I talked DH into having the reveal yesterday, at 10 days out. I figured going "next week" is still a great surprise. Saturday night I worked out the treasure hunt DH had thought of. Of course, he was sleeping and didn't know I did it, so he was trying to make it while we were at church
Good thing I came in the door first! I sent him out the door with my envelopes to hide.
After lunch we told the girls to get on their coats and boots. I handed them a note about their treasure hunt. They had to find 7 envelopes outside. Each one had a math problem inside for each girl. They found them and brought them inside to work on. Each answer corresponded to a letter, and they filled out my code message- "Look at the November calendar". They did and saw the brightly colored "Disney World" on our dates.
Much screaming, hysterical laughter, and rolling on the floor together ensued, followed by a hug for Daddy in his recliner... Then they decorated their new autograph books and made a SHORT paper chain!
DD11 had previously said that hypothetically she would rather be in on the planning instead of being surprised, but now she said we should do this again to her next year
I think the 10 days notice was better for them than telling them the day of departure.
