The Running Thread--2024

3.89 extremely wet miles after work this afternoon. But I couldn’t pass up a feels like temp of 66, even though I could’ve done without the wind driving the rain at a 45° (or flatter) angle

My headband says “Running is my sunshine” which seemed appropriate for a day absolutely devoid of sunshine

I've been out of town the past few days, so I'm late getting my running reported for July. It was a solid, if ungodly humid, month of running. Things have been coming along nicely, though, and some vacation days at the beginning of the month let me get my runs in earlier in the day than usual. I've got one more week of running on the current plan and then I shift to my home-brew ultra plan, which shifts some of my weekly mileage to Saturday so that I get back to back long runs in on the weekend. Here's hoping for a cooler, dryer August!

July Training Summary
Running Miles: 169.19
Running Time: 31:32:51
Average Pace: 0:11:07/mile
YTD Mileage: 1,002.33 mi

Other
Walking Miles: 14.89
Rolling 12mo Miles: 1,549.35 mi

That was a fun race!

Beatrice Chebet gets double gold for the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races. Wow!

Also, Sifan Hassan got bronze again (she also got bronze in the 5k), AND she's running the marathon on Sunday. Someone needs to get her an honorary Dopey medal!

Who do you like for the podium in the men’s marathon tomorrow? Idk what to even think, based on the variety of winners on the majors this year, and the potential challenges from the weather AND the hills.

Think I’ve got some MCL issues. 😡. Left knee hurts a bit. I can crank off a few miles but darn it! It’s very tender and if I push on the tendon maybe a slight yelp. Most miles are on the treadmill and sometimes I think the cushion/energy return might actually be worse. Had big plans TBH and GRR. Anyone have experience and/or advice?

I’m feeling like someone “out of nowhere.” Someone who’s been training on hills for years and just has that experience and strength baked in. IDK who that might be from other countries, but I feel like Conner Mantz has a decent shot for the US. Unless Kipchoge’s been secretly doing a ton of hill training, I’ve got doubts for him.

Unfortunately, my only experience with MCL pain is due to a tear that was misdiagnosed as a sprain and found a year later and now I can bend my knee laterally a lil bit
