The trip of 2 Birthdays, 3 Resorts, and 79 Pins ~ Update 8/14

Loving that review of the lobster and crab at Fultons! I am from the east coast of Canada originally (now live in Ontario) and my absolute favorite thing to eat ever is lobster! :thumbsup2

It looked delish!!:goodvibes

-I wonder how much they charge for that footstool. Like, seriously.
-That is one HUGE burger.
-Nah, I don’t consider sleeping in two beds weird. You gotta do what you gotta do!
-Oh, I want that bread in my tummy NOW. Your posts always make me starving.
-I’m so glad you enjoyed your meal! I’m not a seafood fan, but I’m glad it was fabulous. I could go for one of those cookie sundaes though…
-Day 1 sounded pretty awesome!

* You may have been better off taking the bus than the boat! I love the boat because it's such a nice ride, but it definitely takes awhile. Even without waiting I feel like the boat ride itself was 20-25 minutes. It might have been shorter, but it certainly felt that long at least!
* Yay to hear good things about Fulton's! We are both huge crab lovers so we eventually need to eat here. I think I would've ordered exactly what you did.
* I completely hear you on the menu prices while you're not on the dining plan. Even if I know that I budgeted money it's still really hard for me to order what I want and not base it on prices. It's why I love the dining plan and why I'll be strongly considering it next time we stay on property (our next trip is off-property so we don't have a choice!). Of course, the free dining plan is the best option ;)

Day 2

It's no surprise I did not want to get out of bed. The alarm went off at 8:00, and I think we finally got moving around 9. We dressed in our swimsuits, complete with DH's new Rash Guard/Sunblock shirt (recall May 2010 where he accused me of trying to give him skin cancer because I wanted to swim the whole time), and our new water shoes. I did not take my phone or my camera with me so I won't have pictures until dinner time.

We got to the food court and had breakfast. I had the kid's mickey waffles with sausage, and DH had some kind of platter and grits. I think the kid's little waffles taste better. I used jelly on my waffles because syrup tends to upset my stomach, and I didn't want to deal with that. It was a pretty good breakfast. The food court was crowded, but managable. There were some good people-watching opportunities. DH and I came to the conclusion that the lady next to us beats her husband :lmao: We also saw Mr. Bean's twin, pregnant brother.

After we were done eating, we made our way to the bus stop. DH asks if we're going to Blizzard Beach. This is how it went:

Him: Are we going to Blizzard Beach?
Me: That was the plan--do you want to go to Blizzard Beach?
Him: I don't care.
Me: Well if you had a preference what would you do?
Him: Well isn't Typhoon Lagoon right across the street?
Me: It is close, I just chose Blizzard Beach and maybe be can hop over later. Would you rather go to Typhoon Lagoon?
Him: I like it better, why don't you wanna go there?
Me: Well the pool beats me up. (and also the chlorine gives me a 3 week sore throat since I apparently can't hold my breath right with the waves)
Him: Well I like that.
-----The Typhoon Lagoon bus comes and a TON of people get in line---
Me: Seems like that's the place to go--looks like it'll be crowded.
Him: So you don't want to go there?
Me: I don't want to get on that bus. If another one comes before the Blizzard Beach bus, then it's meant to be.
----The next bus pulls up..... Typhoon Lagoon

So I lost. The only thing I could think of along the ride was the sore throat I was going to get. I think it's a combo of water getting up my nose at the end of the slides, the waves at the pool. Every time we go to Typhoon Lagoon I get it, but since Blizzard Beach has a nice tame wave pool, I can handle it there.

Going off on a tangent for a minute--when did I get too old to handle a good wave? My favorite water park in the world was River Country. Nothing will ever take the place of River Country in my heart. I will forever have amazing memories of my father and I there, and can still see where my parents would sit while I went on Slippery Slide Falls time after time. They would call me in for a break when they saw my swim turn to a weak doggy paddle because they knew I was getting tired. After they closed, Typhoon Lagoon was my park of choice. I loved riding those waves, but now, at 29--they just kick my booty. I feel battered after I get out of that pool, and DH thinks it's amazing. Maybe if I were taller it would be different :confused3

If you have read my May reports in the past, they have all included this sore throat that I'm speaking about. Complete misery, and last year's lasted for 3 weeks after we got back. I did research to see that I had chemically burned my throat with the chlorine. The one year I can still remember how miserable I was at Chefs de France and at Akershus. Last year I had a combo of dehydration and the sore throat and I had to take my Yachtsman meal to go and hop a cab back to Kidani. Who doesn't finish their filet at Yachtsman?? A sick little girl for sure!

