The trip of 2 Birthdays, 3 Resorts, and 79 Pins ~ Update 8/14

* Yay, Deena's TR! Haha you crack me up, I love all of your resort changes an shopping! ;) 79 pins?! I hope you bought some vinylmation too! I'm excited to hear about everything, especially the Royal Room at POR, I'm curious to hear how it is.
* Ugh, that rain at the airport sounds like a huge pain. I hate rain like that, but thinking you just got off Kali River Rapids is a good way to deal with that!
* I always think it's funny how much other people don't know about Disney when they think they do. My husband used to know next to nothing, but in the past two years he's had to learn a lot to keep up with me! Now he's at the point where, the other day, he comes home from work and tells me that one of his coworkers was talking about how much they liked Disney. But they were talking about it like it was only one big park and not four separate ones - at least my DH now realizes what an error this is! And when we went down with a large group of his family, they would say things like, "When are we going to Disney World?" while we were in Hollywood Studios! Haha they meant MK, but sometimes I forget not everyone knows as much about Disney as I do!
* I love POR. I think it's just such a beautiful resort, it's definitely my favorite place to stay (though I've never stayed deluxe so I don't have much to go on!). But for the price I think it can't be beat, personally. Sounds like they were really on the ball at check-in too!
* Don't worry, we took the wrong bridge when we were going to our room too! Except we were dragging all of our luggage with us (I had a luggage incident once so now I pretty much keep it with me at all times if possible, hence not using the ME luggage option). We ended up walking completely out of our way with all that luggage, it was such a pain! And I was even looking at the map! :lmao:
* Wow, I love love love the decor in the Royal Room at POR! I kind of wish they would do all of the rooms like that, as the inside decor at the regular rooms isn't much to speak of. And the carpet, that is just too cute!
* Looking forward to hearing what you ate at the food court! That was unfortunately the only disappointing meal I had on my honeymoon, but normally the food court there is pretty good. I got a chicken sandwich which was just plain and boring. Should've ordered pasta, I've heard their pasta is super tasty!

I'm probably close to my picture limit, and I have to order lunch for my company... so I'll take a little intermission for now! I wanted to make sure Pas130 got to see the room!! She'll be there next week![/COLOR]
Thanks Deena. Bree is on my lap and SOOOOOOOO excited! So am I :cloud9:

Loving reading your TR. I never did get started on mine :rotfl2:

You can do a Dec PTR :bitelip:

Our first onsite was Dixie Landings in '96 and our DD's first onsite was POR (Dixie Landings, RIP) in '01. The landscaping still is beautiful and the room looks so fresh and cute. I love how you thought you knew the way, but then had to take a peek at your map, LOL! I love feeling like the boss at WDW, too but I have to admit, I've been known to forget the order of the countries at Epcot:rolleyes1

Did you order lunch yet? Haven't they eaten by now? I need to find out how you liked the food court and what you ordered.

-She didn’t know about ADRs?! I think I’m having a heart attack.
-Oh, what a pretty lobby… BUT at least you were prepared for it.
-Ha! I laughed at your sneaky map looking.
-Omigosh omigosh I love, love, love (see what I did there?!) that room. LOVE it! Thank you so much for these pictures. Did you consider stealing the BATB footstool?

Oh Deena I would so stay at POR but now that I need to use the ECV Bob is my voice of reason and staying at BWI does make sense. If I could get him to go for a split stay

We always pooper out on arrival day too, I really should not make any ADRs that day.

Loving reading your TR. I never did get started on mine :rotfl2:

Normally when we get there, we are ready to go... but our flight normally leaves at 9:40am, not 6:35am. I guess that made a huge difference. You have a December PTR to start!

I love the royal room!! We are staying at POR in August (our first time) and I am super excited to see more of the resort from your TR. When I was booking, I got a 30% pin when I called reservations and I explained to my Grumpy for the original price we thought we would be spending prior to surprise pin, we could request a Royal Room. He thought it over and said we did not really "need" to stay there and we could save the 200.00 for something else :sad2: Since this trip is another surprise for our Princess, she would never know that we could have stayed in the Princess room. :rolleyes1

Anyway, I did not put up to much of a fight, since I was just relieved he agreed to go back to Disney so soon after our first and last trip in Dec. 2011. Anyway, can't wait to read more!!

