The tacky continues...

Exactly! Disney isn't just first world! Most of the first world can't afford it! It's literally at these prices a luxury vacation. I've been on luxury vacations. Cheap, slipshod signage is absolutely an ok thing to be annoyed (not outraged) by.

People are literally on property paying two car payments or a mortgage payment per night for the hotels alone. The parks are up to $1000 per day for some families who add Genie+.

Every. Single. Problem. On. This. Forum. Is. A. First. World. Problem.

Remember the original "WestWorld" movie with Yul Brenner? That vacation was a $1000 a day. you got to shoot robots, beat up robots and whoever was standing by, hook up with robots, food and liquor included! Granted the robots did kill all the tourists but come on now you got to joust and sword fight. AND NO GENIE+

I said in another thread but i hope this continues, the jumping water fountains in epcot could be painted blue and have a Moana sticker out on them.

The point is Disney didn't decide to do this on a whim. If they knew that on x date the program would go live then they should have everything ready by then and not rely on cheap decals pasted over an existing sign.

Exactly. Hints at a level of unpreparedness that we usually wouldn't expect from Disney. Not a good sign, no pun attended.

While I think the current fix is sloppy- I will defend Disney's "unpreparedness". There are massive supply/ shipping backlogs right now. It's entirely possible that they planned for new signs, but are unable to get them. I doubt you can find Lightning Lane signs at Walmart.

It might not unpreparedness if there are other factors that inhibit the signs being made on time. In large-scale changes such as this Disney is dealing with a million things right now. As stated above, the shipping backlogs are really bad at this time. If they are making more permanent signs, we really don’t know why they aren’t ready.

I would assume that if CM went out into Frontierland or Tower of Terror in vague, nondescript costumes - we might think, "Huh, this isn't how Disney normally does stuff - seems like they're rushing/doing it cheaply." Does WDW not have its own print shop? I can't imagine they were waiting on Kinko's (OK,, FedEx Office) to get these and FedEx had to say, "Oops, we're out of ___ material due to shipping delays."

I don't buy that.

It's a sign, not a chipset, and Disney is a 1/3 of a TRILLION dollar company with plenty of resources to get a sign done right.
You’re assuming Disney is physically creating the sign. If they don’t, the company they hired or actually make the design might be behind schedule for a number of reasons.

Making a change, even if it seems small to us, is not like turning on a light switch. Money cannot make things move quicker if there are other factors at play.

I would disagree. If Disney is using a vendor for sign-making (and I'd be supremely shocked that they were, just like I'd be shocked if they didn't do their own costuming*), Disney is going to be their #1 customer. And sometimes that might not matter - but when a company the size of Disney, Disney Parks, or even just the Walt Disney World resort is your primary client, you definitely get things done in a timely, professional fashion (or you know that they could easily walk to your competitor and you'll become the 5th largest sign-making company in Central Florida vs. the 1st largest (or whatever).

ETA to add the * - I know that they do their own costuming (I realize there are special parts that might bring in third party vendors for certain things but generally their work is in-house)

Spot on. And even if that were true, Disney's vaunted Imagineering team should be able to fix something like this pretty easily.

Again, it's a sign. And this change it's something they came up with last week.

That’s not how project management works, though. Things don’t get done on time simply because you have a ton of money and you just want it completed.

There are a million factors at play when creating a new system, a new land, etc. There are unforeseen issues that arise, there are problems with funds, there are tiny little issues that affect bigger things.

I just have to wonder, why the rush to put signs up when they haven't even announced a start date? Every day that goes by with these janky signs up and the program NOT live is another day that someone could have been working in a workshop making the signs at least look decent. How hard is it to just flip the sign over and put the new decal on the back rather than the side with the embossing? How hard would it have been to nail a flat panel over the old sign to create a smooth surface? How hard is it to make sure the decal doesn't have a bubble in it?

This is sloppy work that has no place in a Disney park. No excuse is good enough here. Take the signs down and fix them. It is insulting to have such terrible looking signage for a product they are literally charging for (use of the LL).

If Disney can magically transform a park into Christmas or Halloweentime overnight, they can wait until the last minute to install these signs. This Genie program is at least 3 weeks away, given the "coming this fall" verbiage.

This appears to be like the state road construction crews putting up a "bump ahead" sign on the road - temporary until they can spend bigger dollars fixing it permanently!

Yeah, instead of a sticker, at least a painted wooden sign of the same shape with some trim. I could do better than that with an afternoon trip to Home Depot.
