Hey Hollywood, I have an idea! Stop thinking fat woman can only find fat men.

Just once I would like a show that shows an obese woman with a totally hot husband! Kind of like the reverse of King of Queens. Fat Doug had hot Carrie.

Oh yeah, and I have been to a few OA meetings and EVERY PERSON in the room is NOT obese.

Thank you.

I'm just happy to see a realistic couple. DH and I are both chubby. neither of us are as big as Mike, or Molly, but it is nice to see some folks with the same issues we go through and it's nice to see them not being made fun of all the time. They're just regular people, and it is so refreshing.

I do understand what you're saying though.

I don't get the controversy. I think it is artificial to get people to watch the show to be honest.

I watched Tyler Perry's shows and no one says anything about them?

"Meet the Brown's" and "House of Paine" and no one says anything about those shows.:confused3

I was shopping last night and I saw a petite cute blonde with this huge man and they were with their kids. My one neighbor is cute and tiny and her husband is large. I do have to say that these two examples might not be the norm because both men are very attractive for their size.

I enjoy the show. And while I think Mike and Molly are interesting, I find the sister to be hysterical. She's my favorite character on the show.

I like the show and I don't find the fact that they are both overweight to be troubling due to their meeting in an OA meeting. Yeah, I get that OA meetings have skinny people too, because it works-right? I struggle with weight and I'm just glad that there is another couple on. I've missed Dan and Roseanne.

I like the show, and enjoy watching it.

I don't think it's trying to send a message that a heavy woman can only attract a heavy man. I think it's just about an average, ordinary couple.

The Roseanne show was about a couple who were both overweigh, and it was hugely successful.

Hollywood's perception on what is overweight is so whacked anymore I'm just glad they picked out two actors that are actually overweight.I could see them trying to pass off a couple of size 8's as big people.

The sister (and the mom) make that show! Hilarious. OP - its a show, I don't think they are trying to send any messages, honestly I don't read that much into it.

There have been studies that show that - on average - people tend to gravitate toward people of a similar level of attractiveness, with similar lifestyles.

I thought the whole point of Mike and Molly is that they have a lot in common - that's what attracts lots of people to each other, after all.

You mean like Ugly Betty? That show bothered me. She was so NOT ugly! :confused3

I'm a big fan of just about anything Chuck Lorre is involved with; I don't think any other comedy writer does witty inter-character banter, better.

I think they actually strike the right balance on the show; they aren't outright making fun of their size, but they are both aware that being as large as they are isn't good for them.

Personally, I think Swoosie Kurtz makes the show, though....

I don't watch either of those shows regularly but have seen ads for them....but for some bizarre reason, the standards seem to be different for black people, especially black women when it comes to television. Think about American Idol. There have been heavier black women, but I don't recall any heavy white girls on American Idol. Somehow it is ok if you are a heavy Black female, but not white. Who knows why these things are the way they are, but I have definitely noticed it.

You obviously never saw the last year of the show. Carrie was fat. Doug slimmed down at one point, then ballooned back the next year.

LOL - I heard that on "House" - 7's attract 7's ; 3's attract 3's and so on, but having money can move you up a couple of notches which is why Bill Gates looks so sexy :)

I've read and heard that too.

I feel the same way. While I like Mike & Molly, just once I would like to see the fat girl get the hot guy. It never happens.

It's a version of the theory of social capital in realationships. Your looks, your personality, your money, whatever else you have that is valued by society - those things all play into how you choose your mate. People with higher social capital typically choose those in the same "social capital bracket".

Which explains why a nerd that is a 2 in the looks department, but a 7 in intelligence and a 10 in money -- can get that woman who is a 10 in the looks, 5 in intelligence, and 4 in money ;)

I've seen lots of couples in real life who look like "Jack Spratt" couples, the only movies that come to mind though are Hairspray and the one with Ricky Lake (can't remember the name, Baby??). Not a topic that I think Hollywood will be expanding on anytime soon. They still have enough problems dealing with the topic of women being able to date men that are younger than them.

Wasn't she "fat" due to being pregnant in real life?

Yes, she was pregnant during filming of the show. I have no idea what season but I believe she had trouble losing the baby weight after the baby was born.

I can't stand Mike and Molly. I watched every week until about 2 weeks ago and I just had enough of the fat jokes. Then it appeared they just moved on to really gross/dirty jokes(the episode about her waxing is the one I am thinking about). It got old for me real quick. I still have the shows on my DVR so eventually I will watch them and hopefully I will I will like it better.

I could care less that they are large people. I just don't find the writing funny enough week after week.
