The Stowaway Diaries: Mistakes, Retakes & Double Takes Update 4/30

YES put that pic in your avatar!:rotfl: :rotfl2:

I'll put the moose hat on for the enjoyment of my DIS friends!

Monica, just make sure we are all standing there with cameras ready. I'm sure Hunter and Megan would enjoy seeing a pic of Mom at her best.

Sharon, that is the funniest picture yet! It definitely should go on Faith's avatar or sig.

The Illuminations cruise sounds wonderful. That was so sweet of you to do that for your friends.

So, why is the Tower of Terror pink?

Molly, the Tower of Terror is pink because it was painted the EXACT same color as Morrocco at Epcot. That's because it's actually visible behind Morrocco as you are standing in the World Showcase and that's a Disney no-no. Disney wants guests to think that there is no place outside of the park you are in.

Great idea about the avatar! I think that would be the best one out there! :thumbsup2

OK, I might just do it. Faith would be in for a big shocker when she goes to post over on the restaurant boards and that moosehead pops up.

THIS IS GREAT!!!!! :lmao:

but this is even better!!!!!! :rotfl2: :worship:

thanks for the illuminations pictures....makes me even more excited to see it for the first time this trip! the cruise sounds fabulous!

Hi Dawn, it's great to see you over here. I miss you. You will love illuminations. Wishes has all of the magic but Illuminations has such a powerful message. Faith doesn't see Wishes every trip but she always sees Illuminations. Make sure you get there early and can get up against a railing somewhere as so much of the show is at water level rather than in the sky.

The pictures are hilarious! :rotfl2: The whole installment made me laugh. The cruise sounds wonderful.

Kathy, this day at Disney was a GREAT day. Too bad it wasn't the last day so everyone could have went home on a high note.

I don't blame Vik for having to run to the potty. I just about wet 'em when I saw the moose picture myself! And :thumbsup2 to Faith for shopping like that. She's a real woman of substance! (No, not illegal substances; fortitude, valor, that kind of stuff).

disney with you would be sooo much fun. Good grief, you were a blast in the cold rainy weather - put us together at Disney? Fun times!

Hi Danielle, it's good to "see" you. It took more courage to post the picture here than it did to take it. :lmao: The old Faith would have never done it. Battling cancer just makes people realize that life is too short to miss out on the fun opportunities. Faith is definitely stronger and more light hearted.

Tina, Disney would be a blast. December, right? I've heard rumblings that the true love of your life, Mr. Anderson, will be there at that time.

Sharon - love the moose hat but I don't think it's better than the green one at Morracco (I don't think I spelled that right). So funny that she walked around the store with it on, good for her. I think that cruise for Illuminations would be great, do you mind if I ask how much it was? You can PM me if you don't want to post it. I miss seeing you on the other board  I wonder what happens the next day. I don't think I would be able to go to Disney and not be in control for one day, good for her.

Laura

PS I would like to know why the TOT is that color too.

Laura, I thought it was a toss up on which hat was better (or worse) too. The green one didn't work with the glasses at all and the moosehead was just so big. But the chin straps on the moosehead tilted the decision for me. Gotta love those chin straps, especially on a 50 year old woman.

Tower of Terror is pink so that it can't be seen when looking at Morocco in the World Showcase. They painted it the exact same color as Morocco because ToT is taller and can actually be seen from Epcot. I'm going to be trying to spot that on my trip next month.

The cruise was $275, I think. Not sure if it included tax or not. It definitely didn't include the tip. It's 30 minutes long. The boats will fit 10 people but 4 of those people are going to sit behind the 6 in front and those 4 would not have as great of views. There is a thread over on Theme Parks where people who snag one of these offer up seats for sale to fill the boats and keep the costs per person down (that would make it about $33 per person). I did not want more than 6 on our boat so that everyone would have prime viewing. The boats are very hard to get as there are so few of them. I would definitely consider doing it again but I've also heard that sometimes, the smoke blows towards the boats and the viewing isn't as good. This night, for us, there was no wind at all so we had a perfect view.

This is the funniest thing I have ever read!!! That moose picture killed me!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Hooray!!!! I am so glad FlatSharon is back!!!! :cool1:

I know you have be quite busy, but I wanted to let you know I have missed your comments and humor!!!

I think it killed Faith when the pictures were developed and she got her first eyeful of how stylish she looked with chin straps. I don't think she has to worry about being asked to join next season's America's Next Top Model. She's lucky she didn't get escorted off property.

Hooray!!!! I am so glad FlatSharon is back!!!! :cool1:

Thank you. Actually, Faith has had me stuffed into her purse and wouldn't let me out for awhile. But I've figured a way out now so I should be around frequently to finish up this report.

Hi Faith - the price for the Illuminations cruise was not as much as I thought and I would have paid that much although when I told DH about it he said he wouldn't pay that much:confused3 What does he know anyway?

I know, Laura. I thought it was a great price considering what you pay for a t-shirt and stuff like that. My husband has paid more than that for a round of golf so I was actually a little surprised at his reaction to the cruise cost. I guess it's just priorities.

Just last week I was telling someone about that cruise and he did say that he thought it was the most amazing way to see those fireworks. So I know he'd go again, but maybe only if we split the boat costs with the others instead of picking it up all ourselves. Next time I'll just make sure I go to the window and pay for it.

I think if I ever get the chance to do that I will pay for the tickets as well. What he doesn't know won't hurt him :rotfl:

I just finished reading 23 pages, and have to compliment you for an extremely funny and very clever trip report! :) I can't remember the last time I read anything that made me laugh out loud to the point of snorting!

