The Running Thread - 2026

Since you have a backup race lined up, why don’t you use this as a chance to experience all that a Disney marathon has to offer? Hit all the photo stops, ride all the rides, visit the bars, and goof off as much as possible? There’s several of us doing this from corral A. The more, the merrier.
Weather in March could be equally not good so it’s a gamble to bank on it as well. It’s not a good backup plan, just the best one I can come up with lol.
My cardiologist will not like the idea at all and my wife would probably enjoy a non marathon training period for a few months lol.

Attqotd: I’ll go with this one of me finishing revel bcc last year after my dns the year before due to injury.

I’ve been thinking about running it again…but I may pivot to Mid-Mountain here in town in mid August, which is now a 50k. That would leave time to recover and push for an all time PR for the half, which I found one locally-ish that is flat and at ~4000’ which counts as low elevation for me.

Been at the parks since new years so I haven't run yet but my steps are way up.

Anyway, someone pointed out a discrepancy in how the Garmin Connect App displays steps.

For me it was showing for 1Y a different total step count based on whether I viewed it as a weekly or monthly summary, in addition the months added up to the total on the monthly but the average days were off (by close to 1k steps high) on both display.

I had never had the occasion to look at my yearly summary from Garmin before I was posting in the 2025 thread.

Shoe sizing question: how big is TOO big??

Despite everything online indicating that Altra Experience Flows run TTS, my personal experience is that they run a tad short: in my usual Altra running size (which is a full size up from street shoes, 1/2 size up from daily use of their running shoes), I have about half a thumb’s width at the top, compared to a full thumb’s width in the Escalante 4 and every other shoe I own that fits well. I’ve got almost 100 miles in the pair of Flows with no toe issues, and it flexes at the right spot and arch sits where it should, so no issues with the shorter length - but the width is pinchy enough that I ordered a pair another 1/2 size up (so 1.5 sizes up from street shoes) just to see… and they’re MUCH better! Full thumb’s width from my longest toe and width is much more comfortable. I haven’t run in them yet, so I can’t say for sure, but they seem to be fine so far as flexing where my foot does and I feel no immediate arch issues. No heel slip walking around in a circle.

I’m just worried that in this size so much larger than my usual, will something creep in from being too large with some miles in them? Is there an indication that a shoe is too big I might be missing? Or is this just one of those weird flukes of running shoe sizing that I need to get past mentally and just be happy they feel good?!

I feel you! I tried a shoe that is two sizes more than my "street shoe" size and they are now my favorite long distance shoe. I am bringing them for wearing to the upcoming marathon. But since they feel so good, I've decided that I don't care what size.

Answer to the picture QOTD, while I have a few that makes it hard to pick, I'll go with something light-hearted and fun (not me dying at the finish line of other races where I'm looking like death). DH and I at princess HM last year (2025).

CHEERS to 2026!! 🥂
