I got a prescription in November (sure feels like it has been longer) for a power wheelchair. It is getting to where I really need something to assist me. My husband and son do great, but son is not always with us and husband is asthmatic, it makes me feel bad asking for help almost all of the time. He doesn't mind, but I do. And then to think if I am out with friends, that makes me feel even worse!! There is *no* way I can push myself. It is getting to where I do not want to leave the house. Period.

I have been checking on this contraption since almost day one. We got our CPAP machines through the same company with almost no wait time. The wheelchair she was giving me (at the time) was right there in the store.
I call every 2 weeks or so to check on the process and as of today they can tell me NOTHING. I am starting to get ticked off. I have feeling they submitted it to whomever it needs to be submitted to and just let it go. It is put on the back burner. No follow ups is what I am thinking.

Last I heard it had to go through a company who determines if you actually need the chair much less if insurance will pay for it. When this all started "Christine" told me there would be *NO* problems especially due to my disability.
After my hip or knee (something) gave out at Christmas time (and I fell, which led to new problems with my hip) I called to check on this wheelchair only to be told her 2 coworkers who help her were sick. One was in the hospital, the other, his wife had strep and who knows what. WHY she needed to check with them is beyond me. This gal I talked to is the owner or manager. But she said she was working on her own and goes all over AZ to deliver stuff. Gave me a sob story.

I called today only to be told Christine is out ill and may not be in today. WTHeck man. Christine told me I was suppose to talk to you. "Coworker" tells me, oh no, I need to deal with Christine. I feel like I am going round and round here.

I wouldn't be SO mad if they would give me some straight answers. Tell me they called to check on the status and it is being held up or they need more information from me or the doctor, SOMETHING, ANYTHING. Instead, stop telling me how sick everyone in the office is (there is only 3 of them). Stop pawning it off on the sick person.

I am trying not to be so bitter, but dog gone it, I hate being dragged along with no answers.

If insurance is paying for the chair it's not an overnight process and 2 months is nothing. I know kids that wait for 8 months for their new chairs.

Really?

The way this gal talked, it would not be long at all.

My problem is they have no new information at all after telling me it is always a fairly quick process. They keep blowing me off.

My kids chairs both manual average about 3 months from order to delivery and that's because I keep on them.

My oldest daughter has friends that it takes so long they don't even remember what color they picked.

Unfortunately quick is relative to what it normally takes. It took 3 months to get my PWC and insurance was not involved.

Wow, see this is why I love the DIS boards! I can vent and get answers from ppl who have been there, done that.

I will try to be more patience. :goodvibes

It's not just kids, my friend. I have had to wait quite a long time myself.

Someone told me last night that if it goes on too long, the prescription will be null and void. I am hoping that doesn't happen to me!

The prescription is good for a year and once the insurance company has it then it's considered used.

Well then I can relax a bit! Thank you so much for your answers!

Sorry to hear that you still don't have your chair. I would definitely stay on them! I understand how tough it is to wait. Especially when you feel like you can't manage any longer without it.

We just had a similar incident with a rolling shower chair. It was supposedly back ordered. Waited about a month, called several times. This last time the guy tells my DH the boat it was on sank!!!! Puhleeze! Then we find out that insurance isn't going to cover it at all! It's not a neccesity! DH starts looking on ebay and finds the exact chair $150 cheaper. Ordered it & it was here within a week!

Good Luck!

Just agreeing with the others.
DD is getting a new power wheelchair - the evaluation was in last March or April. The final prescription was written in November (we had to figure out if she would do OK with a midwheel chair). We are still waiting to see if it will be covered or not.
When she got her last manual wheelchair, it was about 6 months from the time the prescription was written until we got it. Then it took almost a year to get the seat right.
