The Running Thread - 2019

ATTQOTD: I try to stick to a regular routine but don’t sweat it if something pops up or I feel like doing something different exercise wise. After training for so long for Dopey I’m expecting to feel a little lost.

ATTQOTD: I usually just wing it until I get another schedule for another race. If I don't have a race I am planning for I am terrible about skipping runs.

@LSUlakes can you remove my goal from my race on Jan 12th? I was going to skip it as I haven't been running AT ALL since Thanksgiving? Well I decided to run it and I don't anticipate being able to hit that goal now, lol. I will be happy to just finish it at this point. It is my race that was rescheduled due to cold rain and guess what is in the forecast for this Saturday?? Yep, cold rain. Hopefully it will change since we are still 5 days out. If the rain will just hold off a couple of hours or end a couple of hours sooner, that would be great!

We just started our "Biggest Loser" contest at work for this year. I had my weigh in this morning and I gained 8 lbs since Thanksgiving! So now I am back up to needing to lose 15 lbs. Sigh, it is a constant teeter totter! My goal is to lose the weight by Star Wars Weekend!

ETA: I went back on Garmin Connect and looked and I last ran on Dec 11th so not as bad as I thought, lol!

ATTQOTD: I've always had something on the radar after a race, so I just jump back into a plan. I plan to enjoy next week in the parks and decide what I'm going to do next since I have nothing on the schedule. If I do Shamrock Half, then I'll make up a plan that works for me, because I still want to keep my weekly mileage up. If I decide I want to do another marathon and sign up for Shamrock Marathon, I think I'll do a reverse taper and then jump into whatever training week it is on their beginner plan, which is what I used for this marathon.

ATTQOTD: my next scheduled race is a ways off, but I have a plan (or plans) to bridge that gap and make sure I stay on target. That said I completely missed my first week of my new plan due to being at Disney. And this morning it was an icy mess so struck out there. I am going to find a way to get out there because I REALLY need to blow off some major stress.

ATTQOTD: I pretty much always have a schedule/plan and at least tentative races in the pipeline. Planning for a couple of weeks off from running after the Marathon before starting back in with a schedule.

ATTQOTD: I do better with a plan, so I pretty much always have one going on. The longest break I have taken over the last 1.5 years was this past month after my full marathon. I officially started a new plan last Thursday though and feel so much more organized.

ATTQOTD: I'm a planner. So there's almost never a time when I'm winging it. Writing the plan or figuring out the pieces to continuing to improve is half the fun for me. So once the race is over, it's time to recover, rebuild and continue to train again on some sort of systematic routine regardless of whether there's another race on the horizon. I've got 2019 tentatively mapped out dependent on me actually starting running again in mid-Feb. If not, I scrap the plan and adjust to a new plan. This is the big picture and then when each new phase starts I reevaluate the individual cycle specifics.

ATTQOTD: I try to stay consistent with the days I run but not necessarily mileage. However, this year I am going to try and have a plan for the whole year, especially since I plan to do Dopey in 2020. I think being extremely planned will be beneficial.

ATTQOTD: I’m going on 8 years of just winging it. It worked pretty well for about the first five. The last three have been really rough. I’ve always had races on my schedule to try to keep my motivation, but I’ve fallen into a pattern of being OK with just finishing. It’s been pretty self-defeating for the last few years. So my plan is to start following a schedule after (hopefully) finishing Dopey this year. I won’t have any other races on the immediate horizon, but running has never been about race/time accomplishments for me; it’s about self-confidence, health, having my clothes fit better, etc.

I’m sure I’ll schedule some races in the next year, but I want to get the important part of my journey back on track before I start scheduling them again.

ATTQOTD: I can be an overplanner and typically have running events scheduled far in advance. So I'm either in training or recovery stage for most of the year.
I 'm guilty of taking some down time for 4-6 weeks if schedule permits but it sure makes it harder to regain fitness later on.

I've also been known to "wing it" with mixed results.

ATTQOTD: I do better with a plan. I like having my spreadsheet on my fridge and and crossing out each week as they happen. I know I’m taking a full week off from running after Dopey (possibly two depending on my hip) then it’s easing back into things to run the Princess Half and hopefully a 10 mile in March.

QOTD: After a race recovery, and before a schedule, do you follow and plan, rough guidelines or tendencies?

No plan during recovery. I like the mental break of not having to get out and do something if I don't feel like it. I'll jump back into a plan as soon as I'm ready for whatever race is next.

ATTQOTD: I've tried to wing it several times between plans and 8 times out of 10 I'm emailing @DopeyBadger asking him for a mini "maintenance" plan to tack onto the start before the actual main plan. Or I go find some other non-PR race to make a plan for prior to an A race plan starting. I find when I'm plan-less I get lazy. That is of course AFTER my planned recovery time.

I'm at the end of a plan and already trying to figure out what my next race is so I can determine when to start my next plan, etc.

Drink every time I typed the word plan.

QOTD: After a race recovery, and before a schedule, do you follow and plan, rough guidelines or tendencies?
ATTQOTD: No plan. It just depends how I feel. For now, it is going to be just getting back to running my normal 3-4 times a week until I determine what races I will do in 2019 and beyond.

ATTQOTD: I usually follow rough guidelines following an A race. I keep running but no set mileage or goals. Just to keep the legs moving, after a couple of days off....

ATTQOTD: Ask me after my HM on 5/19. ::yes:: The probable answer is with another HM coming up on 10/20/19, we will wing it until late July and then begin another HM plan to culminate with the 10/20 race (Folsom Blues Breakout 13.1).

Happy 2019, DIS runners....

@LSUlakes I've never done the whole "add my races to the list" thing, but here are mine(as of today)...

3/9....Lucky Leprechaun 5k
4/27....Kentucky Derby Mini-Marathon
5/18...Horse Capital Half Marathon

My goals for this year....

-Finally reach the 100 pounds lost mark
-Two half marathons(see above)
-Register for a 2020 full(I know that's not much of a goal, but the thought of even signing up for one scares me to death until I've had a successful half)
