Trying to plan a little getaway. Has anyone tried The Sagamore yet? Activities for kids? Boring for adults? (well, I need action, used to WDW :) Comments?

I've been there Memorial Day weekend 4 years ago. It is beautiful ! However, this is NOT a place for children, in fact it is NOT KID friendly ! There are signs in the dinning room telling parents that they are responsible for their children.

This place is an Adult Spa. It offfers nothing for kids. It has work out and massage rooms, tennis evening boat excursions on Lake George etc. The town of Lake George is a bit on the tacky side, with T-Shirt Parlors and Nick-Nack Shops, BUT we were able to get some good food there at a resonable price. If you are looking for 5 star dinning, stick with the Sagamore, it can't be beat, it is truely first class and top rate.

Keep in mind their target patron is honeymooners and the ultra rich, who are looking for a quiet getaway and want to be pampered. Jacket and tie are required for dinning, and NO Dinem in the lobby or lounge areas. There are signs all over saying proper dress is required.

It is a far cry from the Hoop-Dee-Doo Review.

Now, there are plenty of motels and cabins in the area available for rent, along with a marinas where you can rent a boat for a ride with the kids. I would suggest one of these places for the family stay, and reserve the Sagamore for you and your wife for a special event like a second honey moon or anniversary.

The Sagamore is a 4 star, upper crust, resort. The resort itself is not a kid type place though. However, Lake George Village is a short drive south from Bolton Landing. We stayed there on a company paid trip a couple of years ago. Very nice resort, especially if you stay in the condo type rooms.:earsboy:

Plus you will have the pleasure of driving through my home county of Saratoga. If you post your schedule, we will try be on the bridge between exits 12 & 13 on I-87 to wave to you.

If you like the Lake George area and are using your points for the rooms, the Sagamore is a great place... Para Sailing, motor boating and water skiing on the Lake. Miniature Golf, a video Arcade and yes, those tacky shops. A little history at the restored Fort at the south end of the Lake in town. Great Adventure, a Six Flags type park, is a short drive. Stay in a bungalo rather than the main Hotel. I have been there with my kinds and my brother-in Law has gone for many year with his kids. The place has excellent food and the Sunday Brunch is to die for.
If your kids are still rug rats...this might not be the place for you but if they are over 5...thay will enjoy it.

Thanks for the input. Was going to use points. DD is 5 and DS is 8. DOesn't quite sound like a family fun place. Back to the member book for other ideas...

Pluto:

It is rare that I disagree strongly with posters on this board but in this case I do. We have gone to the Sagamore for Thanksgiving (Wed. thru Sun) every year for the past five. We have four kids, ages 6, 8, 12 and 13 who have always been with us there. They have a wonderful time and are treated well.

They have tons of childrens activities. Call ahead and ask about what they have planned for the period you are looking at. When we have gone, they have had gingerbread house making with the chefs for the entire familily, scavenger hunts, horseback riding at a near-by ranch, night time charades and other family games, rock climbing on an indoor wall, indoor tennis and outdoor miniature golf. They have a great indoor heated pool and of course are on Lake George. If you are going in the summer, head down to Saratoga for the best horse racing in the world. (Saratoga is also kid friendly).

The people are wonderful with kids. There is one restaurant where children under 7 are not allowed, the Trillium, but in all others they are welcome. Is the Sagamore top of the line, yes. Are they nice to kids, yes without a doubt and they make sure there is plenty for them to do. We have a problem with non kid friendly places. The Sagamore is not one of them. That is why we keep going back.

To paraphrase J.R.R. Tolkien- "Go not to the DVC Board for answers, for they shall say both yes and no."

Cat, I was interested in the Sagamore, so I did a search and found your old post on the Sagamore in Lake George. We had a few questions for you if you're still out there. I see you have 4 kids, and wondered what size rooms they offered for your family? We have 5 kids, ranging from 20 to 5. I'm not sure if the oldest will be going with us this year. We were planning on going to Lake George in August for the racing, (we go every other year). Have you stayed during racing season? In the past we would stay in Saratoga. We have heard so much about the Sagamore and wanted to give it a try. Any help you or anyone else who has stayed at the Sagamore would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We stayed for two nights on a company awards trip. We stayed in the townhouses. Very nice with a fireplace, sunken living room, full kitchen. We did not have kids at the time, so I can not help you there. We live about 45 minutes from there and the Sagamore is a top notch resort.

Hey Pluto, come on up! We reside here in Saratoga Spring just south of the SAGAMORE. I am not sure of what the Sagamore itself has to offer besides the beach for the kids but the lake is beautiful and there are many things to do "in town". They have their own golf course there also. Shopping is also just south of Bolton Landing in the south end of Lake George wherte there are outlets. My mom just stayed their with my niece for her eighteenth birthday in November and the did a spa weekend. Had to pay cash to stay. It seems Disney only gets a certain block of rooms and that isn't always guarenteed.

Wow, I started this thread 6 months ago :) Maybe this summer we'll shoot up there and try it. Although, I have NEVER been to WDW in the summer

I know - hot & busy. Crowds don't bother me thanks to the DVC.

Hi, me again. (I registered a new name, got confused w/another Disney board) there was a cruise right from the Sagamore when we stayed there. The "Morgan" I think? If not, there a lot of good cruises to chose from down at the south end of the lake.:)

The Sagamore is magnificent! I grew up in a very small town outside of Lake George with the head chef Tom Guay. He worked at the wonderful Woodstock Inn in VT as head chef there before taking this job. He comes from a family of 8 kids and loves to cook! Go. . . you won't be disappointed. Lake George and the Adirondacks offer some of the most beautiful scenery in the U.S.

I have friends & fellow DVC'ers who stayed in the TownHouses for cash. They had 3 rugrats...3, 1.5 and 3 months... plus 2 70 year olds. They went during leaf peeping season...early October and had a wonderful time.

One impression I get about Lake George is that their normal "season" ends in September so there may be more activities over the summer months rather than in the winter (unless you ski).

As far as I can tell no resort offered by Disney is another Disney-like resort so entertainment is frequently going to be offsite with you getting quality accomodations for your points. I could be wrong here but it would seem like a smart business move.