Anyway, this was all going through my head on the bus. I tried to stay positive and remember that it was his trip too! So we got there, found a chair, and he wanted to head to the Crush and Gusher. You know... the one that makes your swimsuit insert into places that it shouldn't?? :rotfl: Yeah, that one. We chose the Banana lane and rode together. Always an adventure. Next we did some of the raft slides, including the big family raft ride--I do love that one!! After that, I decided that I simply couldn't do the body slides, and that it was pool time.

DH was loving it. I had lost my headband and hair tie--found both. I was desperately trying to keep holding my nose so that I had no inhaling accidents. There were 2 times that I definately inhaled a few drops--it made me nervous, and I was over the pool. It was a nice day, and I was trying to enjoy the water, but I couldn't help but wish I was at Blizzard Beach, or even at the POR quiet pool.

My throat was itching and burning, so I was about done. I played a different angle that didn't make it sound like I was rushing him. What's for lunch?? Do you want to eat here? Earl of Sandwich? Go to Epcot? Typhoon Lagoon has Shrimp and fries, and I could have gone for that--but I knew as soon as I said "Earl" that he was out of the pool. He loves Earl. He says very nonchalant, "We can go to Earl." Success!!

As we were exiting the pool, we watched a mother in panic. She lost one of her little boys. The father, and other son stood with her, and she just kept screaming at the CM to find her son. All she could tell them is that he had a blue swim hat on, but neither parent looked for the child. She just screamed and cried, and he just stood there. Although traumatic, I feel like one of the parents should have been looking??

It gave us a "what would you do" topic. When we're in Disney, we ask each other what we would do in certain parenting situations. I dunno if we'll ever have kids, but I at least like to know if we're even on the same page. We discussed what happened, went to our chair, dried off, started to walk towards the exit, and we again, see the mother in panic. There was a good 15 minute span, and the parents weren't looking?!? I don't get it. In case you were wondering--DH and I decided one parent would look, and one would stay put and tell a CM. I hope the little boy is okay.

We stopped in the gift shop. I love the water park shops--they have pretty dresses. I didn't find anything I HAD to have, so we left. We got to our bus stop and talked to an older couple celebrating their 50th anniversary. It was their first trip! They were so sweet, and I enjoyed talking with them. She loved the idea of a split stay, and said they wanted to come back in the fall. I really, really enjoyed them.

We got back to the resort and somehow decided that we wanted to eat right that second. DH wanted a nap and although he wanted Earl, he didn't feel like changing, then traveling to DD. So food court it was! How is it that we didn't eat at a food court for years, then we eat there 3 times in 24 hours??

I got Chicken Nuggets and Fries, and he got a regular Bacon Cheeseburger and Fries (not the huge Chipotle BBQ one like the day before). Both were good and did the job. I considered this a better option than traveling to DD. I didn't regret it at all.

We got back to the room, showered the chlorine off, and it was time for a nap!

I'm going to leave it there for now!! Next is dinner.... and yes... I have my camera for that!!!

I'm in! :thumbsup2 Really enjoying your TR.
I think the 79 pins in the title grabbed my eye - a harmless addiction IMO ;)

My sister & I are going to WDW in October - doing a split stay between POR/RoyalRoom and the Poly. We have stayed in the AB section years ago and are really looking forward to staying on the Mansion side.
It will also be our first dining experience at Boatwrights - looking forward to your dining review. :goodvibes
Loved the convo between you two with the water parks - chuckled out loud.
My sister and I are already planning our itinerary to avoid such talks.:rolleyes1
Can't wait for your next installment! :wave2:

What a great way to start off my weekend - just got caught-up on the end of Day One and the beginning of Day Two and have come to realize that you're almost half-way through your WDW TR:sad:

Before we had DD, two beds always meant one for DH and one for me:thumbsup2. Why would anyone let that perfectly good bed go to waste?

Last month when we were staying at WL, I had the bright idea of bussing to DTD (30 minutes) then taking the boat to POFQ so that DD could try a beignet. The boat guy said that it would probably take almost an hour including the wait time for the next boat, which we had just missed. No beignets for us...

Do they heavily chlorinate at BB? Chlorine fumes are pretty harsh and even just the fumes, if you're sensitive, can irritate your eyes and throat. Stay away from indoor pools, Deena.

