I'm sure many of you have seen the commercial/ad floating around (I think it is for Secret deoderant or something) that says "Scent is the strongest sense tied to memory." I never thought about it before I saw the commercial, but it does seem very true- especially at Disney World of course!! For me and my DBF, there is something very distinctive about the smell when you first walk into the Grand Floridian that makes us feel like "Wow we are finally in Disney World." Even when we don't stay there we have to do the "walk in." Ok, maybe we are freaks :rotfl:

There's also something about walking through the Main Street bakery...I know that all bakeries smell similar, but there's just something about that magical Disney bakery!

Thoughts from anyone else- it can't just be us......right?!? :confused3

I agree!! The Polynesian has the "we're finally here smell" to me!

I also love the smell of popcorn, Main St. Bakery, and turkey legs!

But the smell that seals the deal for me that Im finally 'home' is the Roman scene from Spaceship Earth!

That bakery pipes it's smell out onto Main Street through a vent. During the Keys to the Kingdom tour they showed us not only the vent, but also the pump down in the utilidors for it. They say they get a lot of people that walk by to come in their store just because of that smell :)

A lot of the places at Disney pump smells that match in like the bakery- this is the reason they can be a bit stronger than elsewhere.

When my wife wears her Liala perfume from the Norway pavillion EPCOT.
(OK, sometimes I just open the bottle and sniff it for the Disney rush, but don't tell her, she'd think I'm wierd)

This is something I hadn't thought about before. Like others the Main Street Bakery has a very memorable smell. For me though the smell of the water and various smells drifting over from the Boardwalk while I'm standing by Crescent Lake behind the Beach Club resort tells me that we are back where we belong!

I definetly agree on the Poly smell. I think that heavenly scent is imbedded in my brain. One trip my cousin & I went around long house to long house (we were in our early teens) & smelled each one (as well as the GCH).

The a/c smell in the rides, more so Space Mountain.

A not so lovely smell is the scent of Splash Mountain, it smells mildewy from time to time.

The boats (OK it is just diesel & I smell it at home too but if I close my eyes I pretend I am swimming in the pool at the Poly).

The two trading posts at Fort Wilderness, that smell always makes me happy

I know...even the old Disney Stores had the same scent as the world. (not so much anymore). Isn't it strange...? We always wondered what the heck they sprayed in there. Anyone know????

I love the smell of Disney (of course not when you are standing in line behind someone who hasn't showered). :rotfl2:

Walking into the lobby of CSR, the strong chlorine smell from the fountain and especially walking down Main Street.

I love the musty smell of POTC too!!

All but one of our WDW trips have come in the dead of winter (Jan 1 - 10) or in the first week in March at the tail end of a miserable Pa winter. For us, it's the blast of hot, humid Orlando air as we de-plane at MCO with the unmistakable smell of live vegatation that screams 'Disney!'. At home, the seasons slide into each other without sudden notice, when we're on a Disney vacation we're yanked from one extreme climate to another with all the scents of live flowers and palm trees.

Us tooll! Our last trip took us from a cool spring day here in PA to a HOT, HUMID night in Orlando. Getting off that plane and stepping into the humidity is the BEST feeling!!!!!

I just asked my boys and they said that whenever they smell a skunk here, it reminds them of JITY with Figment. Boys.

I read somewhere that DISNEY was one of the first inventors of something called "smellivision" in which they try to appeal to all 5 of your senses.
They pump certain scents into the air at various places for this very reason. POP CENTURY has a certain scent in the lobby that I LOVE!
I just love this place! Can they tone it down a bit so I won't be so darn addicted? Now I've never been a drug user but I would imagine that they are pumping something as addictive as crack/cocaine into the air. I can't get enough of this place. LOL!
