The sleeper couches, how comforable are they?

So purchasing a mattress topper will probably be the way to go.

That's what I'm planning next September. I heard that you can request one from Mousekeeping, but if they don't have any available I'll have to see what Walmart has.

OK, we are kind of "experts" at the pull out beds in the land of the mouse. We typically go with both of our daughters. One has a husband and 2 sons and they take one bedroom, our disabled daughter takes one and we wind up with the pullout. I am well over 6 foot and I last saw 200 lbs when playing football in high school and 70 is right around the corner.
Our home resort is GF and their pull out is excellent. BLT and HH are also excellent. BWV, AKL, OKW and Beach Club are comfortable. The only one we disliked was Saratoga. It was 5 years ago so maybe they have upgraded.

how comfortable would it be for an adult woman and a 5 yo. AKL?

Not sure which side of AK, but I mentioned Kidani since we were there this weekend. I won’t sleep on the pullout here because it was horrible. So this weekend my adult daughter and her husband slept on it. My daughter said her arms kept going numb. She said it was so hard.

Ok, so just how comfortable are the sleeper couches that are in the DVC units? Are there some resorts that they are more comfortable than others? Any that are just unbearable to sleep on?
I just returned from Boardwalk Villas. Nicely refurbished corner 1 bedroom, tons of space. Sleeper sofa not comfortable at all, like sleeping on a board. I requested a mattress topper and they brought me one of those egg crate sponge things. Didn't help, in the end I had to wedge a pillow under my hip and another by my shoulder. I'm not a small person, they might work better for someone more lightweight than me.

This is really discouraging info, but exactly what I needed to hear.

I think the sleeper sofas at BLT are very comfortable! At Boardwalk they were not comfortable, so I think it does depend on the resort!

It's a convertible sofa. In my humble opinion, the writing is on the wall. They're fine for kids. An adult with high tolerance for discomfort--and no history of back problems--would probably be fine. But anyone who has reasons to worry about their comfort level is probably going to be displeased.

It's not a Sealy Posturepedic. It's a 3-4" foam mattress which has been folded and unfolded hundreds of times. It might be OK for one night but consider the cumulative effect of sleeping on that sofa night-after-night, between days spent walking a dozen miles through crowded theme parks.

Safest approach is to avoid sofa beds entirely. Book a different resort, larger room, etc.

On my two trips to WDW this fall I tried the studio sleeper sofa at BCV for one night and I was perfectly comfortable, I also tried napping on the pull down bunk size bed and was comfy enough there as well.

AKV-Kidani was a different story. I slept on the sleeper sofa for a full week and it wasn't the cozy comfy bed of your dreams...that being said, it wasn't the least comfortable bed I've ever slept on either and as long as I didn't try to be in the middle of the mattress it was fine. The main issue I had was that I usually sleep with a lot of pillows (to prop myself up a bit) and there was only one flat, lumpy pillow included in the bedding pack in the closet. I requested a couple of extras and they brought them up to the room no problem! I was also so tired by bedtime that I didn't notice the comfort level so much and was asleep most nights before my head hit the pillow! As the poster above mentions, I also don't have any back problems and don't really struggle with foot/leg pain after walking all day in the parks (though I was getting over the tail end of a bout of bronchial pneumonia), but it was definitely much much harder than my pillow-top at home! My nieces (6, 10) and nephew (9) took turns on the sleeper sofa and actually fought over the sleeper chair in the living room!

So purchasing a mattress topper will probably be the way to go.

I had no problems ordering them from mousekeeping. but yes, keep Walmart/Amazon in the back pocket. I kept that in mind as a possibility.

Another option is if you have an air mattress at home that you like. You can always bring it along.

Beds in general are one of those things that are highly personal. What I like in a bed (I would like to sleep on a granite slab) you may find uncomfortable. I can't sleep in anything soft.

I find most beds at Disney to be OK. I don't think the sleeper sofas are much worse or better than the real beds. I don't think any of them have bars - like the old style hideabeds, and I think most of them have a fairly thick mattress. Obviously, however, a sleeper sofa will never have the full support of a mattress and box spring and needs enough give to fold back into the bed.

My advice for any hotel bed - bring sleeping pills. Although at Disney I find I'm so exhausted that I can usually just sleep. And I usually walk so much that the back pain disappears in the sore feet, tired legs, and "am I really carrying EVERYONE'S stuff again" shoulder pain.
