2 year old. DH is 6'4" and I'm 5'11" so all 3 of our kids are tall. Here's a pic of him in the stroller...

It handled really well. I could push it one handed very easily. The chunky wheels make going over anything bumpy like the cobblestones in the Liberty Square area a breeze, it handles grass, dirt trails and fine gravel well too (based on a few neighborhood walks the last few days!). The basket is nice sized and easy to access. The recline was deep enough for DS to nap comfortably several times on our trip and the seat can also sit straight up for when he wanted to look around. It's not a flat recline but it's deeper than that of something like a Mac Triumph. DS likes having a bumper bar but it can easily be flipped down or removed. One think I love about this stroller is that it is not tippy at all. I have a Mac Volo and have had 2 other Maclarens and my biggest complaint about them is that they are so super tippy that you can't hang anything on the back without having it tip over when you take baby out. That is not the case with the Buggster. As you can see I used a Skip Hop Dash diaper bag as a saddle bag on the stroller. I can also put it on the back completely loaded with stuff and it won't tip over. I put it on as a saddle bag so it wouldn't be in the way if I wanted to recline the seat for DS to nap. I would pull up to bag check at each park and just make sure that bag was on the side next to the security person. We spent 10 days at WDW and I would bet we went through bag check about 17 times. Only once was I asked to unhook it and that was only one side, not both. I could even fold the stroller with the bag still hooked to it. Very convenient! I don't carry a bunch of stuff around with us so I probably could have just used a Skip Hop Saddle Bag but I didn't have one and didn't think about it in time to order one before our trip.

The Buggster has a nice big seat that is comfy for baby...

The black seat pad is made to circulate air to keep the little ones from getting too hot. It velcros on to the seat so you can remove it for easy washing. I had a custom seat pad I put on top of that in case of spills or leaks but that one is nice and cushy and comfy.

The seat fabric as well as the underseat basket are attached with zippers so it's easy to unzip, wash and reattach. VERY nice feature!

Another nice thing is that it comes with a rain cover and a mesh uv cover that zip on to the hood and snap at the bottom so your little one is completely covered. It's nice that it comes with these accessories rather than having to buy them at an additional cost later.

it folds similar to an umbrella stroller...

The front wheel sticks out...

but it can be removed quickly and easily with just the push of a button so that the stroller folds flat. The wheel snaps right back in so it really can't be any easier at all.

It even has a carry strap so you can sling it over your shoulder once it's folded. I didn't really do that though, I figured out I could push or pull it rolling it on it's back wheels once it was folded. That made it very convenient! IT's fairly light weight too. About 16 lbs.

I love that it is different looking too! That's a big thing for me in a stroller. Between it's different look and it's bright color it was very easy to spot in stroller parking. It got a lot of attention. The CMs taking strollers from the queue at the safari ride were very interested in it. LOL They had quite a few questions about it. I was stopped at least once a day and asked about it.

All in all it was a fantastic park stroller and I am so glad I got it! It will definitely be back with us. It works well for bigger kids. I totally see us using this until he is out of regular stroller age and then just using our volo for trips. I wish the handles were just about an inch taller but it wasn't too short to be comfy...just an extra inch would make it even better!

Looks like a great stroller Wendy. I was torn as of what to do for our trip. My DD will be nearly 17 months and I was going to rent a WDW stroller...but now for the 10 day price...I might as well purchase one. I've been researching and thought I had my choice down to the Peg Perego Pliko Lite...but now you have put this buggy in the race! LOL

Does anyone know if there is sales tax on strollers when you purchase online at Toys R Us or Albeebaby? And how much? I'm going to have it shipped to the resort.

A web site has sales tax if the web site has a "physical presence" in the state. So, Toys R Us will have sales tax for Florida since there are Toys R Us stores in Florida. I don't think that albeebaby.com has a physical store anywhere, so no sales tax if you buy from albeebaby.com. Check the web site if you are unsure. Sales tax rates vary, even within a state. (For example, I'm charged 8.25 percent in my town and online if there is "physical presence", but I can go to the next suburban town and be charge 8 percent.)

Now, I don't know if they calculate sales tax by billing address or shipping address. I assume that it is by billing address. So, if you enter Canada as billing, which is supposed to match your credit card bill in most cases if you buy by credit card, and enter Florida as shipping, I don't know what happens.

Probably more info than you want.

From my experience in working with a company that shipped stuff through out Canada and the US, taxes are based on shipping address. My company is based in Canada, so the US system might be differnt.

No much help, eh??

I was going to post a new thread but I'll do it here. I'm just not sure of what to do about the stroller. I have DS5 - 44lbs & DS3 30lbs. I already own

*2 umbrella strollers with no bottom basket or canopy
* a single Graco travel system Stroller
* a HEAVY 50lb zooper double stroller

I don't think any of these will work for us so should I just bite the bullet and buy a new lightweight double and then just ebay it when we're done or should we just go with something we have? The zooper is a great stroller but it's not really travel friendly and I don't want to be one of those people trying to get on the shuttle bus with it.

