The tunnels/caves on TSI (er, pirate's lair?)?

I've been to PL on TSI (have I seen that shortened to PLOTSI? :rotfl: ), but I haven't explored in any caves or tunnels.

I look at them and think "omg they are so tiny", and get a bit freaked out, and point my 3 year old son somewhere else. He got to go in one narrow opening down a set of stairs and out somewhere b/c my brother was with him, and my brother is very slim and not afraid of closed-in spaces at all.

But I worry about fitting in the caves and tunnels (I'm not extremely large, but I'm not trim yet, either), and I worry about how close they really get.

I've seen pictures of the stuff inside, and I WANT to visit them on this trip (solo trip, to explore what I can do with DS next time), but I'm scared.

Can anyone help me get a feel for how small/large the passageways are, and the "average" American bottom can squeeze through?

(OK just typing that I'm thinking "of course they can, they wouldn't have made them so only a size 2 could get through", but this is the ONE thing I have truly worried about since TSI opened again!)

Oh, also, could any men speak up with relative body size for a guy to go in the caves and tunnels? DH is doing great in Weight Watchers, but he's still a bit over 300 lbs, so he has definitely avoided the passageways (I will think about going in, but DH doesn't even think about it). At what point do you think DH will be able to squeeze through?

Don't be scared! The tunnels are more than accomodating, the only times it gets tight is when there are crowds coming in from each end and you have to slip by each other inside but it is nothing. Plenty of room and a few little surprises to see.

Check it out and the best advice I would give is to hit the island either early in the morning or later in the day when there are less people and kids running around in the caves playing hide-and-go-seek. You will enjoy it more with less traffic. Also, check out the tree house, go up in there and enjoy the view, which is one of the better ones in the park IMO!

PL, just call it PL..Pirate's Lair.

My DGD searched all those caves the weekend she was there. Some were a tight squeeze for me, I'm 5'7 around 160lbs...and there were a few, I was afraid to go in with her not knowing if I could go out the other side<G>
My DD who is 5'4' and thin, said that there was only one she wasn't sure about only because it was so dark inside....but she assured me that I could have fit in all those tunnels/caves. What was nice was the ac going through some of those tunnels...when it's hot, you may not want to leave.

Did you "unearth" all the treasure on the island? Turn the wheels, spin something...my dh knew our dgd would love finding the treaure...so he gave me the hints. Which is also why we had to go in all the tunnels/caves to find more treasure<G>

Thanks for the info so far!

I honestly need several visits to a place before I can really start to get a handle on it, so even though I know we wandered the OUTER parts of the island pretty well during our September trip, I don't know what all we found, compared to what there is to find. :) Add a three year old to my normal difficulty in getting oriented to a place, and my mind is chaos.

That's part of what has prompted this quick solo trip. :)

Does anyone have other thoughts?

My DD loves to explore them and I can usually keep up and I am 6'3" and 240#. I fit throughout the entire deal.