You'll love it--what a great pin code! The money you'll save will be nice for extra spending--but if you come across a little extra.... the RR's are great! It'll be great either way, it's a beautiful resort!

My DH is becoming a wealth of knowledge too!! I think the underlying issue about my "taking the wrong bridge" thing was that I did that last May at Saratoga Springs with our luggage  I didn't do my research (because I booked it about 7 days prior :rolleyes1) and we walked around the whole place, not realizing that the Grandstand was kind of separate and not in the loop. I kind of promised myself I would NEVER let that happen again, lol.

Thanks Deena. Bree is on my lap and SOOOOOOOO excited! So am I :cloud9:

I love that you'll be there for 3 days now! Great change!

Our first onsite was Dixie Landings in '96 and our DD's first onsite was POR (Dixie Landings, RIP) in '01. The landscaping still is beautiful and the room looks so fresh and cute. I've ordered lunch for today, got catering set up twice for next week, set up tomorrow's in the kitchen, sent out 4 communications, then I just ate lunch, lol. I didn't think I had a plan today--but it all happened at once. 9 working days left!!

-She didn’t know about ADRs?! I think I’m having a heart attack.
-Oh, what a pretty lobby… BUT at least you were prepared for it.

No, no clue about ADRs and it was too early for me to handle it. We did consider taking the footstool. I had read that it's been done already, and that they were charging. There was even a little note on the table that said something along the lines of... if you take it... we will charge you. Well DH and I figured we brought enough to spend, and as long as it was under $700 that we would still have enough money to eat for the rest of the trip :rotfl::rotfl2: It really was the cutest thing ever. What I really want is the border with Pascal and Sebastian on it--too cute!! The Cinderella coat hanger rack wasn't too bad either :)

Lunch and a Park

I got a little busy today, but I'm going to try to get another short installment out before I leave! We left the room and went venturing to the main building. When you take the correct bridge--you're there in no time--4 minutes tops. I took some more pictures of Parterre Place:

We went over to the food court, and like I said earlier... we aren't food court people on vacation. I just didn't know what I wanted. I looked the menus over, and one thing really looked good... DH was in line for a burger... we met at a table nearby and here's what we got:

IMG_3021.jpg

IMG_3022.jpg

one more look at that burger
IMG_3023.jpg

Yes, I got the kid's mac and cheese, and it was delicious. I got grapes and applesauce with it, then I got a bag of my favorite kettle chips. Let's be real. If you've ever had that applesauce, you know it's gross. I've had it before, but forgot till I took a bite. The grapes were yum, and I contemplated getting another order of the same--but instead picked at DH's fries. That was a lot of burger and onion ring, but he said it was good--just big.

We left there and spent some time in the gift shop. We normally do this thing the first day where we look at all the merchandise and don't buy anything. Then a day or so later, if we still want it, and haven't found anything better--we get it. So we checked out new merchandise, old merchandise that we were still thinking about from last time, and of course... pins. I told him I wanted Figaro, Flower, and the Electrical Parade for sure. This was when I said we were getting 10 each :lmao: I told him to remember that I wanted those.

We left there and walked out to the busses. I didn't know where I wanted to go. I didn't feel like walking, and I knew we had to be back in time for Fulton's. I thought that Hollywood Studios would be a good place for us since we only do a few things there. I was bummed in the back of my mind, because I had a serious commando plan for the day, and I was too tired to go through with it.

It was the first bus to come, a short ride over, and we were there! First thing's first--I had to purchase a TIW card, and I wanted to see if they could change my last name on my AP. I would say all of that took 15-20 minutes, with the bulk of the issue being the AP. When you purchase stuff, especially in Disneyland, they ID you. My ID and AP don't match and CMs have commented on it, so I thought I would start the trip off on a good note and just have it changed. That was done, and we were on our way!

It didn't take long for us to realize how hot it was. Blah. We worked our way up the street through the shops, shopping along the way. We got a fast pass for Rock n Roller Coaster, went and rode Tower of Terror, went back and saw the Little Mermaid (I love that!), walked through the Animation building--the line was too long for the academy and we have already drawn Minnie, stopped for a bottle of water that we drank in about 45 seconds together, went on Rock n Roller Coaster, looked at the times for Star Tours and TSM and said that we would be better off going back for a nap before dinner. And so we did! Here are some Hollywood Studios photos:

We were back to the room in no time. I set my alarm while DH played with the fireworks on the headboard. I kept feeling the comforter because it feels like broken in blue jeans, and then I passed out almost immediately.

