What is all this stuff with the Mayor. I have been to Disney too many times to count & I've never seen a Mayor. Never seen or heard of the Family Day Parade either.

Plus, didn't the OP or Mommamouse mention something about them going to ride Buzz while the parade was going? Now they didn't ride Buzz - or did they? How can you ride Buzz if the parade on Main Street is only 5 minutes long. You can't even walk to Buzz from Main Street in that amount of time. :confused3

I met the Mayor last year at Christmas as well and I also saw him back in September. This was at Christmas '05.

Sorry for the size.

ETA: And yes, that Family parade is crazy business. They start at the hub in front of the castle and "train" the family and then they start the parade after they're trained. I've passed people while they're doing it. It's not the type of parade people line up to see - basically because it's just a bunch of guests and a few characters (usually Chip and Dale) marching down Main Street with the band.

You're right, there is a bigger story here! It appears the OP's family didn't see the Mayor of Main Street after all! They saw Hildegard, who is a woman running against the Mayor in the next election on Main Street! Hildegard does seem very competant to govern Main Street, but I do like the current Mayor Weaver a lot, though! :teeth:
Now I'm really intrigued. Does anyone know where these two stand on the issues? Sure the old guy seems tough on crime, but what else do we really know about him??

I'm going to pass on the popcorn. It's Thanksgiving. I think we need to take it up a notch here.

From Wikipedia (Not!);

"Recently elected on a campaign promise that "there's a great big beautiful tommorrow", The Mayor took some time immediately after the tough election season to take a two week jungle cruise to Asia & Schweitzer Falls.

He is a strong animal rights activist, particularly known for his unbending support of Mice, Waterfowl and whatever the heck Stitch actually is. In the past he has taken on a strong anti-pirate immigration stance, but recently backed off enough to allow the inclusion of one Capt. Sparrow.

Known as a real people mover, the Mayor ultimately has designs on one day being included in the Hall of Presidents.

Known the small world over, The Mayor carried the election due to the overwhelming electoral support of the four year old voting block, who apparently has the ability to spot him anywhere in the middle crowd."

What a great thread; it's been a please just to wade through the entire thing and let in all soak in! I suppose rather than storing it on a hard drive, one should place the OP's story in a crock pot.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Okay, I'm finally done eating. Have we cracked the case yet?

I guess what bothers me most is that her kid didn't want to see the mayor after all, he wanted to see Hildegard. I mean, sure, seeing the actual mayor would be worth a little shoplifting charge, but Hildi? I don't think so...

And to answer your question Duckfan about their stance on the issues, I'll bet 10 to 1, at least one of them is running on the "no to the war in Iraq" campaign.

OT, but in the above photo I posted of the Mayor with the reporter, does anyone know the reporters name? She was SO nice and wonderful! She talked to my Mom and I for quite a while we were waiting for the Christmas parade. She even offered me an apartment on Main Street. :rotfl:

I'm enduring dial-up at my parent's house to check in on this crazy thread!

Funny thread! Although I am embarrassed to admit that I tend to believe the stories and don't instantly suspect someone is lying.
I think the thing that stands out the most in this story is that her DH did not get stopped the first time he left the store. I think they usually stop you when you leave a store, not when you leave and come back later for more things.
DD(23), her husband and son were at WDW with us last year. DH & I were in the store just outside of the Space Mountain ride waiting for DD and her husband to come off of the ride. Her DS was in a stroller and grabbed a toy off of the rack and began playing with it. After DD and her husband arrived, we all left the store. A few minutes later we noticed her DS still had the toy.
DD sent her husband back to the store to explain what happened and to pay for it. Disney was fine with that and never acted like we were trying to steal it.

You want my opinion on this story? Well, TOO BAD! YOU'RE GETTING IT ANYWAY!

You are NOT a thief. You're not a thief. What you are is A FIBBER! Oh, yes, madam, you are a fibber. THIS WHOLE STORY IS A FIB! A made up FIB!

It doesn't make sense! None of it makes sense, and if it doesn't make sense - IT ISN'T TRUE!

