The State Department advises U.S. citizens to reconsider foreign travel - update on 3/11, page 8.

thank you! I keep seeing it’s for ALL US citizens.....but people keep saying, oh, they only mean the folks with issues. I thought ALL meant ALL 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Agree. The way social distancing is effective is the same way that vaccinations are effective. Keeping people who won't die from contracting and carrying a virus is still the best way to keep it from spreading to vulnerable people. Healthy people can come home from a cruise and introduce it to their communities. Even if I didn't die, I wouldn't want to be patient zero in my town.

Like the guy in St Louis who broke quarantine with his younger daughter to go to a father daughter dance when his older (17) daughter is hospitalized with CV (confirmed positive after travel to Italy). He’s totally “that guy.” Same for the dude in New Hampshire who broke quarantine to go to a party, while symptomatic, and tested positive the next day. Totally “that guy.” We don’t hear the names on the National news, but everyone in the community absolutely knows who “that guy” is. I have no intention of being “that guy.”

Thank you for saying this. I'm so tired of hearing people say "I'm young and healthy so I'm not worried." Even if you don't know older people, or people who have medical conditions, they still exist and they matter. I also wouldn't want to bring something back and cause illness and death - not something I would want on my conscience.

yes, I am or was suppose to cruise April 18th. I already told my family I would not see them for 2 weeks after returning home. I always fly, but this trip we decided to drive for the flexibly and to not be on a plane.

When rebooking with credit from your cancelled cruise, are the credits equal to how much you originally paid for the cruise or the value of the cruise at the time of rebooking?

That is not entirely true. And they are still shedding the virus even if asymptomatic. So they can spread it even if they're not at any risk.
Actually, it is true when defined in terms of risk (and contraction). Nothing to do with being asymptotic.

I can see the State Dept's reasoning behind this, putting many people together in close quarters for a week or more can effectively vector any illness brought on board by even a single passenger. Refraining from cruising is just their way of trying to eliminate the spread of the virus. I know they're suggesting people reduce or stop non-essential traveling all together but I am curious why they haven't addressed people flying, there's many thousands/millions of people flying in planes that are pressurized air canisters for hours. That would seem to expose many more people than cruise ships would.
Nobody going to WDW seems to be concerned. I get way closer to people at WDW then I do on a cruise. Closer then I like. Shoulder to shoulder in line for an hour, touching the same railings, thousands of people sharing the same seats, what about that haunted mansion elevator ....the list goes on. Yet it doesn’t seem to be a concern. At least not until we hear about the first case at a WDW resort.

How much you paid. We just rebooked from the 3/21 fantasy to one next year. Because we went from an 8 day to a 7 day, we have credit leftover, which will be on board credit.

I’m impressed. Even if I drop a night, I can’t rebook my spring break cruise for next year without paying at least $1000 more, which we aren’t going to do.

I am currently on a cruise ship (Celebrity) and I just said to someone, "When they shut Disney World down, I will start to think about caring."

I think they're distracted by cruises because it's an easy target right now. I'd be FAR more concerned about going to the parks than I would be about going on a cruise right now.

The parks and a confined ship are not the same. There is a reason Disney basically is a police state walking in to dinner for hand washing.

The numbers are flawed because children in more cases are not presenting the severe symptoms of the adults or any symptoms at all.

This is out of China based on testing:

There is various thoughts as to why but part of it is thought to be healthier lungs.

The whole situation is fluid, and every day is a new unknown. I guess there will be a update later tonight by the US govt. I've planning my DCL cruise for a over a year, but it looks like I might be needing to move it down the road.

Currently they say for Coronavirus symptoms start up 5 days after being exposed, self quarantine for 2 weeks is the usual so far, and that some people may take up to 6 months to recover.

Benefits vs risk...

Even my boss today asked me about my plans for the cruise, since he knows it was supposed to my DH and mine honeymoon cruise. He's not liking the idea that I might need to be in quarantine for 2 weeks after returning from it.

I say Disney should look at the other cruise ships and start taking a lead before something else happens. It's just a matter of time given how extensive guests travel. If any DCL cruise comes positive, it will be a whole PR nightmare.

As long as children display any symptom at any point - whether initially asymptotic - they are considered a case. Severity doesn't matter. The chart shows you the number of cases. What you are referring to is about explaining the fatality rates (also shown) among children.

No, I'm absolutely not. But you do you.

Got so the whole holding you at the door until you wash your hands, aggressive stance towards norovirus, precruise health questionnaire, and CDC inspections of cruise ships. That is all for show in your mind then? I mean none of that is needed to avoid any major issues at your work, hotel, or elsewhere.

Yes, there are actual procedures in place on a cruise ship to promote good hygiene. There are no procedures in schools, hotels, work, and transit systems. There is nothing at all in place to stop the slob who just took a giant poop from walking into a restaurant and touching every surface available. There is no procedure in place in most transit systems to get the bums who are sitting in a puddle of their own urine off the same train that you're about to stand shoulder to shoulder with people in.

But like I said, you do you.