Albee Baby has a store in NYC. They are also "babysurplus" on eBay and once you factor in shipping, their eBay prices are usually the same as their own website.

what about getting two good lightweight umbrella such as the mac volo. I would think they would be easier to transport and get around in. and if the older one decides he doesn't need a stroller you can leave one in the room.

I am going to disney for the first time in august. I will be taking my DD 4, and my DS 1. I have a double full size stroller but I would really like to bring an umbrella stolller with me. I dont want to spend alot of money but I will be using it after disney also. My DD is about 35 lbs and my son is about 25 lbs. Any help?

Another idea (in addition allie1078's suggestion of two umbrellas) is to take two strollers that you already own - the single Graco and one umbrella stroller. I'm guessing that you could fold the umbrella and either hang the handles off the Graco or put it in the basket of the Graco when DS5 isn't riding. I saw someone doing this at Disney in January.

If you do end up with buying something like two Maclaren Volos, you could always resell (actually, I'd keep one and sell the other after Disney).

I just bought 2 Combi strollers from babies r us for dd 3 and ds 1 1/2 and i even bought a connecter so I can push them as 1 if my dh isn't with me. i love the strollers! haven't tried them connected yet and they do fold up really small. smaller than the maclaren. the weight limit on these is 55lbs. i was going to buy a cheapo umbrella stroller but dd is about 35lbs and it looked like she was going to bust right out of the seat! oh and babies r us had a coupon for 20 bucks off of each stroller.

Are you looking for a double umbrella or a single (or two singles)? And "not a lot of money" means different things to different people - what is your upper limit?

Maclaren Volos are popular - inexpensive (around $100), good quality, lightweight, compact fold, high weight limit (55 lbs). However, they don't recline which may be a problem for a 1 year old. There are Maclarens that recline, but the price goes up.

Peg Perego P3 is a great stroller, too, but it is more full-featured. I call it an umbrella stroller on steroids. It is plush, great hood, full recline, good quality. The fold isn't intuitive, but it is easy. And the side handle makes it easy to pick up even if it is a bit heavier than some of the Maclarens. It is a great stroller from infant to toddler to preschooler. They can be pricey, but albeebaby.com has 2007 models on sale.

Here's one for $179 (I love the color) ...http://www.albeebaby.com/pegpeplp320s.html

Check ebay and albeebaby.com for deals.

If you have Babies R Us nearby, I would go man-handle a few strollers of these to see what you like.

I was going to buy the Combi Flare for my niece (4) but after seeing a mother at the library pushing her younger son in one, I decided it wasn't worth the money.

The back wheels were wabbling quite bad. I could get it for $85 Can up here but I'm going this weekend just to see the Maclarens and the Peg's.

I'll update this weekend. So far I am leaning more to the Pegs as they have more features for less money. Everyone seems to rave about Maclarens so it will be interesting to see.

mine are Combi Cosmo Ex and I have no problem with them whatsoever. I think that I spent about 75 on each one. Thought about the Maclaren but I didn't like the way it folded down. I needed something a little smaller since I need 2 strollers and we are driving to WDW and I have a civic. Not a whole lot of trunk space.

I don't think $100 is "inexpensive" for a lightweight umbrella stroller. I was headed for the Volo, but after testing it at BRU, was unimpressed, I found the handles to be short and I'm only 5'4". I also thought it felt tippy. Probably because I'm looking for a bigger kid stroller. I went with the Combi Urban as my DD is 6 and weighs 45 lbs. I'm sure the MacLaren holds up really well, but we only need it for 'way too tired' to walk times and I spent $60 for the Combi Urban. I was surprised because based on the boards I thought I'd prefer the Volo-to each his own I guess;)
I felt the Combi was easier to manage. I also liked the evenflo Xsport plus for only $40 but based on weight max (55 vs. 40) chose the Combi.------

Well we are going on a disney trip from 12-23-08 until 1-2-09 I'm due on NOvember 3rd....and our son will be two...any suggestions on a double stroller...it has to be GRACO so that the car seat will fit in it for the baby...and I'd like one that BOTH seats recline enough for them to take a nap when they are both older....Thanks y'all

We own the Graco Quatro Tour Duo and LOVE it!! Both seats recline with pleanty of room in the back seat when the front is reclined. We also love that there isn't a bar across the front seat so that dd 3 can get in and out when she wants to. However if you want to put the car seat in the front instead of the back, it does come with a bar that you can put across so that the car seat will attatch. We also love that the seat backs are much higher up than the Graco duoglide, making it more comfy for the kiddo's, expecially in the recline position. Another thing we have learned is that if you are going to push this stroller one handed, you need to put the heavier child in the back seat (in case you have to carry the baby for a while or something). Makes it much easier to push one handed. Pleanty of cup holders and basket space, even a seperate basket up front for the front passenger (that they can get into themselves), and storage area on the back of the front seat for books, sippies, diapers, etc... It is a beast to lift in and out of the car, but you really don't lift it up that much, and just think, you are getting a workout at the same time!! :rotfl: Anyway, if you are looking for a Graco one, I would recommend that one.

BTW your kids are ADORABLE!!!!
That was actually one of the two I was looking at...and I really don't mind the lifting part that's DBF's job:rotfl:
