A few weeks ago, my daughter left her turtle outside in his little plastic habitat thingy. When she thought about it, she went back to get him, and he was gone. We spent about thirty minutes searching all over the yard, but we couldn't find a trace of him. I figured that either a big bird saw him, and took off with him, or a neighborhood cat might have snatched him (he was a very small turtle).
Fast forward to this past Sunday. I was walking into our house, and sure enough, there on the ground in front of me was the little turtle dude. He was all covered in dirt, but besides that he didn't look too bad. A friend told me that they once had a turtle go MIA for a couple of months before it showed back up.
I was just wondering if anybody had experience with a turtle that got away, stayed gone for a while, and then came back.
I'm thinking it might make a good Disney movie or something. The Incredible Journey 3 - Timmy the Turtle's Big Adventure.

Pictures please! I'm fascinated by turtles.

We had a cat that made it back home after a long time. She got loose around 30 miles from our house when going to the vet, and we thought she was a lost cause. About three months later, she showed up on our porch, all beat up and bedraggled, poor thing. What was weird was, we hadn't had her that long, so how did she find her way back to our house??? Aren't animals amazing?

I'll see if I can't snap a picture of the turtle a little later (get it snap - turtle :lmao: , OK give me a break, I'm tired today).
If I do take a picture (assuming he's still there), I'll do my best to upload it as well.

UPDATE:
He's gone again. I thought we had left his little aquarium thing covered, but either we didn't, or he found a way to move it himself.
I'm thinking of changing his name to "Walkabout" or "rover".

Maybe he's got a wife and kids waiting for him somewhere. :confused3

Sorry he got loose again. :(

Yes, our turtle Emile has left our pond, went MIA, and returned a couple of times... it must be a part of turtle nature to go off on sabbatical sometimes.:rotfl: We think he digs himself a hole under the house and chills out there for awhile.

My DH also had a turtle growing up that went MIA for a few months and showed back up in their backyard looking at everyone like "hey y'all, what's up!". I hope your turtle shows back up!

MushyMushy, we love turtles too! Here are some pics for you-

This was taken in the swamp section of our zoo here in New Orleans:

And this was taken in City Park- I love how the dragonfly is resting on the turtle's shell while he basks in the sun.

I have friends who have turtles and they were telling me that they don’t see one of them for weeks on end because it buries itself in the back yard. Maybe that’s were your little fellow is. Hope you find him again.
