The Top Three Meet Dis-nee (CMO Contest, Part Three)

Thanks for the tip! Our plan is to experiment on some poster board first to see which style and how much of each color to use ... or we may just hire someone to do it for us...we found a "friend of a friend" who is starting her own business again (now that kids are grown)

Marshay, you might want to go to Home Depot or Lowes (which ever you prefer) and see if they have any scrap or busted pieces of sheetrock. A lot of times they'll sell these at a fraction of the price. Trying your paint technique on the sheetrock might give you a better idea of what it would look like. It will also give you an opportunity to perfect what you're trying to do.

Since it seems like many of us scrap on this thread, should we start our own scrapbook thread just to show off our Disney or other crafts/pages? That way we won't be going OT and possibly boring those folks who aren't interested?

Scrappers or non-scrappers, please let me know. My feelings won't be hurt.

Sorry for taking us OT with DVC and scrapbooking...I'll try to refrain (even suggested above that we do a separate thread...) It's just that in this down time when there isn't much CMO stuff, it's hard to stay on-topic.

Since I am one of the few men that try to regularly post on this thread, let me just say to keep the scrapbooking and other ideas coming. One of these days my DW might just decide to do something with all of our pictures from past trips.

I know this started out being a Disney Dream CMO thread, and it still is. I think we all have a part of us invested in this contest whether or not we didn't participate, or made it to the Top 20, Top 10, or Top 3. As I stated many posts ago, it's not too often you can find such a unique group of people from ALL WALKS OF LIFE and all across the country that have one major thing in common. That thing being the love of Disney. After all, we do need enough filler to hold us over until April 17th .

Hey, Cat and anyone else going to Disney Land or Disney World in the next few weeks: PM me if you want to consider a Photopass share.

I would, but I'm not going until the end of September. I haven't heard anyone else mention it, but is anybody going to WDW in Aug - Sept for the free dining?

Ok, since this is the Dis-nee CMO thread, I do have several questions for both Justin & Tripp.

Justin
1. I think I saw several posts back that you like to read books about Disney. Are they any particular ones that you would recommend? I have read Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination by Neal Gabler. I really enjoyed it. I started to read Walt Disney: Hollywood's Dark Prince : A Biography by Marc Eliot but I lost interest in it real quick. Right now I'm working on How to Be Like Walt: Capturing the Disney Magic Every Day of Your Life by Pat Williams & Jim Denney. If anyone else has read any good ones, feel free to share.

Justin & Tripp
1. Since you can only take 3 other people with you, who are you taking with you?

2. If given the opportunity, do you plan on giving the DIS-nee family a big shout out?

3. Do you plan on wearing a LGMH so you can represent the whole DIS Board?

Hey DISgeeks and Marshay, we could add Photo Pass sharing, Disney Book Club, and Fridge Swap to our thread title too!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Thanks for remembering me! It didn't look like the parks were all that busy. How were the crowds and wait times?

It's been croweded, and HOT! (Yay coldfront comin/here). This is when parts of Florida have THEIR spring break.

These pics are deceptive: LMA was first show of the day, and I was directly behind the "reserved" area, which you can see was empty, and I was on the aisle. But believe me lots of folks there if I had turned around and snapped one of the audience.

The pirates was from the Pirates and Princess party, and it was surprisingly small. Reminded me more of the original E-ride nights when you had small numbers.

Newsflash...WDW...

Hey, if I'm not mistaken, aren't those the 2 characters that are traveling the World (WDW that is) with Cat? Wait a minute. Where's Cat? I hope they didn't ditch her back at the MK to go do some exploring on their own.

ATTENTION: AnnDisneyFan!

Grass Roots in the House just for YOU!

Tigger was thrilled to see your favorite 60's band, and bring these pics to you!

I was going to tape it for you, but they announced that the Grass Roots requested no taping. And being a rule-follower myself, I just couldn't do it, even for YOU!

This just in (justin)...

A newly discovered still photo from the Magic Kingdom indicates that the same 2 characters were seen dancing with 8 more characters later in the evening!

Please send Walt Disney Security any updates if you've seen these 2. Security doesn't think they are dangerous - just bad dancers!

Hey Disneyfalcon, I think Justin just flamed us. :goodvibes

Oh, no! I didn't mean to "flame" you! I was just answering Marshay's post. :)

I love all the directions this thread goes and I echo your remarks about keeping the crafting and other ideas coming. I think part of what has allowed us to connect so much is that we've veered from the original topic enough to really discover some wonderful things about each other. If we're really building a community here, we should be able to share about all sorts of things!

:wave2: Good morning Justin! I was kidding you know! We are truely an eclectic group of people, aren't we?

Thanks for the questions, madbrad!

