The Swan: Does anyone else find this concept repugnant?

Fox has a new reality show coming up called The Swan. The idea is to take several "unattractive" women and give them free plastic surgery to turn them into "beauties". Of course we get to watch as they suffer through the physical and emotional pain of the process. Then they must compete each week in a beauty contest until only the most "beautiful" remains.

Great googly moogly! What are the people at Fox thinking? Does anyone besides me find this concept repulsive and degrading?

I thought the same thing when I saw that commercial last night. It seems like it is less about improving one's self confidence than it is to conform to some beauty "standard."

The show disgusts me... I can't believe some women would sign up for such a thing. It saddens me so much... FOX needs to get a grip.

I like bad Fox shows for the most part, I haven't gotten into the last few (Eden and Playing it straight) but this one looks just horrible! I can take a lot when it comes to bad reality TV but this crosses a line for me.

There was a line somewhere "we're Fox and we don't care" yep, pretty true.

Did you hear that Bobby Brown wants a reality show and it will most likely feature Whitney . He's trying to sell it to networks now. The story is on eonline and Ryan Seacrest was talking about it.

The first part is just as bad as Extreme makeover but the part that REALLY gets me is when they say something like..........

"And after these transformations some of them still won't be beautiful enough to compete in the ultimate beauty pageant and only one will be crowned The Swan.

Nice, real nice.

Personanly I find al the reality shows repugnant. Those that are based solely on looks (The Swan, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette)are particularly disgusting!
