I’d requested late check out so we didn’t have to leave the room until 1pm. The plan today was to head over to MK this morning to do a few rides. We were awake at around 8am and once we were dressed it was down to Roaring Forks for our last breakfast, then over to MK on the boat.

We got to MK at a little after 9am and there seemed to be loads of people going in today but it looked quiet at the top of Main Street.

Our first stop was Tomorrow Land and we walked on Buzz followed by Space Mountain. I went on Space Mountain with the kids but as I wasn’t riding I took the chicken exit and went around to the place where they get off the car to wait for them. The Dream Team were at the exit and wanted to know what I was doing. I explained I was waiting for the kids and they said that you had to cross the yellow line of the ride to get a prize so, I wouldn’t be getting one. I said that didn’t matter as the kids would be delighted to get their prize. They were giving away dream ears and both Aodhan & Niamh were pleased to get a set and our only dream this year.

When we got off Space Mountain, Niamh wanted to go on Indy Speedway so that’s where we went next. This ride was another walk on, as was the tea cups that they went after that. I was keeping an eye on the time, we wanted to do Philharmagic, but a show had just gone in so rather than wait we went on the carousel and then had a walk over to Adventure Land for one last Dole Whip before catching the bus back to the resort. We took a slow walk down Main Street and said our good-byes until next year.

Once back in the room, we had showers, got changed and I called Bell Services to collect our Owners Locker. We finally left the room at about half 12 and I called housekeeping to tell them the room was empty. We went down to Roaring Forks for some lunch and when we’d finished we waited in the lobby until it was time for our ME bus at 2pm.

We got to the airport just after 3pm and our flight was showing a 45 minute delay. I explained at check in that my knee was still painful and difficult to keep in one position for any length of time so we were allocated the bulkhead seats (thankfully there were no babies on this flight that needed the sky cot.) We went to the food court and got a snack then spotted a sale in the Croc’s shop. They had Troika's reduced but nothing in my size, but I did get a pair of Athens And Niamh was keen on the new Crocs boots. We went through security with no delays and found somewhere to sit near the gate.

The kids played on their Nintendo’s and I did a quick bit of Dibbing using the airports free Wi-Fi. I got some drinks for the kids and had a last Starbucks.

There was an announcement that they had 3 seats left in the Premium cabin at $375. Knowing how great they were, I was sorely tempted for about 30 seconds but then I thought about what I could do with nearly $1,200 and the urge to upgrade passed.

It was a fairly uneventful flight home, the food was rubbish and there were no seatback TV’s so I watched a couple of movies on my MP4 player while Aodhan and Niamh slept either side of me. My leg was quite sore and I took some painkillers on the flight and it did help being able to stretch out and put my foot on the wall in front of the seat. I finally fell asleep at about 6 and was woken by the cabin crew at half past :erm: We landed at about half 7 and I had a text from Steve to say he was waiting for us. I asked if he’d nip upstairs to the food court and grab a Starbucks for me.

We were one of the first off the plane, it was a long walk to immigration but there was no delays. As we didn’t have any cases to collect we were straight through. We spotted Steve coming down the escalators with the coffees and we were all delighted to see him.

We stopped at Bewleys in Newlands Cross for breakfast which was appreciated by all of us and we were so busy chatting on the way home that we didn’t fall asleep. There wasn’t much unpacking when we got home and the kids and I managed to stay awake until about half 7.

Afterthoughts
We usually travel indirect which means that all we do on the last day is get up have breakfast and head to the airport with no time to visit a park. Flying direct this time made a big difference, and those few hours in MK were brilliant. It didn't feel like we were going home and made our last day a bit more bearable. Even Aodhan was relaxed today and didn't need his usual chill pill. I'm going to try and get direct flights for next summer if I can.

I really enjoyed this trip for a number of reasons, staying totally on site was lovely and felt like a different holiday from when we stay in a villa. September was a lovely time to go, as the crowds were light and the weather was lovely. I got to spend quality time with the kids and do all the things they wanted to. We did a lot of laughing and hopefully made some great memories. As they get older I realize that this sort of holiday will soon be over and they’ll be moving on with their own lives so I am grateful that I had this opportunity to be with them.

Thanks for taking the time to read these trip reports

Awww!!! But don't you believe it - you guys will be making memories for some time to come, I'm confident of that!!! :thumbsup2 TBH I have found that the kids are with you always - I'm taking my two sons to WDW next week. OK, so Samuel's 15, but my 23 year old big son has invited himself along too!!! I am of course delighted that he still wants to tag along with his Mum... :cloud9:

A lovely report, thanks for sharing it with us:goodvibes

Thanks for taking the time to read these trip reports

Oh, but it is we who thank you for taking the time and care to write an excellent trip report and for your generosity in sharing your special times at WDW. Go back soon and do it all again, please.

I agree with Karen. My dd does not want to go with us to our holiday home in Spain but I can foresee that either she or I will tag along for future holidays to WDW. Especially as we have DVC it will always be a family holiday.

"they’ll be moving on with their own lives so I am grateful that I had this opportunity to be with them."

I wouldn't worry too much about that, provided you are going to Orlando. My two sons are 18 and 20 and are still coming with us, thankfully, though it is tons more expensive.

Lovely report and photos.

wow what a great trippie but it sounds strangly familiar to one i read recently somewhere else :surfweb: popcorn::
