The Running Thread --2025

ATTQOTD: So many spreadsheets! I use the Runna app for my training plan creation but transfer all the training runs into my excel spreadsheet. This way I can see well in advance how I may need to shift runs around due to vacation or holiday and can start the shift on a week that make sense with training load.

While DH is a wizard with a spreadsheet, I most assuredly am NOT. I've tried lots of different ways to track things and I've found that my ADHD really requires reminders and alarms. So I put all my workouts into my home calendar, which alerts me each morning to what's up. I also put my workouts as events in my work calendar when I'm likely to have the time to DO the workout so that I don't get busy and forget or blow it off.

When I'm in full blown training, I also build all my workouts in Garmin and calendar them there so that they are on my watch. When I go to start the workout that day, it automatically knows what I'm doing and guides me through it. I may still skip a workout or run if things get crazy, but it's almost never because I forgot about it!

I don't do a ton of analysis as I train to finish, avoid injury and ease recovery rather than getting faster, but pretty much all my data is in Garmin if I feel the need to dig.

ATTQOTD:
I use spreadsheets inasmuch as I have a google sheets template that is a calendar and then I make training plans on said calendar. (And then generally execute them poorly.) I don't keep track of PRs, mileage, or paces outside of whatever the garmin or strava apps track. In fact, I couldn't tell you what my PRs are for any of my race distances, because I know my first marathon was my fastest, but the mileage on garmin came in about 0.06 short of 26.2, so it didn't "count" as a marathon. They're just numbers.

For marathon training, I printed out a blank calendar and wrote the workouts there and put it on the fridge. That way my husband could see when I had long runs, etc. It also gave me incentive to cross out each workout. :D For analysis I just use the Garmin app. I'm not very good with spreadsheets and analysis. :P

Its the end of the month and a Friday, so lets make todays question a easy one. QOTD: Whats your monthly mileage total and what are your weekend plans looking like?

ATTQOTD: Per Garmin, I ran 137.6 mile in February. Tomorrow I have 14 miles to do with the last 4 at goal HMRP. After my run I will hit up the farmers market and then head home. I need to buy some new jeans and after doing that its food prep time. Cooking tacos and lasagna for dinners and orange chicken for lunches. Most likely will fire up the pizza oven to cook some of the meals in. Should be a beautiful weekend for some outdoors time cooking and watching college baseball. Oh, and its the last weekend of Mardi Gras. If yall find your self in NOLA, good luck and have fun!

ATTQOTD:

mileage? LOL.

I've got roughly 56.5 hours of refereeing for February. And I'm pretty sure my shoes are used up, even though they look pretty dang new. Both DH and I each racked up about 100 games this season, and I've got a lot of aches and pains in the legs. Fortunately, my part of the season is over, and now I can return to "real" running and work in some lifting.

ATTQOTD: unless I get off my butt and run today, my monthly mileage for February is 0.0. I’ve lost my motivation. I’m hoping I’ll find it on Sunday so I can get some running done before Springtime Surprise
Post-Dopey let-down is a real thing. (Or just generally, post big-event that took up a lot of your energy let-down.) Add it to northern winter weather and possibly a sprinkle of seasonal depression (this is what happened to me after my first Dopey) and it's easy to lose your motivation, because "how can I ever do anything this awesome again?" sits squarely in the front of your brain.

It is OK to take the month off. It's ok to take several months off!

ATTQOTD: After making it through the cold snap where it was too cold to run, February ended with 67.01 miles for me. Happy with that after an abysmal December and January. As for the weekend, my DH is coming home after 2 weeks away for work so having a date with him is going to be amazing ❤️

ATTQOTD: Mileage? Nothing. Weekend plans? None. I'm still shut down with the inflamed hamstring from Marathon Weekend. If I go for a walk of 2+ miles, it re-aggravates, so running is right out. It's starting to show some signs of settling, so fingers crossed I can get back to it soon.

ATTQOTD:

February - 35 Miles

That might be my lowest monthly total ever. I am seriously lacking motivation and sick of winter. I am signed up to run the Springtime 10 Miler, but we've decided not to do a spring Disney trip and instead do a big overseas trip this summer. I wish I could swing both, but it's just not feasible, so I'll have to eat that registration fee.

I have a 5 mile trail race tomorrow with a friend, that will most likely be more of a hike with trail conditions being a mix of everything (ice, snow, giant puddles, & mud).

I'm hoping when spring weather arrives, I'll find my motivation again.
