The SUPER GOOFS are sweating our way through AUGUST, will this heat wave end soon?

Suzanne - That's a great compliment from the nurse. I hope you get the go ahead for Wine & Dine. Keep us posted!

Ashleigh - Congratulations on getting everything lined up for the Princess Half. I'm not the best person to give prerace meal advice as I usually make bad choices! I haven't found the perfect meal yet but I've found quite a few things that are bad. I would avoid fried foods, anything with a lot of fiber, Mexican food, garlic/onions (or anything you wouldn't want to taste for 13.1 miles), and anything with heavy sauces. Most importantly, I would avoid overeating which is hard to do at Disney restaurants. I would just try to pick something well-balanced and not eat too late.

Kim - I haven't heard of the FIRST program but it sounds like a good balance. Good luck with all your Goofy training!

AFM, I had a great week of working out at our new gym. I've already taken four classes and spent some time on the treadmill there.

We are going crazy trying to get everything bought and packed up for our trip down to LA for the Disneyland Half followed by four days at the parks. We leave Thursday after work. :woohoo:

Hi all. I'm here--can't believe my last post was that long ago.

Shan Heel has mostly recovered. 2+ weeks and there is still a little something there, but fortunately it doesn't seem to bother my running. Glad your marathon program is progressing well.

Jason Congrats on the 1/2. I hear you about pace. BG (Before Garmin) I ran without a watch and really had no sense of how fast I was going. AG--I'm not sure my pace-sense is any better, and now I have this thing that will let me know if I'm going too slow! or fast. I am convinced if I ran the 1/2 I did in April with my Garmin, I wouldn't have PR'ed. Oh well, I guess it's still a learning curve.

And 20 miles in 2:34? :worship:

SteveCongrats on your race. And 300 squats-wow! Did your knees let you know how they felt about that? I have got to find a race that has great food at the end. Always amazes me when the senior set is out there racing. I hope I can still move when I get old.

Hope to meet you a tDL!

Suzanne Seems like free dining is going to be around for quite a while--looks like yuo'll stay busy. Hope you get back to some good training soon and glad to hear you're inspiring others to get out there and run.

Ashleigh Yeah for booking your princess trip. I have my eye on that race, since I decide to skip marathon weekend--I'm planning a December trip with my DD and I can't justify going back less than one month later. Plus, I've never done princess and I'd like to have a complete set of Disney medals. Anyway, this past year before the marathon, I ate pasta at the POR food court. They had a "select your own" kind of thing--you choose the pasta, sauce and other add-ins. Worked well for me. Don't remember what I had done in previous years.

KimYes, I use the FIRST programs--have for the last 2 years. I think I originally selected them because the idea of 3 days of running seemed like it would take less of a toll on my body. I do the speed work and tempo work on a TM, and the long run outdoors. I like the plan--they work for me. I have used the half marathon plan--I don't know why it is longer than the others. I recently used part of it just to build my base up so I could start the marathon plan (which is a tough one!) I have also used the 5k and 10 k plans over the past couple of winters. And as for missing a run, don't worry. A few weeks ago, I also missed a tempo run. Missing the occasional run--whichever its is-- is never the end of the world.

Rich Rest sounds like a great idea--hope this week heals all that ails you.

As for me...I also did 20 yesterday, but unlike speedy Jason mine was at a 9:05 pace for a 3hr+ total. The thing is, I was supposed to run at 9:20 mpm (the FIRST pace for that run). I seem to have a limited ability to control my pace. But except for the last three miles, I ran reasonably consistently. I have tried using the alerts on my Garmin to monitor my specific pace, but find them annoying because they go off too frequently and pace normally varies over the course of a mile anyway. So the net result is that I have run my 3rd of of 5 planned 20 milers (yikes!) at the fastest pace I am supposed to run them during the plan. I feel both good and bad about that. Good because I made it through and feel reasonably okay afterwards, but bad because I still wonder how I will kick it up another 15 seconds/mile AND run a full 26.2

Anyway, I too must poack this week--mostly stuff to take to my son. Me? I can throw stuff together in 15 minutes.

Have a great week everyone.

Maura

Hello!

OK, 62 miles for me in August.

Suzanne, congrats getting off the DL!!! :woohoo:

Kim, I'll be there marathon weekend, attempting the full. It will be my first full. :scared1:

Jason, OMG! You're awfully speedy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maura, congrats on your 20 miler! You were also flying. :thumbsup2

So I did my 10.5 LR on Sunday. I did a R3/W1. Pace was 13:07. :sad2:
Last 2 miles my left knee started bothering me, but I managed to get back to the car and complete the distance. Why I didn't attempt the full when I was at my peak I'll never know. Just hoping to cross the finish line at this point and avoid the sweepers.
