Our trip isn't until December so I was going down memory lane and looking at pictures from past trips. We take pics every year of the kids trying to pull the sword from the stone, though they have never been successful. Is this thing even turned on anymore? If you (or your child) was successful in pulling it out, when did it happen? I'd also LOVE to see pics, if you have them and are willing to share.

I am interested too! I have never saw it pulled out of the stone but have always heard it was possible.

When we were there in November, I did see people pulling it out. It's completely random, rather than a ceremony. And it doesn't happen all day, either. Just like the "friend of PUSH" there will be a CM secretly hanging out with magic powers. When my son pulled it out two or three years ago, it was a custodial CM spreading pixie dust while sweeping.

If anyone knows of a time of day when magic is more likely to happen, please share. As far as I can tell, it's sporadic and random, but I would love to increase our odds.

I don't want to spoil the magic but during my CP that sort of magic was performed by Fantasyland attractions cast members. It is totally random and involves a remote. Oftentimes there are no positions to fill on rides for cast members and you get a slip telling you to blow bubbles or hand out stickers, etc. This task is one that is handed out. I did get a kick out of allowing a little girl to pull the sword but not her brother because he was pushing her and being downright mean. Oops! :)

That is great! :rotfl:

As far as I know it has been discontinued. We were at MK three days on our April trip and no-one ever pulled the sword out, and there were plenty of CM's around who could of done so.

When I was there in Dec. they had a whole show about it. They would call the biggest people thy could find and have them try it and fail. At the end thy would pick some small child who would succeed. Then have a little ceremony for the new king or queen.

My daughter pulled it out in 2012, complete with ceremony. Both DD's have been doing it for 10 years and that was the first time for either so you never know.

We saw the same show in Oct 2013.

May 2011 during evening EMH a bunch of characters (Goofy, Pluto, Pooh, Tigger, etc) came out for pictures right by the sword. If I remember correctly either Donald or Pluto brought a little girl up to the sword and she ended up pulling it out; all the characters made a big fuss over it.

The best part was I mentioned it here on the boards after the trip and the mother of the little girl ended up being a member, she was psyched to hear our perspective. Turns out her daughter had been fighting cancer and the Disney trip they took was a pretty big deal. It was nice how the magical story came full circle thanks to this community. :)
