The Trophy Room

Was down there today so weird. About 15 guys all dressed in black outside the front door at least couple hours we were there. Saw them knocking. Thought they might be future employees but clearly memos lost.

Looks like you may have answered that question! if they were hoping for wristbands they were at wrong location.

and the event that will spark violence in disney is......... not joking, I saw some exclusive sneaker releases in nyc and they all ended up not happening, police closing down neighborhoods and the tension was really high. guns drawn and people still trying to get past them to break into the store in case they were in the store room.. never been scared in nyc before or since.. I will not be anywhere near springs for the next few days.

if they pull this off, kudos to them! now we know what the 24/7 sprinkles atm is for.

Must have just missed you at DS today - we also saw those 15 guys in black and couldn't even figure out what the store was. My guess was a restaurant that was just about to open and they were the wait staff. :)

Interesting info WEDWDW!

On wall closest to garage was big color poster of what it would look like. We knew what it was and when coming but didn't get why the guys were there. We didn't understand if employees why they didn't call someone.

Dang..had no clue about this. If I would've been in the area I'd definitely go get a ticket to be able to buy the shoes.

Big sneaker head so I'm definitely looking forward to visiting Michael Jordan's sons boutique when I get up there. Wondering what Jordan's they'll be carrying and what other products they'll have.

Mark me down for this being something about which I could not possibly care less.

(Although it was fun composing the above sentence.)

Sneakers will always be a huge draw. I work in NYC and there's a Finishline near my job. I always know there's a big release when I see lawn chairs and tents outside.

I'm just worried about the crowd it can bring to Disney Springs. This has NOTHING to do with race. Whether you're white, black, yellow or a small little mouse, these sneaker releases are like GOLD if you're a big sneaker fan. I've seen fights break out over sneaker releases. This is the only store I've seen open at DS that I'm iffy about.

And - what happens if there's a huge release during a very crowded time at Disney, like Christmas? This one is a head scratcher...

I'm going in about an hour, just to walk around. not interested in the Trophy Room at all. But I will report back on the craziness of it :)

i hear ya. you ever see the prices some of the old ones go for and the limited editions.

Just got back. I understand that the actual buying of the shoes went on early in the morning but there was still a line to get into the store at noon, about a 30 minute wait. I didn't wait for it since I wasn't really that interested. I can tell you that I have never seen a larger presence of police at Disney, ever. About 20 officers walking around the store, and saw about 5 officers in bicycles just riding around Town Center.

friendly advice to those shopping there. I would take caution even with just a bag from them for the next week or so. (put it in another bag) People get crazy over limited edition sneakers and it's like the wild west when they think you might have them. It can be shocking the first time you see it if you've never been around a sneaker launch like this.

For all of the people who posted on the prior thread regarding the first impressions of Disney Springs who exhibited a dislike or disinterest in the new shopping area because "it is just like our mall back home", this event pretty much proves the point that Disney Springs (or at least the retail portion of it) was not built for tourists. It exists to serve the locals. How else can you explain the wristband procedure on 5/22?

  • Vehicles may not arrive at the Strawberry Parking Lot prior to 7:00 a.m.
  • Wristbands will be distributed to guests while they remain in their vehicles upon entry to the Strawberry Parking Lot
  • Guests must arrive in a personal vehicle; walkups cannot be accommodated.
Can't take a Disney bus. Can't take a taxi or an Uber. Can't walk to the lot. Must drive your own car. Sure, there are lots of people who drive their cars to WDW, but there are many more who do not. There is nothing about this grand opening that speaks to it being an event intended for the tourist crowd.

After just seeing a video of the opening day, no wonder there was long lines. The greatest NBA player himself Michael Jordan was there for the grand opening
