Earl of Sandwich

We didn't have reservations for dinner this evening, so I convinced my family to check out Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney! They have amazing sandwiches and good prices, so it seemed like a good solution.

For my dinner I got the Full Montagu (Roasted beef, turkey, Swiss, sharp cheddar, lettuce, tomato & mustard sauce):

I don't know what it is about this sandwich, but it's absolutely delicious! All the components individually are not what I would normally order - I usually don't choose beef, and I'm not a huge swiss fan either. I only actually found I liked it last time we were here and DH ordered it and I tried a bite! But everything here works together so well, and the mustard sauce is so good. I give the sandwich a 9.5 out of 10.

DH got the Chipotle Chicken Avocado (Grilled chicken, bacon, sharp cheddar, avocado, lettuce & chipotle sauce):

DH commented that it was "delicious" and give it a 9 out of 10.

My mom and dad both had the Original 1762 (Roasted beef, sharp cheddar & horseradish sauce):

my dad asked for his with the horseradish on the side, since he said a lot of places usually overdo it. My mom had hers on the sandwich though, and she said it was the perfect amount. She also commented that the bread was delicious, and they both really enjoyed the sandwich. She gave it an 8 out of 10.

Overall we give Earl of Sandwich a 9 out of 10. I think it is probably my favorite quick service location. I've heard good things about Wolfgang Puck Express, but I only ever ate there on the West Side and believe it or not the pizza I had there was pretty bad. I keep meaning to try the "real" WPE but then I am always drawn in by Earl of Sandwich!

This is my last food review, but stick around for one more post including my "Best of" lists and my analysis of the Tables in Wonderland card!

Earl of Sandwich is, without a doubt, my favourite CS restaurant

Really enjoying your review. Thanks for posting.

I have been DIS-absent for a while - dang real life!

But I have caught up on your reviews. Thank you so much for the Flower & Garden reviews - it's so fun to read about stuff that we haven't done (and sadly probably won't have the opportunity to do anytime soon). I am enjoying all your reviews - so many that I have considered, booked, changed, etc. :rotfl2:

I know what you mean - I haven't done Food and Wine, and probably won't at least within the next few years, but I love reading those reviews and hearing all about the "new" stuff I haven't tried yet!

Tables in Wonderland Analysis

All told, on this trip I saved $112.56 using TiW. This was a 5 day trip for 4 people - and while we split a lot of meals, we did get desserts and alcohol.

The card is now $100 for annual passholders. So just on this one trip it ended up saving us money. I had also had the card when I went in February on my own, and on that trip with just me I saved $48.62. So in total TiW has saved me $161.18, or after you subtract the price of the card, $61.18. That's pretty good - but I still have three more Disney trips to go this year, so it's definitely going to pay off!

Bottom line - if you have an annual pass, I think the card is definitely worth buying. If you have an AP I'm assuming you'll visit more than once. But even if it's only twice in the year, if you have more than 2 people in your party and/or you plan to have a drink or two with your meals, it will definitely pay off. This is assuming you have a table service meal once a day, of course!

The "Best" Awards!

All right, at the end of my dining review I thought it would be fun to mention some of the "best" of the trip! This is just my personal opinion, not taking the rest of the family into consideration ;)

Best Overall Table Service Meal

Be Our Guest

It's no contest here. We adored everything about Be Our Guest. The themeing was great, the atmosphere was stunning, the food was delicious, and meeting the Beast was fun. . Highly recommended!

Best Overall Counter Service Meal

Earl of Sandwich

Of course, the Earl wins here. They may "just" be sandwiches, but they are easily the best sandwiches I've had! And at Disney, a $6 sandwich sure sounds like a heck of a bargain.

Best Appetizer

Colosso Nachos - T-REX

The wok fried green beans from Yak and Yeti came close here, but T-REX's nachos edged them out. These were probably the best nachos I've ever had. They were absolutely loaded with stuff and had lots of yummy cheese. My family is still talking about these nachos!

Best Entree

Scallops and Shrimp in Puff Pastry at Be Our Guest

This was so delicious. The sauce was fantastic, and the portion wasn't too huge that I felt stuffed afterward. Great flavors and they even had no problem making it for me without mushrooms.

Best Dessert

Chocolate Cannoli Cake from Mama Melrose

Let's just say that after having this cake, I've been ordering chocolate cake everywhere I go in the hopes that something will live up to this. It was chocolatey, moist, and the cannoli filling was very good and evened it out from becoming TOO chocolatey.

Best Drink

Butterbeer - Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Islands of Adventure

I almost didn't put this, since it's not Disney. But if I'm being honest, the best thing I had to drink all week (including alcohol!) was definitely butterbeer. They got this just right. Aside from the taste being incredible, if you're a Harry Potter fan there is nothing like sitting in Hogsmeade drinking a butterbeer.

Best Service

Kevin from Mama Melrose

Kevin has clearly worked there for a long time, and he knows his stuff. We experienced some great service on this trip - Neil from Rose and Crown was a very close second in this category. But Kevin is just fabulous. He is able to make some great recommendations, and goes above and beyond. When we heard we were going to be splitting entrees, he had them serve the meal on two separate plates. This was the only place that did that. And he provided the Disney magic, calling my mom and I "Princess" throughout the meal. Thank you, Kevin!

Best View

Illuminations from Rose and Crown

I think we got lucky with our seats here, but we were right against the railing and had literally the perfect view of Illuminations. Rose and Crown actually beats out the Wishes Dessert Party in this category - while that's a great view too, Rose and Crown gave us the advantage of having the best view while still sitting at our table eating!

Best Flower and Garden Booth

Hanami - Japan

We loved so many of the Flower and Garden booths, but I think I have to say Japan was our favorite. Both the frushi and the seafood dish were outstanding.

Thanks for finishing up the reviews, love the 'best of' idea :thumbsup2

Really enjoyed reading along with your reviews and thanks also for the figures on how much you saved with TIW. We are seriously considering buying it this year since we have two further trips planned in the next year.

Should not have read this while hubby's making dinner. :upsidedow

I think I need to get to Yak and Yeti and just do the appetizers. Yum!

I like the idea of a "best of" list. Not least because I always appreciate review since it makes information stick better in my brain. :p

Thanks for taking the time to write this up. :)

Thank you! You're in luck, because I'm about to post a link to my newest dining review!

And you must try that curry! I saw it in someone else's dining review ages ago and had been dying to try it for so long - it did not disappoint!
