The Running Thread--2024

We will be at the beach that week, but after some coercion, the son and I will do it virtually. I'm hoping we'll have low tide the morning of the 4th and can do it on the hard-packed sand. If not, we'll do it on the beach front road.
We are at the beach now and are training for the high humidity that we always have at Peachtree!
Sorry, I haven’t caught up on this thread, so just saw this. DH and I will be there. He’s in C, and I’m in H. I haven’t been running, though, and he’s worried about me, so he says he’s going to drop back and stay with me. I will probably have to mostly walk, with some slow running thrown in. We’d love to find you afterwards at the party.
We will look for you!

I'm in the Seattle area visiting my in-laws and when we landed yesterday it was 59 degrees and I promptly went for a run. :D I went this morning as well in 50-ish weather and it was GLORIOUS. I wore shorts and a tank top and barely broke a sweat.

Now I'm working and I'm wearing pants and a sweatshirt. I have two very different temperature gauges.

I’ve been taking time off since my half marathon in May. First time about 5 years I’ve gone zero running. I was hoping it would help some of my lingering body ailments…planter fasciitis in both feet and major hip discomfort being the big ones, but here we are 5 weeks later and it’s all the same. So not only is nothing healed I also feel very lazy 😅 Eased back into the running this week paired with restarting peloton’s Density training program. My hams and glutes are absolutely rejecting that decision 😂😂😂

Who’s running ATL Peachtree this year “with”DH and me? We are in waves F and G. Nephew and DW are running and helping walk wave L to the starting line.
Yeah, I'm still alive, haven't been on the forum in a while.

Start wave D. Not in shape. I'll run/walk. You guys will probably catch me.

Showing up early with monthly totals!
June running:
112.3 miles
11:16 avg pace

Well, I bombed my last B corral POT attempt. As I’ve shared before, one of my heart medications makes me incredibly heat intolerant and that’s what did me in. My heart rate skyrocketed and I couldn’t settle it down. Also had terrible scheduling of a dental implant placement so I was a bit undernourished as well. Oh well, at least I have a POT for C!

On a more fun note, I’ve been doing Garmin daily suggested workouts for the past month and am loving it. The variety is really great for me as well as being able to run by heart rate rather than pace. I am finally getting some proper speed work in the rotation. Planning on keeping it up!

I've also tried resting to reset my niggles and it's never worked. My somewhat consistent strength training has definitely made a difference though. Sometimes the niggles still pop up, but not near as bad and maybe if I were a tad more consistent they'd go away. Keep at the strength training! It'll pay off.

Do you have a race that you're training for? I'm thinking to try this for my next race but also a bit unsure of how well it works.

I’m going to use it for my 10 miler this fall. You need to put the race in your calendar and then it will sync up and do suggestions for that race.

FWIW I’ve read that it works well up to a half, marathon isn’t a good fit for DSW.

Is there a way to see tomorrow's suggestion? I wouldn't want to wake up in the morning unsure of what my workout would be that day, especially for budgeting time for the workout.

June 2024 Running Totals:
Activities:
16 Distance: 50.06 mi Time: 9:34:40
This included a 15k today (which is why I won't run tomorrow), and six 5ks, as well as FOUR BIRD ATTACKS!!!!! I think it's a falcon or a bird of prey. Three times I got buzzed very close to my head, another time I got a full on hit on the top of my head which caused me to scream and stop running!

Thank you friends for all the good advice about aqua jogging. I dabbled in it, but so far, TBH I'm just happy to be jumping in and playing around a bit before I lay out and read a book.

Looking forward to July: I'll be continuing with 5k training. We're also traveling to the Olympics, not to run, but this has been a dream of mine since I was 13 to attend the Summer Olympic Games, and let's just say many years have passed since I've been 13, so it's amazing to me that I'll be there. 🇫🇷

Look for us on Peachtree just south of 12th St. will be on your left side. We will have whisky.

Now that I say that I might be on 10th st. We need to avoid the confetti poppers as the pop scares whisky. Will be around piedmont and 10th on runners left side.

Good luck, heat is nuts. Hope I can catch up with @OldSlowGoofyGuy and @Disney at Heart.

I haven't followed the Garmin suggestions but I kind of like looking at what it suggests. However, I find it very annoying that it insists on suggesting long runs for Saturdays when 99% of the time, I do my LRs on Sundays - apparently it doesn't look at history for that. Anyway, when I reject that and do my planned run for Saturday and then start up a LR for Sunday, it has some silly suggestion instead.

Do you know any way to tell Garmin that LRs are for Sundays (or another day of the week)?

You can actually choose what day you want your long run on! At the bottom of the weekly schedule, go to settings, long workout is the second option. You can check Sunday for your LR day of choice.

June Totals

Running

Runs: 27
Miles: 210.60
Time: 29:44:18
Avg Pace: 8:28

YTD Miles: 1,010.82
Last 12 months miles: 2,061.04

I ended May with a bit of a sickness that caused me to miss two full weeks of running. But I ramped it back up in June to post 200+ miles for the third time in the last four months. One of my goals for this year is to run 2,000 miles and I am officially back on pace. I kept most of my runs in June at a slow/easy pace.

I am planning to do the Harrisburg (PA) Marathon in November. It will be my first non-Disney marathon after running five at WDW. DopeyBadger recently shared a training plan with me. Training starts Tuesday. Looking forward to it!

June was finally a great month for me! I did a streak with a FB group and ran or walked at least one mile every day in June.

Total- 68 miles

This is the first time I've actually completed a streak. Planning to keep it going until we leave for vacation on July 13. I'd like it continue all summer, but I'm not sure what vacation will bring. I've noticed that my HR has come down on my easy runs and walks so I think this has been great base training for me.
This has also been a dream of mine too! Hoping to make it happen for LA2028. I hope you have an amazing trip!
