We interrupt our normal programming for this special message for the football fans.....................

HOW ABOUT THOSE CLEMSON TIGERS?!!!!!
One very happy daughter and family today celebrating an amazing Championship season.

Thankfully classes don't start until tomorrow.

Congrats to Clemson on a well played game last night. If nothing else, it has given the other SEC teams hope that we too can beat Bama... one day. All jokes aside, those two teams last night deserved the be there and are so much better than everyone else. We can now turn our attention to the NFL and college basketball. Also, baseball season is just around the corner too!

QOTD: Before a big race do you go out for a shakeout run a day or two before the race? If you do, how far (distance) or long (time) do you run?

ATTQOTD: I have done it in the past, but most likely wont for Sundays race. I've done it the day before for a easy 2-3 miles. I found it helped ease my mind a bit before the big day.

Congrats on a great win! I'm an Auburn fan, so I had no skin in the game but I loved the outcome. Justyn Ross is from my hometown and the entire area was so excited that he scored the final touchdown. Enjoy the celebration, it is well deserved!

ATTQOTD:
I anticipate I will get a 2ish mile leisurely run in on Thursday, and not run again until Saturday morning. My aim is outside on my lunch hour, but that is weather dependent. I also anticipate I may be so stressed out to pack and get on a plane I ditch work early with the trade off of no time to run. I am not sure what benefit a shake out run would have other than calming my nerves, and unless the shake out was 10 miles, it is not going to do that.

Trevor Lawrence was amazing.

Don’t ever say doing a full is “not much of a goal”. It will always be a big deal. Also, signing up for one—regardless of when you do it— will scare you to death anyway! I signed up for my first (at Disney) after I did my first half (also at Disney) and I was petrified. It all worked out though, and here’s hoping it will for you.

Oh, I completely agree with you. Doing a full is a HUGE goal. I meant the "registering for" part. :)

I like to go out and do a 2 mile or so run the day before a race. I'm often not able to, if I'm traveling to the race or if it's away from home, but it's what I do under ideal conditions. It loosens the legs up a bit without fatiguing them and gets them ready to go for race day.

An Auburn fan with no skin in the game? I thought being an Auburn fan automatically made you a Clemson fan for the night...

Depends on the distance of the big race. For a HM/M, I'm usually aiming for 20 minutes of a moderately slow pace the day prior. During the last 5 minutes or so, I add in some strides to reawaken the muscles and let them know, "tomorrow is race day". For a 5k/10k, I'm usually in the 50-60 min range but same pace and still with strides the day prior. For Dopey, I've found success with having my last run of the week on Monday or Tuesday and like the HM/M routine.

RIGHT?!?!?! I didn't even watch, figuring Bama was a foregone conclusion. So exciting to wake up this morning and hear they got rolled! #anyonebutBama

Yes! That was exactly my thought as a Gator - we've totally got a shot next year!

QOTD: Before a big race do you go out for a shakeout run a day or two before the race? If you do, how far (distance) or long (time) do you run?
ATTQOTD: I guess I do? My last run before race is always a short one (usually 2ish miles), 2 days out.

QOTD: After a race recovery, and before a schedule, do you follow and plan, rough guidelines or tendencies?

I'd call mine rough guidelines. I will have a general goal (lay down a base, work on speed, etc) but don't go as far as a plan with mileage and specific days laid out.

QOTD: Before a big race do you go out for a shakeout run a day or two before the race? If you do, how far (distance) or long (time) do you run?

Anything less than a half, no. For a half I like to do a 3 - 5 mile slow run around 140 bpm. For a marathon I almost always travel somewhere so my shakeout is a long walk around wherever I am.

I'll try to do an easy 1-2 miles two days before the race and then usually there's lots of walking the day before the race with the expo, etc. but otherwise resting my legs.
