The Running Thread - 2019

I looooooooove cilantro and bananas. Never thought I’d ever consider eating them together, but I came across a cilantro, lime pineapple smoothie recipe plus another for roasted bananas with chili and cilantro. I’m always tossing out fresh cilantro cuz i can’t use it all before it goes bad.

Food- it’s been awhile since I’ve made one but I’m always up for a peanut butter and pickle sandwich. Or peanut butter and marshmallow fluff if I’m leaning sweet! And since we’re going camping today I’ll add s’mores burritos which is a flour tortilla filled with peanut butter and marshmallows and chocolate chips and cooked over the fire. Not totally weird but not too common.

A s'mores burrito sounds wonderful!

I dip my fries in my frosty, too! I haven't done this in about 4 years but I would do it tomorrow if my family wanted to go eat at Wendy's. They never do though :(.

I also dip my pizza in ranch dressing. I usually wait and only do this with left over pizza and not fresh pizza.

ATTQOTD: The only thing that surprises people when I eat it once in a blue moon is a toast with Cheez Whiz and sweet pickles. Must have been years but now I feel like it...

As for Smore’s burritos, I am looking forward to open that Smore’s Oreo pack I bought.

When I was a kid, I declared that when I grew up, I would make enough money that I’d never have to eat tripe or hog’s brains with scrambled eggs again. I have accomplished that goal. So now I don’t think anything I eat is weird!

@camaker So sorry about Owen.
I don’t currently have a pet. The last two were a beautiful blue-eyed Dalmatian and a precious black and white shelter cat. We decided once they passed, not to get another. We like to travel too much.

I dip fries in a Frosty. Or ranch dressing. Haven’t tried both a Frosty and ranch dressing at the same time though. I used to open Del Taco hot sauce packets and just drink the hot sauce straight like a shot.

DH here: I have an official diagnosis from the local Ortho group: quadricep tendonitis. He feels I have done no serious damage to the knee, as seen on x-rays, and that I won't "kill your knee" with running. Recommended 10 more days of an NSAID. I can swim now, and plan on doing so tomorrow. I'm off 7/5, and proposed a run that day to him, and he felt that should be fine. I've continued to see improvement in functionality. More sore today, but he did a thorough physical exam on the area yesterday, including really pushing on some areas. Recommended a soft knee brace for the first few runs, and I went right over and purchased one from the local running store.
Until late this week in Pa, the weather has been nice. Figure I missed out on some beautiful running weather, but now I'm missing out on the hot, summer runs that cause me to shed pounds of sweat and not always feel great the rest of the day.
1 more week...

Throw cilantro and jalapeño into a glass and muddle/smush them up. Use this as the basis for a terrific margarita.

Posting early because I have an off day tomorrow and I will be traveling....

June 2019 totals...
Running: 130.6 miles
average pace 11:33
total time: 25.16 hr
This is my second-highest monthly mileage in the year+ that I've been tracking, only 3 miles lower than my highest month. I'd been thinking about doing a bonus run this week and apparently I should've done it. :) Peaking for my HM coming up on July 14.

Tennis: 32.5 hours this month, which is a high by 5 hours. The tennis vacation this week with 10 hours of clinics and semi- and private lessons helped with this. :)

Spent this week running and playing tennis in Napa as a vacation lead-in to my husband's brother's destination wedding. Can't really complain about that!

June totals
Distance: 123.6 km (76.8 mi)
Average pace: 6m14s/km (10m/mi)

June seems to have been a transition month. It is the best of 2019 so far but it doesn’t feel like I am where I should be in terms of enthusiasm and commitment factor. On a positive note, DD13 suddenly took some interest in running and in eating ceasar salads. One of many life mysteries.

Fun Friday QOTD:

When I was growing up I ate microwaved kraft singles sandwiches on white bread with Italian dressing or A1 or bacon bits or marinara or any combination of those things. Also, and this probably doesn’t need to be clarified, our microwave was a destroyed mess at all times. I also would eat noodles, rice, and sometimes mashed potatoes with A1 or barbecue sauce. When I was forced to eat vegetables? You guessed it, drown those suckers in A1.

I’m happy to say I have a pretty normal palate now and haven’t had A1 in over 10 years. There are a lot of garbage foods that I haven’t abandoned and am somewhat mortified to admit that i still eat (hello spaghettios and chicken nuggets).

Also, @roxymama is preaching the hot dog gospel.

ETA: I thought I’d add something that is decidedly not odd, but that I find unspeakably disgusting. People putting malt vinegar on fish and chips or just french fries or literally anything. It’s not just that I don’t personally like it; I can certainly deal with people enjoying food that I don’t. Malt vinegar completely permeates my nostrils and makes me feel as though I’ve slathered my own food in vomit. I can’t eat when I’m around it.

June totals: 17 mostly happy miles.

It would appear I have shed my hip issues and look forward to a July of easy, slow, short mileage. No goals-although having said that I am looking for an Oct/Nov 5-10k to provide me with some structure.

Weirdly, and of course out of nowhere, I have developed an ouchy on my right foot which I have yet to figure out. Oy. Well, I know it can't be an overuse injury!
