the show "Live with Kelly" ---- hmmmm....

The problem is that it may take a few MONTHS before they find the right host and the right fit. They need stars to come in for the ratings, even if they aren't going to be permanent.

I remember when Craig Kilborn left hosting The Late, Late Show, on after Letterman. It took a couple months finding a host and testing each of them out for several days.

I originally thought Michael Ian Black would have made a great host. He was always so funny & snarky on the clips on VH1's retrospectives of the different decades, like the 80's.

But, when he hosted The Late, Late Show, he just was too low energy and cerebral. When they found Craig Ferguson, they hit paydirt. :yay: But, took several weeks testing him out, before they finally made him permanent.

It will probably be the same way, with whoever Kelly ends up with.

I agree that it'll will take awhile to find the right co-host. I just think they aren't trying enough "unknowns". I also think they need to be on several times, like Kelly, because the first time is like an interview and I don't think their real personality always comes through.

Sometimes it feels like Kelly has to pull info from them, I think those ones can be crossed off the list. ;) The ones like Boomer should be fined and never asked back!

I think they really hit pay dirt with Craig Ferguson, I don't think people realize how funny he truly is. He doesn't just tell jokes, he tells stories.

I hope they find someone soon becasue she cannot carry that show, I no longer watch, just glance at it once in a while. I was never a Reeg lover, but since he is gone, I miss him :rotfl2:

I think she needs a stronger person/male next to her...so they can play off one another...not a family guy, they need someone that is quirky, handsome, a single type person, not a person that will talk about kids ( like she relates too, she is a family person...not out on the town/shows etc person...) KWIM???
The show has gone down... :rolleyes1

ITA !

I have lots of friends and family with whom I talk family. While I like that she has kids and family, its fun to hear more exciting stuff, like being out on the town with celebs ect! :rolleyes1

After watching today and yesterday with Dana Carvey, I can guess that he won't be getting an offer to take over either. Don't get me wrong, he was very good and funny, probably exactly what the show could use but there was no real chemistry between the two of them. At times it was as if he forgot she was there which was hilarious. He outshines her a bit too much so she will never go for him becoming her new co-host.

I thought Regis always outshined Kelly lol

I like Dana Carvey, but I can see how he can outshine someone...... a lot of comedians are like that.

I actually really liked Mario Lopez on Wednesday when he co-hosted with her. He has a lot of charisma and I felt as though they had a lot of chemistry together. Plus........he's very easy to look at!!!

Im so glad you all felt the same about Boomer - he was AWFUL!! Ick.

I like Mike Catherwood; he was on last year when they had radio hosts with her. He's a cute, single guy, so he brings that perspective. He's doing a radio show in LA, I think, sometimes with Dr Drew.

I also LOVE NPH, but I'm sure his schedule (plus what he gets paid on HIMYM) wouldn't make it attractive to him.

Yeah, he was the leader / host; she was the sidekick.

I hadn't watched all week, but tuned in yesterday and today only for Dana Carvey.
Yeah, and I love him! I also found myself wanting him to continue with his show, alone, away from her

I completely agree, however there is no way she will go for someone else to do that as her new co-host. :rotfl:

But is she really strong enough of a *personality* to be the lead personality? Its actually awkward, and uncomfortable watching sometimes!

:confused3

I didn't know he'd be on yesterday but knew today & made sure I watched also because I thought they were good together.

That's the thing.......I'm not sure that she's strong enough to carry the show without another strong personality. I don't want someone to "over shine" her though.

I liked that his kids are older than hers so when they talked about kids & what they do/have done he has just a touch more experience. Plus, it seems as though she's pretty strict with her kids & he seemed a little more laid back so someone like that would be a good compliment to her I think.

I mentioned this already, the real Kelly, not the character/personae she plays on "Live" is actually a lot smarter. Anyone who's seen her on "All My Children," holding her father, Adam Chandler, accountable for some misdeed, knows she can be quite strong when she has to be.

When she was hired for Live, she was smart enough to know to play softer and dumber, so Regis could be the star. Also, she needed to be a contrast to Kathie Lee.

