The Sound of Music

Christopher Plummer didn't like much, he was crochety when he was young :confused3

Love him as a performer.

No not a Christmas movie or song but it's one of my favorites. I got to go see it for my birthday when it first came out (aging myself but didn't say which birthday). I'm the only girl and youngest of 6 kids, it was just Mama, Daddy and me. We rarely even got to go to regular movies, just all 8 of us piled in the car and went to drive ins, so getting to go just the three of us was a real treat. We even went out to eat afterwards. I loved it so much I got my hair cut just like Julie Andrews after I saw it. I do own the DVD and do watch it a lot. I have a record made by the real family and my son gave me a SOM album last year for my birthday. I don't own a record player any more but love album covers.

Barbra Streisand may not have been responsible for My Favorite Things becoming a "Christmas Song." Julie Andrews herself might be the culprit.

I was reading about TSOM of imdb and one trivia posting said Julie sang My Favorite Things live on the Gary Moore show right before Christmas in 1961, before the movie was made. She got it from the Broadway show. The rest of his show that night was holiday themed.

Granted, anybody could post a "fact" on that site, so take it for what it's worth.

No, not a Christmas movie. I could watch it any time of the year. A nice family wholesome movie is always welcome.

We'd probably be hard-pressed to name a movie based on historical events that isn't historically 'adjusted' or changed by the film makers in the past 75 years! Some more than others.
I don't think the SOM takes as many liberties as Braveheart. The only movies that may be closest to the real events are the 60s movie The Longest Day (based on a non-fiction book about D-Day) & Ron Howard's Apollo 13.

Tora! Tora! Tora! about the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor is pretty accurate too.
