So you peaked my interest...I went to Walmart today to pick up some stuff for my afterschool class and they had the Sims 2 DVD edition sitting there on the shelf...how could i resist?

I guess I really don't need that much sleep right?

Haven't installed it yet, but will get the chance to play around with it tomorrow hopefully.

Ok, really stupid question alert. I haven't read the other 10 or so pages of this thread, but I have to ask this first...

I have the first Sims and Living Large. You know how you need the first Sims installed in your computer before you can install Living Large? And then they had all those other Sims games that I never purchased? Well, is it possible to install Sims 2 without all those other ones?

The Sims 2 is a completely different game, so you shouldn't need any of the others.

Okay were good after Ivan. House is ok. Power is on. YEAH!

I got the Sims2 monday night. I LOVE IT. cant stop playing so far.

I do have a few problems though,

- When I take pictures or video and go to the storybook, the pictures/video are just black. There is nothing. I really wanna create stories!

-You know the little squares that let you know which sim you're controlling? Mine don't show up. its just blank with the color of the sims mood. This also happens on the screen where you are making a family and setting up the relationships.

-When looking at the neighborhood, the houses I build are kinda squished. I dunno , there are no walls, its just like a little outline and then a roof flat on top of it, like something just squished the house. It doesnt look right at all. They're fine when your playing the house, just not when looking at it from the neighborhood.

- I like my houses lit up, where I can see everything. The windows seem to do nothing! GOOD LORD. the house is really really REALLY dark without lights. Unlike in the sims1 where windows were your main source. Ceiling lights are clogging up my view of the sims and wall lights are clogging up my walls! LOL. Are you guys having the same problem with windows?

-LOADING TIMES! The PC we're playing it on is pretty good. Not even a year old, Dell. But, my oh my, saving.... takes 15-20 minutes! And sometimes when I am buying stuff for the houses an item takes 1-2 minutes to load. Im sure this is just my computer, but what do you guys reccomend to fix it?

-Buying a new computer for the sims 2 within 4-6 months, what do you guys reccomend is a MUST? I want the game to run smoothly but I also don't want to go overboard you know? I don't play any other top of the line games so this is pretty much it. I dont know much about specs so please speak english LOL. (maybe even explain it to me )

ALSO! Im going to try un-installing Sims2 and re-installing with my Antivirus off. How can I save a house that I've built? I don't want to upload it to the sims2 official site exchange. Is there ANY other way? Can I save it to my hardrive? Also, can you save the family, too? THANKS

This is a great game! I rate it a 9 and with time Im sure it will be a 10 later on! Just a few little problems to get out of the way.

I'm glad to hear you're OK after Ivan's rampage. My folks in Alabama took a hit from it. Now it could reorganize into ANOTHER storm????? As if this hurricane season hasn't been bad enough, we're recycling storms? I digress....

I haven't encountered those problems, but I have read of them. There are many similar issues voiced on the Sims 2 official BBS. I don't know if Maxis has responded.

Are you running Windows XP? If so, run the Windows XP Game Advisor to see where your PC stands.

Uggh this week has been absolutely insane. I'm going to try and play this weekend.

LadyCollector, I have 2 pc's that S2 can play on. One is a monster we built ourselves, the other is a Dell I bought in January. All I did was upgrade the memory to 512 and bought the better video card and S2 plays very well on it.

I can't get over how COMPLEX the game is.. LOVE IT!

Does free will drive anyone else nuts and they run to shut it off? Or am I the only one?

I knew I should have sold their stove before they learned how to cook... sheesh. There I was watching one sim and before I know it... FIRE
Luckily they put it out before I lost any sims that I had just spent FOREVER creating!

Thankfully, the options are nearly the same as regular sims and I could find that Free Will toggle box without trouble!

Always put those smoke detectors in kitchens and with fireplaces. If you don't, your Sim will have to call the Fire Dept. After the fire is extinguished, you can tip and chat it up with the firefighter. I guess that's yet another NPC you can interact with. Too bad you can't date the Grim Reaper! LOL!

Has anyone been robbed yet? Has anyone interacted with the burglar?

I had a burgler come to my house (I sure am glad there aren't as many burglers in Sims 2 as there was in the original). I didn't make my Sims interact with him, but a copy came, and they had a fight on my front porch, but the burgler got away. The policeman said that he wouldn't get promoted because he let the burgler get away.

I gots a screenshot of Jade sleeping. She's a teen now, thank goodness. She almost got all the kids taken away by the social worker because she would NOT do her homework. I told her adopted sister to do the last of it. LOL When she grew into a teen I gave her a knowledge aspiration so now maybe she will do the work! Jade Sleeping in her room

The baby turned into a toddler too. So now we've got a boy toddler, girl child, and teen. Cool.

I've never tried having siblings do each other's homework. I figured there would be dire consequences. So it's OK....nothing happens?

Has anyone gotten their kids into private school yet?