I know a lot of people on this thread wished Regis hadn't retired, but IMO, he should have retired years ago. In the past few years, he became like the dottering, old uncle at family reunions, who everyone loves, but can never quite keep up with what everyone was talking about.

Kelly did a marvelous job covering for him with guests, when he would make obvious faux pas, ask really stupid questions, or obviously didn't know what was going in. She had to do it in a soft, "dumb" way that wouldn't seem threatening or insulting to Regis as she corrected him or filled him in on what's going on.

She was probably very relieved when she had intelligent guest hosts like Neil Patrick Harris & Anderson Cooper, who could hold their own, have done their homework on the guests and current affairs.

She could probably drop the "dumb" act now, that she's on her own. But, she still has to keep some continuity of character and familiarity with the audience, as Regis is gone and she is the only one holding the show together.

I hope when they find a co-host, who is someone she can be on EQUAL footing with, and can finally drop the dumb act and show she can be equally strong.

OMG, I loathe that guy! Never liked him and then when he made that joke about rape on the Daily 10 show about a year or so ago, followed by even more joking about it on his radio show... I will never watch anything he is on.

Really- you think she is a lot smarter and stronger than the persona that she is portraying on Live and this is because of a story line she did on a soap opera as an actress??? I do not agree.

Also with regard to saying that she intentionally set herself up to be a contrast to Kathie Lee, well IMHO she seems to be more and more like her as the years go on because of how much she talks about her kids (good, bad and embarrassing stuff) plus Kathie Lee always gushed over the celebrities just as Kelly continues to do.

She is savvy there is no doubt about it but I wouldn't say she is highly intelligent/book smart, the show is a hokey, silly entertainment show, not primetime news.

I still think that they need an older, more accomplished male co-host to take over Regis' spot, the show does have a mostly older female audience to try to keep.

Monday should be interesting since Kim Kardashian is the scheduled co-host.

I will not watch Kim Kardashian, I've never been able to listen to her for more than a minute. I sure don't want to watch Kelly gush all over her. :scared1:

I really don't want to see them get a woman co-host, I don't think Kelly plays off a woman the way she does a man.

I wonder how much control Kelly will have over who they chose for her co-host. I remember Regis saying they told him that he and Kelly had the best chemisty. It was hard to tell if he had any say, or he just went along with them.

I won't watch it with a Kardashian or sports figure on it. If they keep putting those on, I'll finally find something else to watch permanently.

So Kim K is on today while they announce the winner of the Hawaiian Dream Wedding! Hmmm That should be interesting. I admit, I will watch because she should squirm in her seat when they go over the details of what these couples have endured for love, but mostly because a local couple is a finalist and I am hoping they win but so many of the couples are very deserving.

Maybe she will grow a conscience and decide to give a wedding away to the other couples as a parting gift. :rotfl:

I don't know if it is Gillman or who that is booking and planning all the guests and events, but the show no longer is of interest to me. I'm 72 and maybe that's it.

The show has found a new low. Maybe they thought Kim would elevate it in terms of viewership, but I bet it has just the opposite effect. It'll be interesting to see the advertisers start to pull out as the ratings continue to fall.

Oh, and Kim is so well spoken! LOL NOT! Ugh! :sad2: She said:

"her and my dad" and

"me and my family"

ugh :sad2:

ETA - to clarify I was speaking of Kim, not Kelly, regarding her poor English :rolleyes1

I went to the store after bringing my DD to school so I am just catching up on the show.

All I can say is WOW Kelly way to suck up! Are you serious that you fought every day for the first year of your marriage to Mark or were you just trying to bond with Kim by saying that???

Also Kelly why the constant looking over to Gelman for reassurance???

One good thing is that Eileen and Kevin won the contest, I am so happy for them!

It was interesting when Kelly mentioned that this is the second time around for each of them at love since their first spouses both passed away. I wonder if Kim was thinking.. "will I get a 17th chance at love???" She has been around the block a few times. ;)
