The Titanic Exhibit At Foxwoods Casino.

We went to this exhibit when it was in Milwaukee a couple of years ago. LOVED it. The cards of people that we received all survived.

I actually did look up the name of the person who I had - a young mother of a boy and a girl. She had gone off to the middle east, becuase winters were harsh in Detroit - her husband was trying to sell a business and he was going to join them. The wife had tuberculosis, and apparently the winters are harsh with that. For whatever reason, the wife was returning back from the middle east. She died a few years later in her mid-to late 20's. Her duaghter (maybe 2 at the time of the voyage) died in a house fire a few years later (about 6 years old or so.) The son lived a long life, but was hounted about his family's events for his whole life. It was very sad, eventhough they survived.

thanks Dawn, maybe we'll drive down during April vacation. I think my family would enjoy it. A good way to spend an afternoon!

Omgggg..I am so excited I found this thread. I work at this exhibitions an artifact specialist/ greeter . So glad to hear positive reviews.

In case you didn't know we are now open until Oct 3rd. This exhibit was last in Rochester, NY but was put away into storage for a few years. No, we do not know where it is going next.. But it is going somewhere..

If you come, be sure to say hi. Have any questions, feel free to ask and I will answer both here or there.

And , just because I feel like I have to.. A lot of patrons are offended but the lack of artifacts we have. We have to share them with 7 other exhibitions, and we are a small venue. Also, we are going down on a live exhibition partnered with NBC on August 18th, 2010. We are very excited. I know a lot of people think the tickets are pricey, but that money is going towards our future expeditions, so thank you for supporting us and coming out. S:)

You might be a good person to ask this question to...how do different "treasure hunters" get their artifacts? I'm curious because in Ocean City Md, there is a large souvenir shop called Sea Shell City. On the top floor is a free exhibit all about sunken ships and pirates, etc. For years, the owner (can't remember his name but he is apparently well-known) had a number of artifacts from the Titanic and it was so very interesting! He also had framed blown-up newspaper pages from that time all about the voyage, the sinking, and the subsequent congressional hearings. Everything was labeled so carefully, and he really had quite a bit of stuff. I was disappointed this year because he replaced all the Titanic things with a different shipwreck (also White Star Line). The curator who wanders around answering questions said she would tell the owner that she had heard from many people that they miss the exhibit and he would probably eventually put it back up.

But are these wrecks just open to the divers for the taking?? How does that work?

No, most wrecks are NOT open to the taking especially the Titanic. RMS Titanic, Inc is the ONLY company with salvage rights to the Titanic. We are only allowed to salvage from the debris field, and are NOT allowed to touch the ship. When Ballard discovered the wreck in 1985, he put a plaque on the ship for future explorers to see, asking them to respect the ship as a burial ground and not to steal. Because so many people were waiting for the Titanic to be found and those who discovered it were worried treasure hunters would come steal artifacts, they created RMS Titanic, Inc and made it illegal for anyone else to salvage from the wreckage. Most of the exhibits you see that are not owned by RMS, Inc may have artifacts, but they are most likely artifacts that have been donated or replicated. If they went down and salvaged you are basically paying to look at fake or illegal items.

I'm not sure how it works for other ships, though. I think most would be considered a "free for all" site to search through, but they [the treasure hunters] would have to be paying out lots of dough to be able to explore them especially if they are thousands of feet below the ocean.