I'll leave it there for now! Thanks everyone for reading along!

Thank you! I feel like I'm right there with you! (Other than the ToT part:scared1:)

Can't wait to find out where you really went for dinner and...did DH ever stop fiddling with the headboard fireworks....and did you actually get up when the alarm went off...and did DH remind you about those pins and...

I could Tempt Bob to stay at POR showing him that burger. :rotfl: Food does it every time!

We usually take early flights then arrive by then it is lunch time so we eat. When we were younger it would be off to the parks but our last 3 trips 2007, 2009, and this year after lunch we end up taking a nap. Embrace your youth, Getting "Old" is no fun:sad2:

Our first onsite was POFQ back when POR was Dixie Landings and POFQ was simply Port Orleans not long after it first opened and the grounds still look so fresh and beautiful.

DHS is Bob's 2nd favorite park so we spend a lot of time there just walking around.

Those rooms look so nice! I'd definitely like to stay there eventually. Maybe if I take the kids for a few nights next June.

I used to be able to land, check-in, and head straight for the parks. Now I need a nap first! I think it's because of Lily. Flying with her is tiresome.

Enjoying this immensely! Posting the pictures as you tell the story of your trip is great.

When we fly we take an early plane and get there around noon. We have lunch, unpack and then usually crash. After a nap, we rally!

Looking forward to more TR tomorrow popcorn::

Well the only part I can tell you for now is.... he never stopped playing with the fireworks :rotfl2: I can see the same is going to happen at Disneyland Hotel in October. He truly loved the room and all the features!

I would say that DHS and AK are tied for first for us, Water Parks and DD second, and MK and Epcot are tied for third. We love them all though! I do think naps improve our trips--if we're cranky, it's not making anything better!

When Lily is old enough to lovvvve princesses... you'll have to go there, lol!! I'm sure flying with 2 kids can be quite tiring!!

Hi Sarah  We rally too! (if we can get up, lol!) I'm going to have another installment up very soon!!

(I tried posting this last night, but kept getting the timed-out message. Grr! Thank goodness I saved it lol)

I know I saw the pics of the room on facebook already, but I still stopped to look at each one on here. I LOVE all the little details. The magic lamp as a faucet? Adorable. I want one. (And I wonder how many of those footstools have 'walked off'? :lmao:)

And POR is BEAUTIFUL! I've only seen a handful of pics, but man, I kinda wish we stayed there instead of CBR!

First Night Dinner and Downtown Disney
Dinner reservations were at 7:30 at Fulton's. I had set my alarm for 6:00pm. I vaguely remember the alarm going off and hitting snooze. Apparently it happened a few times, because when I looked at my phone at one point, it said 6:45  I wanted to jump up, but my body wasn't having it. DH must have heard me freak out, because he rolled over, looked at me and asked what time it was. I told him we had 45 minute to get up, get ready, and be at Fulton's. He said--no problem--we have a boat remember?

I also wanted to add that part of the reason he wanted POR and Poly is that they are guarunteed queen beds, lol. We have a queen at home and sleep HORRIBLE in it. On vacation, I have always requested a King, and have pitched a fit if we couldn't get one--and we always do :goodvibes I believe in good sleep on vacation! Well in January when we were at Paradise Pier in Disneyland, we were upgraded to one of their theme park view suites--but it was 2 queens. We took it because of the suite, slept separately, and have never slept so well! Now he kind of wants to be separate, and I'm all for it. I have a brace for my arm for when I sleep, and I like to be all stretched out anyway. All is good and I don't consider it that weird.

As late as we were, I still wanted a shower. Showers refresh me and I needed it. We got ready pretty quickly and were out the door. There were no parks open late this night, so I knew we would hang in DD.

We got over to the boat dock, and there was a good 40+ people waiting in line. What in the world? We have stayed at Saratoga Springs and Old Key West that have the boat to DD, and have never been more than 5-7 deep. This was absurd. We would never make it on the boat. Plan B--get to the bus. We went out to the bus, and there was a ton of people waiting for the DD bus too. The bus came right away and we were arrived at DD about 7:40.

