I just moved to Orlando and have read many stories about the wonders of Universal Happy Hour. My GF works overnight, and quite often, so I find myself doing things such as Disney and Universal solo sometimes, this was my first time doing the Orlando parks, as we just moved from L.A. As much as I love Disney, I think I'll be spending most of my solo time at Universal. Many of the rides are single rider friendly (as many of them are at Disneyland in CA, not at WDW in FL), and the almost endless Happy Hour. A double Grey Goose and tonic ran about 9 something at the backwater bar at IOA. I then made my way to the Watering Hole at Jurassic Park for a full price Domestic ( 5 and change), my bad, their happy hour ended at 4pm...still fresh from CA .. it felt like 1 or 2. Over to the Alchemy Bar where the bartender was happy to volunteer the drink specials...3 dollars for a Domestic. A few hours at Universal .. at that Irish bar (forgot the name) around 6 pm .. it was a 2 dollar domestic! MY GOD A 2 DOLLAR BEER! AT A THEME PARK! Nothing makes me happier than wandering around Epcot, drinking from the tap, but at 2 bucks...it looks like unversal will own my 2-7pm.

Anyone have any good happy hour tips?

Finnegans is great isn't and there menu for food is excellent as well:jester:

Wow, I think our happy hour thread has scrolled off the board.
We used to have times from every bar. They change during the summer and have longer hours. But yeah, happy hour is basically from 2-7 at various bars in the parks. The times may vary by an hour depending on the bar.
Nascar Cafe rocks because they have draft specials all the time.
And I agree, the single rider lines come in very handy, because the beer wants out.
Better to pay the extra money and stay with the long island ice teas once you are in the park. Good idea to get buzzed at Nascar, and then switch to the long islands.

At Disney, there is a beer stand at the very back of Epcot that has an import on draft. I think it was Becks or Heinekin. That was nice, because I slammed a beer, and then the fireworks started.

What, you've never heard of a long island iced tea?

It's basically 4 shots with cola on top with a lemon wedge. The shots vary, but basically, if they make it correct, it tastes like an ice tea, and you can't even tell what is going on. But don't be fooled, you'll be feeling good in no time. Just walk up to the bar and say Long Island and they'll know. It will cost about $5, and then you'll tip a buck, but believe me, it is a nice drink.

At Atlanta International Airport in Terminal T, I ordered one to go, they made it a double, it was $13, but oh my, this thing was so huge. I took it on the plane ride, and was buzzing all the way down to south Florida.

Another nice drink to try is a Flaming Dr. Pepper. What they do here, is fill a beer mug half way full of beer, then take a shot of jack, top it with barcardi 151, light it on fire, let you look at it and go wow, then drop it into the beer, and then you have to slam the entire thing. Guess what, it tastes like a Dr. Pepper.

so their long island has like 4 shots and its 5 bucks during the happy hour?

and what's this dr. pepper thing? They do this at the parks? If i'm alone i'm not sure I want that kind of attention....a big flaming drink.

I missed happy hour last year (didn't know). Is there anything posted about happy hour specials outside the establishments? Is it true you can get your drink to go?

I was there the other day. Most of the happy hour menus were on a board behind the bar. I got all my drinks to go. They didn't really mention prices, most just said "reduced"...so I guess that means whatever they want it to. Either way I was a happy camper.

The happy hour specials are draft beer, wine, and sangria at 2 for 1 prices. The long island is full price no matter when you get it, but it's a nice drink and worth the extra money you'll pay, because having to use the bathroom while on a ride is not fun, and the beer wants out more than the long island.

Yes, you can get your drink to go. I've walked around inside the park drinking a beer.

During HHN, they sell beer in the walkways. You can drink your beer waiting in line, but once you get to the attraction entrance, you have to throw it away.

I guess that since the original happy hour thread is getting buried and "the powers that be" will not make it "important" I'll copy over the hours and locations. THe exact start/end times change throughout the year so you really need to check when you get to the park for the correct time.

Also, the last time I was there (March) Finnegans was only giving $1 off for imports but still 1/2 price for domestic beers. Anyone care to reply is this is still true?

Anyway, here's summary of the happy hour locations (1/2 price draft beer and deals on wine and Sangria):

IOA:
Watering Hole - 2-4pm

I'm not really sure of the end time on backwater but I'm pretty sure it was (at one time) an hour earlier

US:
Finnagans - 3-5(?)
La BAmba - 3-5(?)
The best kept secret:
Alcatraz - 2-4

And don't forget City Walk has happy hour until 7.

Buffett Margaritas 2 for 1
Miller Light 2 for 1
