The (un)OFFICIAL PALEO/PRIMAL/SCD Thread!

That sounds good! Since you ordered at CHH, do you happen to know if the broccoli salad at CHH can be made gluten free even if a topping or two had to be removed?

I had plain, steamed broccoli (comes with the salmon). Are you talking about the broccoli peppercorn salad? I don't know, offhand. It would be great if that could modified. I just read the description and it sounds delish!

We're going in a week - I'll try to remember to ask.

Yes, that's the one! I asked about salads on the restaurant board and someone recommended that one. It does sound delicious!!

What's the general consensus on the turkey legs? Pretty sure they are brined with some amount of sugar, but maybe not enough to be dangerous?

Anyone else have first-hand experience?

I don't know what the sugar content is, but I (like you) assume there is sugar in the brine. However, the turkey didn't taste sugary. I am strict low carb (have been for over 2 years now), and I can tell when something has sugar in it. I definitely get one every day we are at MK or DHS.

Good to know. Thanks!!

Just got back from a trip to the World. Had a great time and lots of really delicious Paleo meals. Since we were staying at SSR, our first dinner was at the Turf Club Bar & Grill. I had the grilled New York strip. The chef came out and spoke with me and was very thorough. She substituted extra asparagus for the starch. Although they were very accommodating, I could pass on this particular dish. I've had much better elsewhere. I also found the asparagus underdone. I think next time I will go with my gut and get the grilled lamb chops.

DH loved his salmon (with sauce and starch - he doesn't have allergies!)

Next night we went to the Contemporary - California Grill. I have been dying to go here for a while. Let me just say - perfection! The waiter took my order and made everything perfect. In fact, when my Catch of the Day came with garlic (which I can't eat right now), I mentioned it and the waiter whisked it away, brought a new one immediately and apologized profusely. The service was wonderful. Definitely will go here again, soon!

DH had the Bison (with starch and sauce)

I also got this great little memento with my gin and soda.

Thursday we went to AK, then had dinner at Boma (Boma, Boma, Boma...), our favorite. We can't go to WDW without going to Boma. So many choices. And they are always great about walking you through the line. We are going to try Jiko next time (if I can pull DH away from Boma - Lol)

Friday we went to DHS. At H&V, they walked me through the line and there were a good number of choices. Friday night we walked down to Swan where they had a really nice seafood buffet at Garden Grove Café. In addition to the items below, we each received a half lobster. Overall, nice, not outstanding. We would go again. Not sure if I prefer this seafood buffet or Cape May's. Guess I'll have to try them on the same trip to compare them better. ;-)

Mediterranean Salad (Greek Salad). I didn't have because of the Feta.

This was a Smoked Fish Dip. Looked good, but dairy based...

There was also a 'Veg of the Day' which was peas and carrots.

Saturday we went grocery shopping. I highly recommend the Publix in Celebration. Been there a couple of times and - wow. The selection is fantastic. Later that day, we took a golf lesson then made burgers in the room.

Sunday - EPCOT & Biergarten (quickly becoming another fav).

Monday - work. (Gotta pay the bills)

Tuesday - Mama Melrose's. We've been here twice and this place always surprises me. I expect that the food will be blah, fakey Italian-American, too much sauce, too much salt, too much atmosphere and much, too much heavy. But it is nice and the food isn't weighty at all. Our waiter was tremendous and cracked me up by calling me "Princess" throughout the meal (I'm anything but). I really wish I could remember his name.

I had a salad

It was unbelievably good. And since I had everything without sauce, garlic or any other traditional flavors they actually slightly 'smoked' the broccolini

DH had the Saltimbocco. I think I could try this option without all the add-ons

And we both had somewhat bottomless cups of espresso (really tasty, I miss it - Starbuck's wishes they could make it this way - Lol)

Wednesday & Friday we did a couple more buffets. Thursday we worked (it rained both days we opted to work - so we didn't feel cheated at all).

Saturday we closed out the week at Teppan Edo. We both had the scallops. They prepared mine ahead of everyone else's. I think I would get the steak & chicken next time. I found the scallops were overcooked (easy to do with scallops), but the show was fun.

Here's our chef 'Kento' (pretty sure his real name was Kevin, or maybe Dave...) hamming it up. What a card!

goofy4wdw2, I asked about the Peppercorn salad and the hostess assured me it could be modified any way you needed it to be! (Yay Disney - they make it so easy).

Great thread. i have recently drastically changed my diet, since being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. So i am eating mostly paleo now. i was thinking that i could just stick with meats, fish, and veggies or salad (no dressing or dressing on the side). i've been looking at all the menus at WDW, since we are going in March next year. We will be staying in a villa with a kitchen half the time, and will be ordering some of our food from the Garden Grocer. My sister's husband is a super health nut, so we will be getting lots of veggies. Looking forward to all the suggestions here.

We usually get a kitchen or kitchenette so we can eat most of our breakfasts in our room. We also keep a NutriBullet in our Owner's Locker. Lots of veggie smoothies (kale & spinach for me). I add a little fruit to DH's smoothie (he has a stomach like a goat and can eat anything! Lol).

I make meals quick & easy (so I can get to rope drop - haha) by using the Birdseye Steamfresh. The kind with just plain veg. We split the veg, add olive oil, salt and hot pepper flakes - yum! I get a couple of bags of the brown rice for DH and he can usually get two meals out of one bag.

We will be at POR first couple days then over to BWV. My brother-in-law will pack a lot of greens in his checked suitcase, sturdy things like kale. Then brings zip lock steamer bags, and plans on using the microwave in the food court at POR to cook them with some spices. i guess i will try that, too. i think my body will go into withdrawals if i don't get a giant pile of greens every day. :)

Those are good tips! I know my body does the same - no greens=big withdrawals. Lol. Let us know how it goes. :)

I haven't posted here in awhile, but I haven't been to Disney in awhile. :p

I have had to cut back on variety due to increased reactions to food :sad2:. So now I am basically 75% greens and 25% anything else (protein, green beans, etc.).

Thank goodness for Disney chefs or I would never be able to eat in restaurants!

I (we) generally eat breakfast & dinner in the room (with the exception of the first night on this trip) and have a nice TS lunch in the parks.

So here is the rundown from our last trip, along with how I handled cooking in the room this time...
