THEY'RE SO GOOD, READ THEM YOU'LL GET ADDICTED I SWEAR.
The author is just AMAZING. The books really draw you in.
Here's my rundown:
There's 13 Districts, well 12 really because one was destroyed by the government for rebelling. The books take place in a setting where there are these 12 districts, and they're pretty much just the United States. All other countries have died off from constant war or whatever and it's really just the US left (they never really say that in the book, but they hint at it). Every year the Capitol- the government- has the Hunger Games. A boy and a girl from the ages of like ~12-18 from each District is chosen at random to be sent to the Hunger Games. Here they fight for their lives in whichever situation the Capitol puts them in (ex. a desert, a rain forest, etc.) they make their own arena and the Capitol can control things that go on (i.e. volcano erupting, tsunami, bugs
attacking, etc.). They fight to their death and the one person that wins (only
one person can win, not both the boy and the girl from a District.) gets to live
in a special house in their District provided by the Capitol and such. They have
the Hunger Games to remind the people of the Districts about District 13
rebelling and now this is a punishment. District 12, where the main character
Katniss and the supporting character, Peeta, are from, is located around
Virginia/North Carolina/Tennessee because District 12 is known for their coal,
which we have the coal mining industry around the Appalachin Mountains.
District 12 is the poorest District and Katniss, her sister, and her mother live in a tiny home. Katniss has a best friend- Gale, and they go hunting for food
so they can survive (this is illegal.).
In the first book, it talks about the Hunger Games. It talks about the events leading up to the HGs, what happens during the HGs, and leaves you sort of
hanging at the end with the 'confusing' outcome.
The second book and third book I can't remember what comes when, but the second book focuses on the next Hunger Games (they have one every year.) and then the third book focuses on what the Districts do AFTER the Hunger
Games. I don't want to give anything away
OKAY, that's A LOT! haha
