The Scariest Movie You've Ever Seen...

On Halloween, me and my buddy got into talking about scary movies. I'd tell him what I thought was scary, but he'd think very much otherwise. My top scariest movies don't agree with him AT ALL! His movies, though, I'd either never seen or thought were stupid. My scary movies list agrees a little more with Bravo and EW Scary Movie Moments (you know, the oldies) but my friend likes the newer ones.

What movies have you seen that scared the bejesus out of you? Mine:

The Shining...messed me up for a long time, and now after just getting over
and watching it on TV. I'm an idiot. At least TV cuts some of
the most dangerous parts out.
Halloween (old)
Amityville Horror (old, even though it sucks to most people, I know)
Dead Silence
The Exorcist

Hmmm...mine were The Exorcist, Friday the 13th (I think it was more the music than the movie being scary) and Amityville Horror.

Wow. Friday the 13th is my least favorite horror movie, not because it wasn't scary, but because it treats itself as a very scary movie just because it has a ton of gore in it. I hate when people treat blood and gore like they're scares:headache:

My picks:

The Exorcist
The Omen
The Shining
Event Horizon
The Thing (John Carpenter version)
Alien
Halloween

This really dates me, but to me the scariest movie I ever saw was "Wait Until Dark" with Audrey Hepburn and Richard Crenna. There was no blood and guts or anything like that, just a nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat thriller.

Personally, I laughed through the Exorcist.

The scariest movie I have EVER seen is Strangeland. OMG, I had nightmares and had to sleep with the door open and light on!

Cujo.........yeah I can't look at St. Bernards anymore without seeing that dog covered in blood.....LOL:confused3

I forgot about that one probably b/c I couldn't watch it all the way through I guess b/c I haven't seen it on in so long and IT would come on tv every year.

Am I really the first to suggest that Freddie Kruger is the most horrifying scary movie icon ever? Nightmare on Elm Street has my vote.

For me it Final Destination 3. Then there was this one tv show that my mom was watching one day when I came home from school back in the 70's. It was some type of cop show. When the crimes happened there was not any of the typical something is gonna happen music to prepare you. I still remember hiding under my blanket that I took off of my bed.

It might not be the scariest but it is my favorite

Halloween- the very 1st one

Bravo just showed their choices for scariest movies and Jaws was number 1. I don't know what my choice for scariest is, but I don't think it would be Jaws.

Stephen Kings IT

I'll second that one. I usually really enjoy King's stories, and don't find them especially frightening... but "IT" genuinely scared me! I watch the mini-series the first time it aired on TV, and haven't been able to bring myself to watch it again. Not sure what it was about that movie, as I'm not creeped out by clowns in general. Maybe it was because of the way the kids were involved?

The Ring is the creepiest and last horror movie I have seen. Freaked me out for a long time at night.

Plus it doesn't help that DD will sometimes get up at night & will silently appear next to me. There have been a few times I've screamed & we've scared each other! :rotfl: I tell her if she's getting up late at night, she better learn to walk a little louder!

The Shining- scariest movie ever. Minimal special effects, no CGI, and Jack Nicholson- what a combination!

Whoever said Nightmare on Elm Street, you're right, I forgot about that one!

Nightmare on Elm Street, aside from the blood and gore (that blood fountain in bed is hilarious) the movie was scary because the killings are so bizzare and yet believable because they're 'dreams'. Hard to sleep after that one because I was afraid that Freddy would get me.
(Shining and Halloween still the scariest. Needed someone in the house with me for a long time after watching them!:rotfl: )

Cape Fear with Robert DeNiro (and the original with Robert Mitchum). DeNiro was terrifying as someone that actually COULD be in your life if you were very unlucky or crossed the wrong guy - no hockey masks or random serial killers- this is a guy who wants revenge. The end of the DeNiro version is a bit of a letdown, but it is a very fine and very creepy performance by DeNiro. I was checking my closets and looking under my car for months after I saw this movie!

I did love The Shining too, but it has already been mentioned.