We were late. For some reason I thought I put a credit card down on Fulton's, so my anxiety was getting crazy. I couldn't remember the rules about when you got charged, how late you had to be, etc etc. So we rush over there. This will be our first time here. I have heard mixed reviews, but if there's one thing I know--I love crab. Anywhere that claims to be a "Crab House" is where I want to be. Since we have always done a dining plan, we've never made it here. Well here we are.

The lobby was full and LOUD. There were clumps of people who were in the middle of the walkway who just stood there so others couldn't get through. After wiggling and excusing my way to the podium, DH's claustrophia was hitting a new high. I checked us in and got a buzzer. There were plenty of seats around the wall, but the groups who wouldn't let you by were overwhelming and just right out in the open. I could see the look in his eyes that he was going to freak out. The noise in there was unreal. I was nervous our wait was going to be long because we were 20 minutes late.

The buzzer went off in about 5 minutes. We were guided upstairs to the Constellation Room and sat at a water view table. The room was neat and I like the view, however it was loud in here too! Maybe it was just the crowd, but it's all I could keep thinking about. I was possibly just cooling down from being annoyed and rushed. I had to keep an open mind--crab was coming, and I was starving.

IMG_3037.jpg

I swore I wouldn't forget our server's name, but I did. She was tall, pretty, dark hair, with an accent--something tells me it started with an S, but I could be wrong. She started us with 2 iced teas, 2 waters, and some bread while we looked over the menu. The off-menu special was Canadian Lobster. You could get 2 tails, a tail and King Crab, or a tail and Snow Crab. She said it was much sweeter than the Maine. Intriguing.

IMG_3036.jpg

She also brought out crackers with crab dip along with the bread. I'm not adventurous when it comes to dips and items I haven't read about on a menu, but this was pretty good! If I see ingredients I'm not fond of on a menu, I will immediately turn my nose up to it :snooty: but I decided to give it a go anyway, and I'm glad I did.

Looking at the menu with TIW vs DxDDP is a different story--and it took us a bit to decide. I had put plenty of money aside for our meals, however when you look at prices when you're paying, it's very different than when you know it was 100% taken care of already on the dining plan. It's all mental, but worth discussing. DH originally wanted the ribs, but somehow realized he was in a seafood restaurant and went with the Seafood Sampler. I was mulling over just getting Snow Crab, or going with the Snow Crab/Canadian Lobster combo. The price difference was beating me up. As I'm having a conversation with myself in my head, I told myself that I would not let pricing affect my ordering throughout this whole trip. I was mearly on Day 1 and I would not let a dollar amount attack my brain for 6 days. I was on vacation, I worked hard to get here, and I would order what I wanted. Yes ma'am, I will have the Canadian Lobster and Snow Crab with red potatoes--thank you.

IMG_3038.jpg

IMG_3039.jpg

Oh boy did I make the right decision. Every detail of this meal was amazing. As I was eating, no loud noises could annoy me, I was only thinking about how good it was. The lobster was the best I have tasted. I let DH have a nip of it, and he said, although his dinner was amazing--that he wishes he ordered the Canadian lobster. The potatoes were cooked to perfection, the crab, nice and sweet! All the stress of getting here was so worth it, and this has just become a must-do. Sorry Captain's Grille and Cape May... I've found a new home for crab.

And it was time for dessert. We decided to split one, and we decided on the Toll House cookie sundae. This was a pretty good decision. The only thing that could have made it better, was if I had one of my own :rotfl2: We destroyed it, and were very happy!

IMG_3040.jpg

I just found my receipt, and it said our server's name was Jeny. That doesn't ring a bell, but that's what it says, lol. The service was great, the food was wonderful, and we will be back here in October!!

IMG_3044.jpg

After we settled the check, we ventured out to DD. It was crowded for a Thursday night. We went into the Lego store, World of Disney, Mickey's Pantry, Basin, Arriba's Brother's, and it was all just crowded, so we were about done. DH wanted to stop in the pin store, which I was not prepared to deal with on Day 1.

We got into pins a little late, and if it's one thing I'm into... it's the Orange Bird. The Orange Bird is the official mascot of the Resort Changers group. There was a set of 5 Orange Birds in the 2011 Hidden Mickey collection. Of course, it's now 2012, and I assumed they just discontinue the old. My plan was to just buy a lame set and try to find the Orange Birds and trade.

