I am 34 and still have never had the talk with my parents. There are stillthings that I don't know LOL! I vowed never to do that to my children. I know that if something were to happen to me that my DH would definatley make sure that my children were well informed about everything. I have made sure that my dearest girlfrinds will also take care of speaking to my children to if they come to them with questions. My parents never talked about those kinds of subjects. I never want my children to feel that its a taboo subject, be embarassed of their bodies or feel that they can't come to us.
I was about 6 when my parents, who were kind of hippies, got me a book that was very PBS-like. On one page there was a drawing of a hen with a rooster behind it, and eggs both unfertilized and with ckicks in various stages of development. On the next page was a drawing of a man and woman, both face up and side by side (maybe holding hands?) in bed with a blanket covering them up to their necks.
The art work reminds me (in my memory) of Eric Carle, because the blanket was a photograph of real fabric, giving the picture a textured look. It used words like uterus and placenta. Needless to say, it was a bit confusing but unforgetable. Did anyone else have this book?
And they sent samples of femine products home too! I was so disappointed!
