If you ask Hallmark Cards and major retailers like Sears and Target, dad's only like three things: Golf, fishing and tools.

Am I the only one who has a dad that DOESN'T do these things?

My dad passed away a couple of years ago but, yes, I'd always have trouble finding a Father's Day card that fit him. Same with DH and his father, as well. No golfing, fishing, or obsessions with power tools in our family either!

My Dad did golf, but not the other stuff.

My DH does none of the above. He likes watching sports...but his hobby is sitting in front of the TV sound asleep. Where are the cards for that? :confused3

Nope, you're not the only one. It's hard to find a card for my dad too.

My Dad hasnt had anything to do with me since the day I was born. So, nope - not the stereo-typical Dad. ;)

My dad's not into fishing, golf, or tools, either.

I usually am able to find him a card, though. Hallmark always has one about napping in a recliner, which my dad is famous for.

It's impossible to find him a gift, though.

Neither my dad, my step-dad nor my DH plays golf, fishes, hunts or watches sports. Dad was a womanizer, Step-dad played in a bluegrass band, and DH gardens. Makes it real tough to find a Father's Day card.

I can honestly say that in the ten years I have been a father I have not recieved one Father's Day card that had anyting to do with golf, fishing, or tools. But the cards always said "I love you Dad (or Daddy)" whether they were printed by Hallmark or written in crayon. The crayon ones are always the best!

On the flip side, my father left us when I was 3 so I never gave Father's Day a thought for 30+ years.

In the world of guy gifts, you're right - golf, fishing, tools. That's the usual theme.

My DH likes to fish, but isn't obsessed with it, he goes a few times a summer. He used to use tools when he did collision work, now he only uses them when he absolutely has to. Golf - never golfed, never wants to.

Ugh! I know what you mean...

Also, I always have trouble finding step-parent cards for Mother's Day and Father's Day. Usually I'm stuck with the one choice I happen to find.

My dad was into tools. DH just started golfing 3 years ago. Before that he wasn't into anything like that. He still isn't into sports and he never grills! Why do I get a DH that doesn't touch a grill? I was thinking the kids just might get him the biggest grill we can find for a Father's Day gift. LOL!

Same boat here. My dad doesn't have any great interests, although he's really been into the Nascar thing lately. He's the type of guy that everything is "good enough" so he doesn't care about new clothes, etc. You can only buy so much Nascar stuff before it gets old.

DH on the other hand does a little fishing, but not enough to be obsessed with it. Is a carpenter, so he really has all the tools he needs and they are a business write off so it makes it tough to buy as a gift.

It makes it really hard to get the element of great surprise for either of them.

This year I got my father a mother's day card. It was intentional- even though I do have a living close mother as well. It was a cute Disney card with a Snow White theme and a saying about loving me even when I'm Grumpy and seeing the best in people. That's what my father always did/does for me and he was born in 1937 so he has a *huge* love for all things Snow White that came out in that year. I guess my advice is to think unconventionally. I'm just crossing out "Mom" and putting "Daddy. "
