Fifteen years ago, a woman went to work as a mousekeeper at WDW. For fifteen years she took home the no longer needed wash cloths, and on her own perfected making Mickey and Minnie, dolls, cobras, bunnies, ghosts, puppies and a host of other critters. She spent years trying to figure out how to best shape a head or an ear, failing and then trying again before springing them on her guests with nothing more to help her than her imagination. She perfected the art of cleaning rooms and sneaking in the little surprises when no one was looking. (We never saw any evidence of them on any of the carts). Most of the time, no one thanked her or even tipped her. She did it just because she knew it brought joy to the kids who visited WL. Her reward was seeing a child carry one down the halls or seeing it lovingly placed with the precious items that younger guests brought with them from home.
If you go to WL, you can request to be in Diane's section. We were on the concierge level and received her generous offerings everyday to the delight of our kids, but I imagine that she will make the critters for you on any floor. If you do stay there, please be sure to tip her; each towel animal is the result of 15 years of work and kindness and deserves an act of kindness in return! Most mousekeepers don't make the critters or go above and beyond like Diana anymore, so it is important to acknowledge these very Disney CMs!
