The Running Thread - 2019

I ran my 10K last night and had a great race! I finished in 53 minutes, 9 seconds which is faster than my goal. Hopefully that will get me a decent corral placement for Wine and Dine.

Congrats!

Based on my calculations on how runDisney has used POT recently, then I'd estimate corral B for the HM (or Challenge HM).

Sad day in our house today - our Pomeranian Pekingese cross Olly passes away in his sleep last night. He was over 16, so had a good innings, but will be missed by us.

@LSUlakes How was the daddy/daughter trip? Hope you had a blast!

It was AMAZING!!!!!! The one small downer was we got a room with only a shower and could not switch until the next day when we would be in the parks. I had already unpacked so I just delt with it. She did not hear a lot of No's from dad lol. She also picked up pin trading... collecting.

@LSUlakes I'm ready to dust off those racing shoes!

April
6 - DopeyBadger - Parkinson's Kid's 0.3 Mile Run (NG / N/A)

My daughter (Gigi) says she is nervous but extremely excited for the challenge. :car:

Happy to hear you are getting a chance to race again! Good luck

This morning I ran the Milwaukee Half Marathon. I went in with no expectations, since running has been hard and so sporadic lately. But the stars aligned, the weather was great for running, and I somehow knocked out a 10+ minute PR. I have no idea how that happened, since just a few days ago I struggled through 3 miles, but everything just felt great. I started out with paces in the mid-high 10s, and I was amazed at how the miles just continued to tick by and I stayed in that range. I think I may have to adjust my goals moving forward, because this time was something I was shooting for for later in the year. I’m just speechless and on cloud nine.

I think I am current on races... and kinda caught up with everyone! I need to get back to work, but i hope to have the race list updated in a few days! Congrats to the amazing races yall have been running!

Looks like my race for next weekend slipped through the cracks:

April 14 - camaker - Raleigh Half Marathon (sub-2:00 stretch goal)

Gigi was excited but nervous. She wanted to make sure I carried her water for her in case she got thirsty. Gigi started out the gate blazing. Starting out at an 8 min/mile pace. For a moment there it was a struggle to keep up given the workouts I had already done that morning. She didn't really let up until she fell half way through. She got up, looked at her hands, and said she was ok. So we got back to it. She slowed some in the back half because she didn't want to fall again. But she finished with a smile on her face and was happy with the experience. We're looking forward to the next race together!

In her own words:

pug:pug: :tiptoe: :worship: :crutches: :tiptoe: :hourglass :thanks: :dancer:

(She saw two pugs, she ran, she fell, she felt injured but wasn't, she ran, she finished, she got her medal and said thank you, and then celebrated the race!)

At one point you had a weight problem but now you live a healthy lifestyle and because of that your daughter’s direction in life is most likely going to be vastly different. Had you continued on the path you were on she likely would have learned those bad habits. Now she’s running races at a young age and she’s doing it with you so it is bound to leave an impression on her. I would like to think that my daughter joining cross country next year is partially influenced by me at least and it feels good to know I’m setting a good example.

And even though it was 2 years prior to her being born, it's because of her that I'm on the path I am. I knew I had to make a change for me and for her. And that decision will have an everlasting ripple across the remainder of my life and likely hers.

the trade portion seems to be lost on my kiddos as well. They do love the collecting, when I pay.

Anyone have Sidekick by Road ID? They revamped the product design from what I had previously seen - and a few people had talked about - so wondered if anyone has the new design.

I hope everyone had a great time at the Star Wars races this weekend!

@LSUlakes please remove my goal for this upcoming weekend's race. My son's soccer team got last minute games scheduled for saturday, and my pleas to keep the family run intact fell on deaf ears, so it will be just myself and my daughter, and she isn't comfortable running by herself. On top of that, I have been dealing with the flu since wednesday. I may sign up for another one at the end of the month just to try for my goal again.
