Well it seems I've been slacking on this thread a bit. Looks like Disney has brought back the Summer Price Slice! $59 for all 4 courses after 10am. I used to make a weekend trip with my brother every year for this, but they didn't have it last year for some reason. Glad to see its back!

Okay I am in no way a regular golfer. I used to play a decent amount like 3 or 4 years ago but since then I rarely go out and play. I am starting to get into golf again though and am heading to the world in August. Now my question is what is the best 18 hole course for a beginner? Are there a lot of beginners that golf down in Disney? I'm not trying to embarrass myself hahaha

Bits of the question were posted earlier however is it required you group with others? My wife and I want to play on our own and not group.

I don't question the merits of a group but it's not what we are looking for.

Depends on how busy it is. If you go at a busy time you likely will get paired up. Not much you can do other than select a less busy day/time.

He would probably enjoy both. I would also suggest Osprey Ridge, as its more difficult than both Palm and Magnolia in my opinion.

We are currently booked for Osprey Ridge next week. I can't remember why I picked that one--probably from that WDW golf site. I've been thinking about it, though, and am not as excited about playing the 200 yard par 3s. I see that we could get a Palm tee time at the same time. Not sure if we should switch it or not. Also, I am concerned about some comments on here about the poor condition of Osprey Ridge. Can anyone offer any recent experiences on course condition?

DH and DS played Palm last week - the course was torn up and they had to keep the cart on the path. They were also accosted by a raccoon which got into DS's bag. Apparantly, he has been stalking the golfers on a couple of the holes. They both recommend Lake Buena Vista instead.

Yes encounters with wildlife are common My brother once got a hot dog from the beverage cart and a crow flew into our cart, grabbed the entire hot dog pouch, flew about 30 yards away where it landed and pulled the hot dog out of the foil pouch, and then flew off. This was while we were on a green, and the crow flew right over us with the dog. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen...

As to the questions on Osprey, yes there are lengthy par 3s, but there are also many tee boxes, so I would tend to think that you could find one more in the right range. As to the condition of the courses, well this is often maintenance time of year and the greens are often under aeration, etc. I would think things would be back to normal in a week or two...

Palm was tore up? really It must of started after that?, I play Palms on the 5th and yes we had to use the path but because of the dampness of the fair ways, I did not see any Issues with the course It self. Matter of fact the course play great,we play from the whites,the greens wher pretty damp and slow but had a great time. I play LBV on Friday the 9th, love,love this course,by far my favorit I love how It Intertwnds between the wooded areas and the resorts. Its a challenge from all the tee boxs really and someone with a high hadicap could easly have fun hitting from the blues.

I did not see it myself, DH & DS played. It had rained a LOT between 7/1 - 7/7.
They played on 7/7. They also prefer LBV!!

My DH will be playing Osprey Ridge in September. He has a 7:50 t-time. How long approx does it take to play the course? He's not a terrible golfer, but I have no idea what his handicap is. He plays quite a bit during the summer.

I would budget a 5 hour round to be safe. It often runs faster than that, but that would be sort of a worst case scenario...

Perfect, thanks. We want to have a meet up point when he's done & since our Canadian cell phones wouldn't work down there last year, I'm assuming they won't work again so we have to have a middle point somewhere since we can't contact each other.

Very true...I sort of skipped over the tee time part. There will only be a handful of groups on the course that early, so things will not have log jammed as bad as later in the morning/afternoon...

My husband and I are heading down for F&W - read somewhere earlier this year the golf discounts changed for DVC...for the worse - what about for the golf membership rates...(with annual pass)? Only way I got him to sign on was to DVC was the golf...Thanks much

Lake Buena Vista is probably the one you will want to play. IMO it is more open and player friendly. Plus it weaves through some of the resorts and canals to DTD so its a good tour as well.

When will details about the CMN tournament be available? How do I go about getting tickets? Discounts available to Disney Visa card holder or those staying at Disney resorts? Trying to entice dh into a November trip.

Tickets will probably be no problem at all, and I'm sure you can just get them day of. The allure of this event has faded over the years for the players, and most of the big names don't show up. Kinda sad, as I have great memories as a kid of my dad playing in the pro-am portion every year.

Ok, I'm trying to figure this out...

I want to play in December with my father-in-law. I'm staying at SSR, he's staying off-site. I assume that means I pay the resort guest rate, and he pays the day guest rate, correct?

But if I buy the DVC golf membership for $50, we can both use that discount, right?

One other question: I'm sure I heard somewhere that resort guests get free club rental, but only if paying full rate. So if I'm using the DVC discount, I have to pay for rentals, right? Does the DVC membership give a discount on the club rental, too?

I'm thinking the DVC membership is not worth it if I'm not bringing my own clubs, unless I'm going to play multiple rounds a day.

Could you guys give me advice about taking my son to a driving range at WDW?

He's 8 and just finished his first summer of golf lessons. He has his own clubs, but it would be easier if they had child size clubs there. We would love to take him to a driving range to practice and have fun. Where do you suggest? LBV? Also, how much would it cost? Do you need to make a reservation?
