We booked the timeshare 12 months in advance, which happened to be 1 month before last years trip, 2 weeks in a 2 bedroom, sleeps 8 condo. This would be a very big step up for us as we have always roughed it before by staying in 1 twin bed roomed motels.
We booked from Friday the 14th July for 14 nights and TCD for flights and car hire to suit. This would save about £400 on the cost compared to going in August so we were happy bunnies.
About 3 months out we were contacted by TCD and they have decided not to fly on Fridays until later in the season, THANKS TCD.
They offer to move us to Thursday or Saturday, Thursday was Maddies last day at college, there was no way she would let us go on Thursday so Saturday 15th it is then.
We cant change the timeshare dates so we would have to find somewhere else for the last night, to cut a long story short, we decide to go back to the motel we stayed in on the first trip, just for old times sake.
We did all the things we usually do before a holiday
Ordered traveller cheques and used Travelex for the first time. I ordered them at the maximum 60 days out and I was very pleased with myself as the rate did drop and stayed down.
We went to Makro as Maddie was going on a college trip to China and wanted a large case with a built in handle that she could wheel along easily. We found a set of 5 which included 3 with wheels, the smallest being hand luggage size, and 2 holdalls that would fit over the handle when you there pulling it along. All for £29 BARGAIN!!!
We booked the dogs and cat into kennels for the day before we were due to fly.
Checked that all the cases would fit on the return trip and we decided that DBILs new car would not be able to get us all in so he would pick us up in ours.( good decision as it turned out ).
We got letters from DW and DS doctors and from our insurance company to say that their conditions were stable and our insurance company were happy to cover them. MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS, IF YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL CONDITION AS YOU MAY FIND YOU HAVE NO INSURANCE COVER IF ANYTHING RELATED GOES WRONG.
We have been doing a lot of decorating and had a bit of a sticking point, the living room and dining room are wooden floors, the living room had holes in it due to the ducts for the old hot air heating system that was in the house when we moved in 15 years ago and the dining room had been badly scratched by the dogs. Anyway how do you repair the floor and varnish the 2 rooms when still living in the house. Answer; get the builders in when you are away.
My Uncle said he could do it but I would have to get everything out of both rooms. So it was lucky we both still had the extra day of holiday booked and the pets would also be out of the way.
So the day before we are off to Florida we have to move the TV unit, 3 piece suite, 2 x bookcases , Welsh dresser, church pew ,dining room table and chairs into the kitchen, study & garage.
We had a Pizza delivered for tea as you could hardly move in the kitchen.
So that was all set. Roll on tomorrow.