Byrd, don't you just love it when these people come in here peeing on my leg and tell me it is raining?
OMG! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Are they looking to just go back in Dec and want Disney to pay? This has been very interesting. ;)

So the excited 4 year old jumped out of the stroller and ran to the back of the stroller to stuff things inside of it, but you didn't see him do this.
Nope, even though she states in item 4

You don't think Mickey's going commando do you?
Nah, but a Mickey with his (well, probably her) head under her arm and a human head sticking out above the body could have devastated some kids.... probably even more than seeing their dad dragged away in leg irons. But, um, I still don't get how if she went to City Hall she was eventually marched DOWN (or up) MAIN STREET with a police officer in front of her and another behind her. Where exactly WAS her husband being detained??? Oh, wait - I see my mistake:
MommaMouse said:
finally after demanding someto come and explain something to me I had two officers come out tell me to leave my children by the parade route and follow them.... down the middle of the parade route with one officer in front and one in back.

So, apparently, this Disney devotee who has her adult bedroom Disney-decorated and who got a Disney tattoo after 40 years of getting up the courage (making her 58 in most states, 56 in others, given that there ARE minumum ages for tattooees, but I digress) oh, never mind - now I'm too confused to figure out WHAT happened. Except she had to leave her kids "by the parade route" (on a curb somewhere?) while she was escorted "down the middle of the parade" route - did they have to walk around the circle? That'd be 'the parade route'. Or did they walk across it (based on the holding location described by another poster) which would mean being walked down the middle of a sidewalk? Or...:confused::confused:

The Mayor has been there for years, I met him in 1995. He hangs around the flagpole area and does not venture much further. I can't say that I have seen him every trip, just a few times over the years.
Thank you. That's how it appears in the photo of him several pages back - it looks like the Exposition Building is in the background. There are a couple of stores over on that corner of Main Street, but really nothing with a lot of trinkets. OTOH, MommaMouse did say her 12 year old originally picked up a bunch of $50+ gifts for friends back home, and that's very possible in the crystal store right there...

Love the take on the Mayor's politics. Thanks for the summary.

Orange County does not have a Police Department. They only have a Sheriff's Office. This may be a technical point.

And no police department or sheriff's office would separate both parents from minor children.

not buying into this story at all..

If I seen my 4 yr old running out of the store, I would of thrown the items I planned on purchasing anywhere...

sorry.. when you have toddlers it is something you most commonly do.
There is more to this story that is not being said.

I don't believe disney would not take the apology and the money..

what could the items of possibly been worth

Also, she apparently can't make up her mind:

On 3/24/06 she indicated she was going 10/25-11/3

Ok this was going to be my next post. As I sat watching happy feet I started to ponder if these people were ever at WDW a few weeks ago. :confused3

my thoughts exactly. who is the mayor? what does he look like?? why have i never heard of him after 5 trips to wdw in the last 10 yrs.

We've met the mayor--he does walk around on Main Street.

Maybe the only one true part of the story. :teeth:

6)Yes I am a big girl and don't need my DH at my side at all times we split up w/ children all the time to keep them happy due to the age differences( 17,12,4) parade is done while listening to mayor.
7) Yes they would not let me bring my children to security because it is back stage and children are not suppose to see what is back stage because it could ruin thier magic. Officers gave me map to jail told me to go in about 3 hours..I had to find transportation so it took almost 2, when arriving there they told me 3 more hours for prints to clear, then they started bail paperwork aobut 2 hours, then they accepted cash and told me 6-12 more hours for his discharge. Trust me ther were families that were there longer than we were!
8) Trust me when I tell you I do not have the free time to make up stories nor the desire

2 problems...

1. Disney will not have competing entertainment--if there is a parade--the streetmosphere are either part of it..or typically put away for the time being.

2. Hogwash on the backstage bit. While it is true that in the course of ordinary events, they don't want kids backstage b/c it will ruin the magic--for something extraordinary, it is simply not the case. My youngest has been back stage. She was very sick and they called our resort for transport. They picked us up at the backdoor of the infirmary and she saw all of the backstage of that side of mainstreet USA. Where the floats are stored and had there been a headless character. Ruining the magic at the point would have been a redundant cause for concern--her magic had been ruined by her illness. For the case of your family--having dad arrested..your magic was ruined at that point. And the liklihood they had you fend for yourself is a bit over the top.