Well tiggertail, thank you very much. When you are a flat laminated person, you don't have a lot going on in your life (I don't have to do laundry, spend time fixing my hair, etc). I've had plenty of time to hone my writing skills.

I just wish I could have found a more normal group of people to tour WDW with. Maybe next time.

Well friends, I'm going to post another installment here but I'm not sure who is left on these boards to read it. To the friends who are no longer posting here, Faith misses you.

The group has completed four full days at WDW. They have toured every park, sampled every churro stand and tried on every hat. Faith, in a gesture of false generosity, told Vik and Mike that the fifth day was a free, unscheduled day and that the group would do whatever they picked.

Everyone rolls out of bed Friday morning at a fairly decent time for old people. Even Mike is up; he's been struggling all week to keep up the pace. So what does that mean if Mike is up and ready before everyone else?

A little backstory here. Remember in the very first installment, I told you that Mike likes presidential libraries and all that kind of fun (er yeah, right) stuff? Well, long before the group left the smoggy shores of California, Mike had told Vik that he really wanted to see a space shuttle on the launch pad. Vik had passed this on to Faith so that the two of them could use their combined prayer power to pray that the shuttle launched before their vacation. It was scheduled to go off on Jan 10th. At the time they had left on their vacation on the 13th, it had not launched. Vik had made a point of not giving Mike a chance to read a paper or watch the news so the group had no idea if it had launched that week.

Now Mike and Vik had been to Kennedy Space Center before, on a prior trip to Florida. Faith and Mo had no interest whatsoever in visiting there. To them, Florida consists of MCO and WDW.

Soooooooooo, Mike tells them on this Friday morning that he has checked, the shuttle has not launched, he has called for a rental car, everything is arranged and they are going to Kennedy Space Center. :scared1: I have to give Faith some credit here. She'd rather spend the day riding Its A Small World over and over but she manages to keep her face from falling off of her neck. Mike is all excited.

So off they go. They walk from Beach Club over to the Dolphin where the rental car is. Vik tells Faith that she refused to help Mike make any of these arrangements, figuring he'd give up since he always has her take care of everything, but he's managed to do it.

Faith immediately asks how long this is going to take. Mike says, no worries, all he wants to do is see the shuttle. 30 minutes to get there, see the shuttle, drive back, be back at WDW by noon. So Faith feels a little better.

They get the car, Mike is going to drive and Mo is going to navigate. Vik whispers to Faith that Mike is a terrible driver and Faith whispers back that Mo can't read a map and is always lost. So I hop in the back with the girls and watch the stupidity unfold. It takes these 2 guys at least 20 minutes just to find their way out of the Dolphin parking lot.

Mike drives at least 25 miles over the speed limit (retired law enforcement) and the group struggles with the tolls as nobody thought to bring money for toll booths. The 30 minute ride takes an hour, even with the excessive driving speed. But we finally make it:

Mike offers to purchase all of the tickets so everyone else waits on him. He rejoins the group and then tells them that the earliest tour they can get on to see the shuttle is at 1:10. I duck into my lanyard because Faith is now pretty peeved.

They enter Kennedy and Mike has to take his pic in front of the sign; it's the first pic all week that he asks to have taken:

100_0435.jpg

So what is the group going to do for several hours? Oh and did I mention that it's very cold and drizzling rain? They go to the cafeteria; Mike offers to buy them an early lunch. They get 4 hot dogs, 4 sodas and 2 bags of M&M's. The bill came to over $50. So you people who complain about Disney costs, look out, don't come here.

After they eat, they wander through the various buildings. Mike is enthralled; the other 3 are bored. Here's the only fun photo they take:

The hours roll by and finally it's time to board their bus to go out to the launch pad. Mike is talking so fast, he's so excited. They get a tour guide named Bill. He treats his charges like morons. He tells them a fact and then asks the question back to see if they were paying attention. Faith is getting very irritated.

Faith also discovers at this time that this tour is over 2 hours long and has other stops besides the launch pad. The first stop is to look at a concrete pad on the ground that some rocket is launched from. Faith doesn't even bother getting off the bus.

Finally they get to the shuttle launch viewing area. They all tromp off the bus to take a picture. Now, this photo was taken zoomed in on Faith's camera:

100_0446.jpg

Now, it cost a rental car, over $400 in admissions and tour costs, $50 for a terrible lunch and an entire day missed at WDW and this is as close as they get to the shuttle. I'm sure Faith will be complaining about this for the rest of her life.

They return from their 2 hour tour and I found my own photo op to remember this day:

100_0442.jpg

It is a much better picture of the shuttle than Faith got.

Oh and did I mention that this place was packed with school groups, many junior high age children who were incredibly noisy and misbehaved? All in all, just a fun fun day.

Mike wants to look through more of the buildings but the rest of the group begs him to leave. They did ride the ridiculous shuttle launch simulator. Faith was expecting Mission Space, not even close. Don't get her started on it.

So they head back to WDW as the sun is setting. An entire park day lost. A Disney day Faith will never get back. How will she make up for this injustice.

They return the car at the Dolphin, hurry back to the Beach Club, because they only have enough time to clean up for dinner and grab a taxi. Faith tells everyone that her boss is picking up the tab for their dinner that night. And I say what?????? I work for this company too; I've been there 23 years. Do you want to know how many dinners I've gotten? ZERO. So I can't wait to see what Faith has planned. After this very long day, I know there will be alcohol involved.

Sorry guys, that this installment has not been fun. But in reality, it was not fun. No way to sugarcoat this day.