1) As for Disney books . . . yeah, I have a lot and the list I would recommed is pretty lengthy. (For today's purposes, and since it is early and I have to get to work soon, this will be a partial, rambling list!)

I have read the biographies by both Neal Gabler and Michael Barrier ("The Animated Man").

I enjoyed "How to be like Walt" by Pat Williams and "The Gospel According to Disney" because of my work at the church.

I have the three "Imagineering Field Guides" and enjoy them as well (When is one coming out for the Studios? Anyone?).

"Be Our Guest" by the Disney Institute is a great piece on customer service, and "The Imaginneering Way" is one of the most creative and fun books to have lying around.

Jason Surrell's books on The Haunted Mansion, Pirates, and The Disney Mountains are wonderful for some back story and fantastic photos.

The two books I would most highly recommend for fans of the parks, however, are "Designing Disney" by John Hench with Peggy van Pelt and "Walt Disney Imagineering - A Behind the Dreams Look at Making the Magic Real" by The Imagineers. Both are published by Disney Editions and include amazing pictures, original sketches and artwork, and insight from the people who were really there when the decisions were made. "Designing Disney" is a particular delight because John Hench was truly a master of so many design elements and just may have had more of an impact on the parks than any one person outside of Walt himself. To "hear" directly from someone like him is pretty incredible.

Of course there are others, but that's a pretty good starting point for this time in the morning!

:thumbsup2

Yes we are! I know you were kidding, but I always try to be careful, given how many other people read this thread who might not know us the way we do!

:)

Good morning to you too!

Here are a few more answers for you before I head out . . . .

1) This was the hardest part of the process for me thus far. My wife is going and we are taking her sister and my best friend. The trip starts (the 16th) on our 3rd anniversary and they were our maid of honor and best man, so it will be a neat little wedding reunion. I really wanted to take my parents, but there were some other things to consider so we tried to reach a compromise. My folks are still going though. How sweet are they? They're flying themselves down for the week so that they can still see the competitions.

2) If the opportunity presents itself, I'm DEFINITELY planning on giving "y'all" a shout-out! SO, keep watching that site and the updates. I have no idea how much they'll post or what they'll edit out, but I am - without a doubt - going to try to throw some clever and subtle, and some not-so-subtle, greetings your (in the big DISnee sense of the word) way.

3) Well . . . since I had no idea about the Lime Green Mickey Heads until this thread a few pages ago, I still have to look into it! I believe we will have specific wardrobe requirements during the contests, so I don't know if it is possible. I going to try to pick a few up just in case though! (As I mentioned before, I will be sporting a Fleagle CMO pin though!)

Have a great day everyone! I'll try to finally go back an catch up on the several pages I missed yesterday when I get home later tonight. Loved today's pics and updates, Cat!

Until then . . .

:)

Oh no! Cat you are too too much! Seriously funny stuff! "Party In The Car, Party In The Car, Party In The Car.....what what.......Party In The Car...."

By the way, MadBrad you asked where Cat was...my suspicion is that she was "Pole Dancing" :rotfl2: (another reference from Eric's trip report)

Just 1 more little teaser before I sign off for the morning.

Nice work! Great job! (Isn't Marshay near DC? I could be wrong, but I thought she was close to us? Hmmm? )

It's really neat to see all of us spread out across the US and Canada...great visual! :thumbsup2

Good Morning Everyone and thanks for the questions MadBrad. I finally finished everthing I needed to get done before we can leave and will take it easy today and tomorrow. Hey Justin, looks like we will arrive around the same time. I assume David will too, and we'll all be on the same van/shuttle. The shuttle was mentioned on one of my phone calls so I assume that we will not take ME, but I could be wrong.

As far as the questions, my wife and 2 girls will be with me. We already had a short trip planned for the first of May so my wife can attend the International Nanny Conference, so the rest of my family won't make this trip, but will be with us in May.

I am planning to shout out to the Dis, unless they specifically prohibit us from doing that. I'm sure they will go over everything we can and can't do when we arrive.

My Fleagle pin is on my lanyard. I may add a LGMH to it.

We will be wearing CMO T-shirts during the in-park competition, and they have asked each of the Top 3 to be in coat and tie for the announcement on the 22.

Also, building on the earlier questions which I didn't include in the quote, I have read most that were listed by Justin, but some books you may want to add to the Disney Book Club on your shelf include:

"Kingdom Keepers" Ridley Pearson
"Peter and The Starcatchers" Ridley Pearson/Dave Barry
"Peter & The Shadow Theives" Ridley Pearson/Dave Barry
"Peter The Secret of Rundoon" Ridley Pearson/Dave Barry

These are young reader books, but a lot of fun to read.
