I don't normally watch the simple life. I was flipping and stopped on it.

The 6 year old little girl in the pageant ones. Danika I think is her name. Does anyone else think she has fake teeth? She looks like she has adult teeth. 6 year old's don't have teeth like that. In fact most don't have top teeth at all. That is part of the charm of that age. I have a 6 year old and I can not believe that parents would let their kids do all that stuff this mother is. Hanging out with Paris Hilton, just to get on T.V. :sad2:

I am so appalled that someone would do that to a child. Ick. :scared:

Anyone else know what i am talking about?

I am very familiar with pageants and it is common in "Glitz Pageants" for the young girls to use fake teeth. In "Natural Pageants" young children don't use make-up or the other stuff (fake teeth, spray tans...)

I saw another pageant show, and the kids did have fake teeth that fit over their real ones. They called them "flippers." I thought they were scary (the teeth and the fake tans). I agree, I don't know what people are thinking. If I saw Paris Hilton, I would grab DD and run the other way. She is not the role model I would choose for my DD.
DH and I have agreed that we will buy DD all the tiaras she wants, but no pageants.
I've noticed I tend to agree with you on things like this.

Wow, I can't believe that. Learn something new everyday. :scared:

Sorry but it reminds me of something I heard of once. Fake balls for dogs that were neutered and felt insecure about it. :rotfl2:  :rolleyes1

Really I know a cure for funny looking kid teeth. Growing up! (and admittedly braces for many,) but have a little patience. The adult teeth will grow in.

Oh and Thanks. :thumbsup2

Watching shows like that can be such a train wreck. You know it is terrible an you should stop, but it is so amazing you are just stunned and can't change the channel.

I saw that and Danika scared me to death with those teeth. She reminded me of "Chuckie" with the freakiness factor to the max!!:scared1: :scared1:

I actually caught that episode the other night and that girl looked scary! :scared1:

And Paris and Nicole were actually agreeing with people here about how the girls looked.

They were saying they were confused about their age because they were wearing makeup and spray tanning.

I thought it was great when P&N flipped the script and made the moms do a pageant instead--hopefully it'll make them think twice about what they are doing to their kids--especially since Danica's mom practically had a nervous breakdown about doing it!

Too funny. :rotfl: :rotfl:

The sad thing is with out the make up and all natural she is probably a cute kid. The poor girl never had a chance. :sad2: I hope she gets to be normal sometimes at home. Do you think she gets to play with playdough and finger pants? Just be a kid? I hope so.

I am addicted to My Super Sweet Sixteen. I can't stop myself. DH gives me such a hard time about it. Here are the two reasons I secretly love it:
1. It makes me feel like a really good parent.
2. It makes me really glad we are broke.

Now you all know my secret shame:guilty: .

Well flippers are also used in modeling and acting on children.
Look at your local Target Ads or maybe the more upscale ads for kids. The models wear flippers.;)

The fake teeth are called "flippers." They are used when a child is missing teeth. The types used most often in pageants were what you saw on the simple life, which cover all teeth. There is another type of flipper that is used in hollywood movies, usually a single tooth to just replace the missing one.
These girls were training for "glitz" pageants. I am sure they were only dressed up like this for the Simple Life TV show. Most girls treat glitz pageants like playing dress up. They know it is fun at the time, but also know they will be taking all the make up off and be kids. Pageants, wether natural or glitz, are often used to help kids with self confidence. The kids and moms on the Simple Life were deffinatly the extreme! Anyone wanting to go on a TV show, especially The Simple Life (not exactly the most informative show) is a bit different than the average person. I am sure the producers milked this plot for everything it had. Unfortunatly, we probably will never know wether or not these girls act like little girls at home, howevor; I truely beleive this was a bit of an act for the show and these girls are fairly normal.

OMG, I just giggled when I read this. So true! So very true! All the money and privilege in the world my kids are so much better human being then the kids on that show! They should call it, "aren't you happy you don't have too much money and feel the need to buy your kids love?" :rolleyes1

I hate to admit it, but I love "The Simple Life". I am totally addicted to it (sick, I know). However, I find Paris & Nicole's antics hysterical although I know they're prompted by the camera crew.

The heck w/what moms would let their kids attend a pageant camp w/Paris and Nicole -- what camp would want those two around as counselors?! Sure, the camp is in it for the 15 mins. of fame ... but honestly, I'm sure those girls are going to wreak more havoc than the whole stint is worth! For whatever reason, I don't see parents wanting to sign their kids up for that camp just b/c Paris and Nicole were there once upon a time.

Anyway, that Danica freaked me out w/those teeth. I am not a pageant fan (although will watch any of those documentaries they show about kiddie pageants on VH-1, Lifetime, etc.). I am obsessed w/why people would do this to their kids?!?! I find it odd that the parents (usually the mothers) insist that the kids like it ... but the whole time, the kids whine about it, don't seem to be "into it", etc.

Well, Danika paid too much for hers (or too little  ) Her's are really abnormal looking. Her teeth are all one size (not normal, even for adults) and I think they might glow in the dark.

Yeah I watched a show on pagents on vh1 where the little girls wore the "flippers" and all of that makeup and the big hair. It freaked me out.

I am not 100% sure, but just as there is a difference between stage make-up and everyday make-up, there must be a difference between modeling flippers and pageant flippers.

Hahahaha! to the glow in the dark comment! I thought they looked rather abnormal. Then, I wondered if she wasn't playing w/them and pushing them out to make them stick out more. Anyway, they looked like sloppy work by the person who made them ... like they gave her the adult set of choppers instead of the kiddie set!

We just watched the tivo of that show and that little girl, i'm sorry, is skeery! My girls did some natural pageants when they were younger so I saw alot of "stuff" in the glitzy pageants and I was like no way uh uh ain't ever gonna happen. Once the girls got old enough that the glitz and fake teeth and face full of makeup was what took to win, we stopped pagents.

I saw one episode of it...and the poor little girl looked like a cross between a Barbie, an Oompa Loompa, and Chuckie! (And I'm not sure if it's the scary Chuckie doll or Chuckie from Rugrats...the teeth are scary!)

I feel soooo bad for those poor little girls that aren't allowed to climb trees or whatev because they might get a scratch before a pageant!

Jeez...let them eat dirt, cut their own hair, cover themselves with glue and glitter (maybe that was just me....)....pageant girls have no chance...it's sad...