So DH collects the AP passholder keys and has the one from Disneyland, so he wanted the WDW ones. We got those, and I picked up the TRON pin and the Minnie dressed at Tink. When we were at the register, we saw the 2011 Hidden Mickey pins in a case. I asked why they were in there if it was 2011, and the lady told me that they're still selling them, and they're in the blue packages. :sad2: This is where it all went down hill. I picked 2 packages up, paid, and we were out the door. We were barely out the door, and I had to sit down to open them. Out of the 4, I got one Orange Bird. I was happy, and now I would have 3 to trade. We went to Guest Services to check out their pin book, and I traded one for something I liked better. I don't remember what it was, but I liked it, lol.

We were tired. It had been a long day, our bellies were full, and felt like we should just go back to the room. We left guest services and walked all the way over to the boat dock by Paradiso 37. This was habitual. The other 2 DD resorts we stayed at docked here. To be honest, we had never been to another boat dock. When we looked at what line to get into, we saw it only said SSR and OKW. I can't express how embarrassed I am as a well seasoned WDW goer, and constand Diser, that I walked way out of my way to the wrong boat dock. I was ashamed at myself and apologized to DH. We took the boat that runs from PI to the Marketplace, then hopped over to the Port Orleans line. I didn't know such existed--but now I do. The line again was longgggg. We had to wait for 2 boats, and they sure weren't speedy. We could have went up to the bus, but I wanted to take the boat. It stopped at POFQ on the way, and we were back home at POR. DH went to get the mugs from the room, and I went in and listened to Yehaa Bob for a few minutes. He's a trip, and I can see why people hire him for their weddings and events. We filled our mugs, got back to the room, tried to talk about a plan for the next day, but were still a bit undecided. I declared that we were getting up, going to the food court for breakfast, going to Blizzard Beach for the day, then dinner at Boatwright's, then Magic Kingdom or Epcot. Soon after that, I was under the covers and sleeping like a baby. Of course, after I watched LED fireworks a few times princess:

Well the only part I can tell you for now is.... he never stopped playing with the fireworks :rotfl2: I can see the same is going to happen at Disneyland Hotel in October. He truly loved the room and all the features!
Oh the kiddos would be like that...ugh.witched to Poly...trying to find DHs love for WDW again...:sad2:

I would've been freakin out if I ran late too....
(I tried posting this last night, but kept getting the timed-out message. Grr! Thank goodness I saved it lol)

I'm ready for more now, please! ;)

It's taken me 30min to quote...still not getting it right...I'll just await an update ;)

I can't wait to hear about Blizzard Beach!

I totally hate when DTD is crowded. It kind of ruins it for me. It feels too much like home. Ever been to Times Square on a Saturday night? Blech! Too many tourists.

Nice start to the trip report. I'm subscribing. BTW, as a big time Disneyland veteran (who has to let our family's AP's expire for a year in order to get to WDW...) I do hope you enjoy this upcoming trip out here. Carsland looks awesome!

Keep up the good work!

Enjoying it....immensely! :coffee:

I'm glad!! I'm wishing I was back there!!

I am a Mac/Cheese queen. I find it essential! Next time I will get 2 orders the first time I go up there. We did love POR way more than CBR, but there's always NEXT TIME!! I think all the little details were super fun. I also liked the Navy Sparkle/Gold bathroom. Perhaps a summer project at the Luv house??

I think you would really like POR, but I can't argue with an upgrade to Poly. However, I think this will make you switch September to GF or CR. I just see it coming.

I can't wait to hear about Blizzard Beach!

The last time I was in Times Square, I had diapers on :rotfl: I do NOT like crowds, which seems kind of odd that I vacation at Disney properties, lol. I guess there's so much to do that you can just remove yourself from the crowded part and find something else to do!!

Nice start to the trip report. I'm subscribing. BTW, as a big time Disneyland veteran (who has to let our family's AP's expire for a year in order to get to WDW...) I do hope you enjoy this upcoming trip out here. Carsland looks awesome!

Keep up the good work!

Welcome!! Thanks very much!! We LOVED our first trip to DL. There was a lot in refurb (Fantasmic!, Matterhorn, SS Columbia), and so much being built, that we must take another trip before ours expire!! Carsland looked amazing when we were there--I can't wait to see it up close!!

Joining in for the fun! We fell in love with POR last year and can't wait to go back! Great start to your TR so far ... :wave2:
