The Tower Of Terror

Would it help to know that your elevator rolls into a cage attached to a track? Basically, consider it a vertical roller coaster that goes in 2 directions.

I did know that, and I know that Disney rides are perfectly safe. I'm more so scared of the feeling it'll induce and that it won't be immediately over if I dislike it.

Its the best, one of my favorites! Its not that bad, I am sure you will love it if you give it a try. Have fun!!!

Thanks for the encouragement Lisa!! I'll have to try it and scream my head off during the drops. I'll be proud of myself for finally doing it!

No dice. I was incorrect. It must be my coping mechanism for the ride. LOL. You do go into a separate cage. But it is operated by cables.

It's one of my DD's favorite rides, so I have had to endure it many times. One thing I like about it is that there are handles on either side of your seat, so you can hang on. I like that much better than the rides that only give you a lap bar. The handles don't keep you from having that dropped-stomach feeling, but it makes me feel like I have some control over how high I go.

I hate to be the voice of the haters, but wow I hate TOT. I've been on it once (at Disneyland CA), and you will never, ever get me on to it again. (and for reference, I love a good coaster, the bigger the better). But free-falls and I do not get a long and this was so many freefalls, coupled with the fact that you couldn't see when or where they would be starting? Of forget it. I about had a heart attack on ToT. I was clinging to my friend who had talked me on to it, and sobbing hysterically, I nearly peed my pants. Also for reference, I am 42 yrs old, and everyone else in our car was a college student. They must have thought I was completely nuts! lol. Am I glad I set aside my fears and tried it and have experienced it? I honestly cannot say YES to that question.

I will definitely be holding on for dear life during the drop portion!

My hubby would totally agree with kangamomma, but it's one of my favorites! I'm a huge fan of the queue and setup, and the ride parts with that drop-stomach sensation is almost too much for me, but I love the excitement of it anyway. My daughter is freaked out by the theming but thinks the ride is no big deal and fun while less intense than coasters.

Far be it from me to discourage you, but since you specifically mention disliking the stomach-drop feeling, I don't think ToT will be your cup of tea. I LOVE the ride and encourage you to do it at least once, but to me, after the buildup, all the ride IS is that drop sensation.

I'm hoping I enjoy it! Our party will consist of 8-10 people depending on who all decides to ride, so hopefully if I freak out, not many people I don't know will witness it!

I'm scared of that, and also that I'll get the most intense drop cycle! I'm inevitably going to go on eventually, and seeing as it'll be on the last day of our trip (rather than the first ride of the trip on our last one), I might be feeling more confident!

Hi all!

I'm a Florida native and teenager who has been to Disney a countless amount of times. I'm a bit of a ride chicken, or I at least have a fear of the unknown when it comes to rides. I have tried (and will do) every thrill ride at Universal with the exception of the Hollywood Rip Ride Rock It & Dr. Doom's Fear Fall. A couple of weeks ago I finally tried both the Dragons and the Hulk for the first time and had a blast! I have also done (and love) every thrill ride at Disney, other than Tower of Terror. I have told myself I would try it the next time I went every time I've been since meeting the height requirement, but walking onto Sunset Boulevard and seeing the looming tower makes my heart beat out of my chest. I've been through the pre-show area and taken the chicken exit more times than I'd like to admit. I LOVE the theming of the pre-show as I'm a fan of the The Twilight Zone. I just cannot bring myself to ride it! I hate the feeling of my stomach dropping with a passion. I would love to experience the ride, but I really want to know what kind of sensation the drops create.

My mom (well she claims she was tricked by us) rode this and never again. It's my niece's favorite ride at Disney and the only one she won't ride alone because it's "spooky" for her at least. I don't get that stomach in my throat feeling, and I have been on numerous types of drop rides and if anything the lead up to the drops, make me "jump" My mom can't ride any type of thrill ride, she gets sick way too easily, but the fact you rode Hulk and the Dragons ride at Universal, you can do this one without getting sick. I went through a period for 2-3 years where I wouldn't ride any type of thrill ride, but that was because I saw a lady fall to her death at Kings Island from a ride. (her mistake, she was drunk) One regret I had was missing out on those experiences and it took a drop ride to get me over that hump to realize what I was missing. Try it once, it's a cool ride.

if you don't like what i refer to as the "tickle in your tummy" feeling or "airtime" or "negative g's" then i would not recommend tower of terror at all!
that feeling is one of the main points of the ride.
you get that feeling MAJORLY and personally i absolutely LOVE it!
that feeling is what i want on thrill rides like drop towers and tall roller coasters and TOT delivers!

i'd suggest sticking to youtube videos to experience the twilight zone theme of the ride.

All I can say is that IMO it is the most fun ride in WDW - everyone just seems to laugh and have great time

I plan to try it on my next trip next month!

I hate hate hate it. I ride it because my oldest likes it. A little kid beside me told me to count the drops, apparently it's never more than 10. It helped some.

I haven't felt that feeling in quite a while, possibly because I go to theme parks so often. I just know that when I've felt it, it's been uncomfortable. I may enjoy it now that I'm older though, so I plan to try it at least once!

If you dislike drops and can handle it, I should be able to do it at least once!...I hope. :scared1:

I hate the actual ride section of Tower of Terror, and immediately afterwards vow to never go on it again, but then a few hours pass and I want to ride it again because the whole theme and experience is so good.
If you can handle the Hulk you can handle Tower of Terror definitely, I nearly collapsed in that indoor queue section of the Hulk my legs were shaking that much.
