The (un)OFFICIAL PALEO/PRIMAL/SCD Thread!

During Easter weekend we stayed at the BCV in a studio.

The first night's dinner was right next-door at Captain's Grille at the YC. I thought I might be limited to fish (didn't really feel like the steak), but the wonderful chef dug into her stores of un-marinaded lamb. She prepared lamb chops, Brussels sprouts and spinach with just salt, pepper and olive oil, just for me!! The spinach was heavenly. When she came back by the table, I let her know. She fessed up that she just doused it in EEOV - I thought it was wonderful.20160324_174046-c.jpg

Friday we went to Yak & Yeti in AK. This restaurant is always DH's first choice (for the seafood curry). The seafood curry is GF, but that is not enough for me. However, they were able to prepare this yummy dish:

Yak & Yeti in AK - Tuna (if memory serves), steamed Bok Choy & Broccoli. Canola Oil, salt & pepper.

Saturday was DHS, so back to Mama Melrose's. The fish was divine, the broccolini could have been steamed a little longer. Last time they smoked the broccolini a little, for flavor, but this time it was just steamed. But the fish was better this time, so no complaints... :cutie:

I can't find the photo of this one just now, so just imagine the previous MM post photo, all over again - LOL!

Sunday we went to BoG and I spoke with the chef. He made me some pepper-seared tuna with plain greens and a few tomatoes.

I can't seem to find any more pics of food, other than my room pics, so I suspect I got excited and greedy and just ate, before I even remembered to snap a photo.

Monday we went to Biergarden. I love buffets. I know they gross some people out, but I love the enormous variety that I don't have to prepare!

Since we were leaving that day, I decided to chance a couple of GF sausages and some sauerkraut. I love their sauerkraut. I could make a meal of it.

This trip, after we landed and picked up our car, we ran over to Costco for a quick bite and some shopping. I occasionally chance their chicken Cesar salad, no croutons, no dressing, pick off the cheese and only eat about half the chicken (because I'm pretty certain it's brined in something I can't have).

We picked up: greens, vacuumed packed chicken (the Coleman chicken breast - organic and a bit spendy, but less work), veggie tray, fruit (for DH), coffee, etc.

Zipped over to the grocery store and got some stuff like juice, sugar for coffee, chips for DH and basic olive oil for me.

By the time we were done, Disney texted me that our room was ready, so we went to the hotel, found and accessed our room with our Magic Bands. Once in the room, DH unloaded groceries, while I called for our Owner's Lockers to be brought up.

So here are some pics of breakfast/dinner:

Breakfast in room - vacuum-packed smoked salmon (Costco), greens (me) & salad (DH)

So here a couple of new (to me, anyway) tricks for food prep in room- Ziploc steamer bags, crockpot as a Sous Vide and a digital thermostat!

Not wanting cold raw greens, a couple of mornings I opted to microwave greens in a Ziploc steamer bag. I also bought a digital thermostat so I could cook those Costco Coleman-brand vacuum-packed plain chicken breasts right in our room.

150 F and between 2-4 hours and BAM! Done! Food I can handle and no worries about cross-contamination or unknowns. Can't beat it!

Just found this thread - great information here.

A little about me... I am not strictly paleo, but I do have multiple food allergies (wheat, corn, peanuts and lactose intolerant) and we try to limit sugar and starches at home. Long story short, I had these latent food allergies (had tested allergic as a child) but I never really completely cut out those foods so I had developed a tolerance for them. Then last year we set out to be a little more healthy and, after cutting these foods out of our diets for a period of time, I now have some pretty serious allergic reactions to them (hives, itching, swelling, congestion, migraines). While cooking at home is easy, it has made eating out and traveling a lot more challenging.

I have been a little apprehensive about our upcoming trips because they will be the first at Disney with my limited diet. But now I am feeling a little more comfortable about being able to get beautiful and delicious meals while on vacation.