Loved that you mentioned RC. I hope you don't mind me asking about River Country but, do you have any River Country photos? I'd LOVE to see them. I just love "vintage" WDW photos. I snuck around and took this last month at RC:

Remember these hair dryers?

I think you would really like POR, but I can't argue with an upgrade to Poly. However, I think this will make you switch September to GF or CR. I just see it coming.
There's changes coming...waiting on HRH...we will be visiting GF soon...maybe if she sees the construction in person she'll want GF again :confused3

Before we had DD, two beds always meant one for DH and one for me:thumbsup2. Why would anyone let that perfectly good bed go to waste?

Absolutely, DH & I are used to a King, we don't do a queen well...at the Poly last year, separate beds for sleep :)

Thank you so much for your TR, I will be following!

I'll be at POR Royal Guest Rooms on Thursday, so thanks for the pics, making me so excited! So question, why did you want parterre, high floor? because it's more quiet?

What's funny, is that of all your pics, I was most excited by the cute mickey toiletries (i collect them :)) I've never seen those before, not in POP this past christmas nor at AKL last year. I'm so excited to collect them! So thanks for the pics! Can't wait for more!

-Virginia

Followed you over from the POR thread :goodvibes All caught up and lovin your report :upsidedow What a rough way to start your trip, all that rain. Your report reminds me why I didn't book an ADR with CC guarantee for our first day. Those early flights can take it out of you. Loved seeing all the Royal Room photos - thanks :thumbsup2

Loving your trip report so far! I am fairly new to Dis, but I will admit that the reference to the 79 pins in the title drew me in. My DH and I are going for our honeymoon in October, and I can't wait!

-HA! I wish you had taken a picture of Mr. Bean’s pregnant brother. My hubs and I quote his lines from Love, Actually allll the time.
-Awww that stinks that you lost. And ugh to the sore throat.
-Woohoo! Earl! In all of my trips, I have never been there.
-Aww. No Earl. But food either way.
-And wth. Someone should have been looking for the little boy. Your solution makes the most sense, and it’s what I would have done.

Thanks Janet! At first I thought Pin Trading was unsanitary :rotfl:, but then I got addicted. I used to watch people trade and ask DH if he thought someone sneezed on those, or washed their hands before trading, lol. I don't even think like that now... I'm like OMG they have what I need :lmao:

My youngest DD really got into PIN trading on our last trip. It was a blast. We were trying to find all of the "nerds". We ended up trading for all of them except Chip and Dale. This was in November. So older DD said that Santa had to bring Chip and Dale nerds for Christmas. Well, when Santa went on ebay to buy Chip and Dale, obsession ensued! Youngest DD loves Minnie Mouse and I think Santa bid on almost every single MM pin she could find. Santa is also fanantical about finishing sets. That is VERY bad for pin trading! DD ended up with a stocking full of pins for Christmas (maybe 25?). SO I definitely understand how you ended up with way more than you planned! Stay away from ebay. It is dangerous!

We loved POR when we stayed there in 2010. That was before the rehab and we still loved it. I don't think we can do RR because they don't have the trundles right? I would still like to go back. Unfortunately, my kids feel like we need to try a new place each time (who am I kidding, lol, so do I!).

We loved the boat ride to DD. I will say though, during my past two trips, DD was so crowded it was almost miserable.

GIRL! I followed you over from the wedding boards! I just love to read your reports...they are ADDICTING!!! popcorn::

Aww, that sore throat sounds awful! I know we were at a water park when I was at Disney as a kid... I don't know if it was River Country or Typhoon Lagoon. I was too young to remember it clearly!

Too bad about Earl of Sandwich (I love that place!), but the food court sounds like a nice, convenient option. Can't wait to hear about dinner!

I've been quiet ... that never happens! :rotfl2: But I wanted to let you know that I'm here! And enjoying every minute of your TR!

:wave2:
great report...I dont read many of them...so generic, but yours caught my attention and I cant wait to read more...what fun...:coffee:

Just chiming it to say I am reading and loving your trip report. Ready for more!

Cathy

I'm behind, but I'm caught up!

•I cannot believe those princess rooms! They are gorgeous. The amount of detail in them is insane! I will have to check it out sometime!
•Food court offerings can be so iffy. It really depends on the resort. At least it sounds like POR had a bit of a variety.
•I love Yeehaa Bob! He's great!
•Fulton's sounds like it has a great seafood selection--Will have to try that too!
•Can we have another update soon, please? :flower3:
